Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (officially, IIII) has been announced by Activision ahead of a 17th May community reveal event. As rumoured, the sequel is being helmed by Treyarch. This confirmation caps off a spate of leaks, including one courtside at an NBA game over the weekend. There are no other details on the title as of yet, though a near-future setting is expected.
Fascinatingly, the first-person shooter will launch on 12th October, which is early for a Call of Duty game. The series typically occupies the first week in November, and we can only conclude that Activision is trying to get out ahead of Red Dead Redemption 2 on 26th October. Which, if true, is freakin’ bonkers.

Cool I guess? Not much to say with so little information.
Will it go in direct competition with the new battlefield or is that 2019?
@gingerfrog Battlefield is due this year. So yes, it's feasible they come out around the same time.
Updated with teaser trailer.
If it really is coming earlier to avoid Red Dead Redemption 2, that's really something. Even COD doesn't want to go up against the Rockstar juggernaut.
yawns boring next
I'm interested if the single player story is about modern warfare rather than future warfare like infinity or old warfare like ww2. I hope the story isn't weird like blop 3.
Man, that logo is just cringe. Do they know how to count roman numbers?
@YeYa
Although not common it’s still a valid Roman numeral believe it or not. Even sammy was saying he has a clock with that numeral for no.4
Black ops 2/3 were terrible to me, such a shame since the original Black Ops was one of the best! Still give Cod the benefit of the doubt that it can be good again though!
Well that's disappointing.
Hope this isn't online only like WW2 , if it is won't be buying this year's game either.
It is surprisingly early but I do wonder whether that's really because of RDR2 or some other reason. In the past, CoD hasn't worried about 'big' games releasing in Oct - even those that are in direct competition (genre wise) like Battlefield.
It will be interesting to see where Treyarch go with this. I know people didn't think much to the Advanced Movement but BO3 was very successful with it and proved that Treyarch are the 'best' developers in the franchise currently. Not saying that this will use Advanced Movement but that Treyarch was successful even with that.
October could be expensive with this and RDR2...
If they do a BF in ww2 I think this game is going to suffer a bit! Not much ofc but a bit
Nice, I love the Black Ops series. I wonder if this one will be more grounded like II or more trippy and weird like I and III (yes, I play these games exclusively as single player games).
Who else just wants titanfall3!!!?

Why would it be bonkers for Activision to try and make their launch money before another Rockstar behemoth releases and dominates the charts? Makes perfect sense to me.
@Ralizah I think Sammy knows it makes business sense, it's just when the CoD franchise is so huge and each entry is the best selling game each year, for them to not be confident that they can match Red Dead 2's sales is pretty telling.
Who here thinks Activision should sell the solo campaigns for each CoD some time after release? I have no interest in the MP but the campaigns look decent at times.
@ShogunRok It's surprising that they want to go up against Red Dead. CoD has been the number one selling game every year the past few years the only year they weren't was the year GTA V released.
We have to wait until May for the actual reveal?! Booooo..!!!
@Eternallover21 Really? I think anyone would be intimidated after seeing GTA V go on to become the best-selling video game of all time. Previous games since GTA III have also posted big numbers. Seems like common sense not to directly compete with them. Even given how well CoD games tend to sell.
Yay, more of the same thing. Activision is a joke.
Activison can release this early before RDR2 all they like but if people had to choose between Black Ops 4 or RDR2 I’m willing to bet the majority would rather wait and get RDR2, otherwise it would be bonkers if someone choose CoD instead imo.
I’ll rent CoD for the campaign and play a few rounds on MP but I’m definitely going to buy RDR2 and the new BF, Activison should take a leaf out of Ubisoft’s book and just release a new CoD every 2-3 years, maybe then more people would appreciate the game more.
@MaccaMUFC Technically Activision does that already, Black Ops 3 released 3 years ago. They just have 3 studios rotating on CoD.
Spyro confirmed for November?
I need to resist the temptation to buy this game. I've all but completely kicked the CoD habit, and haven't bought one since Black Ops III. I used to buy one every year.
If it has supply drops I'm out though. I hate how they were implemented in Black Ops III; it completely ruined the game for me.
Blops 4 will be set in the wild west, they just want to beat Rockstar to the punch!
@Tasuki It’s still Call of Duty just with new campaigns and MP maps, even with 3 different studios working on it, they all play exactly the same, it’s no different to when Assassins Creed used to release every year, yeah each release was set in a different open-world location but it still played like the rest of the series, CoD has only lasted this long because it’s one of those games casual players only play all year and the fact it’s an easy pick up and play game.
