The first footage of Dark Souls Remastered running on the PlayStation 4 Pro has hit the web, and it’s looking perfectly adequate. Running in 4K at 60 frames-per-second on Sony’s supercharged system, the title’s looking tight, with improved lighting and textures pushing it above its PlayStation 3 counterpart.
To be fair, though, we have seen much better remasters in recent years; this still very much has the appearance of a last-gen game. The good news is that Bandai Namco’s not getting greedy and has priced this port appropriately, so if you’re eager to revisit the original, then it won’t break the bank. (It may still break your controller, though.)

I'll take the 60fps over anything else first and foremost, so good thing they are going that route.
And good to see there are improvements. It's certainly better than paying full price for a game with no new features added...
If wonder, just out of morbid curiosity, if the amiibo code will be in all versions of the game? You cant use it, but its there.
OK then a quick question, how does it run for those of us with BASE PS4's, not everyone upgraded you know
@FullbringIchigo 1080p, 60fps.
Switch version it is then
Dedicated servers!!! Yay!!!
I thought this was being rebuilt in the DS3 engine or was I wrong? It looks fine but maybe I was expecting a bit more. That said, 60 FPS is rather tasty.
shame their isn't more improvements but the increased player count is nice. I'll still be picking it up.
Please touch up the lava in Izaleth. Pleeease...for the sake of my eyes. The bounding demons are a dumb excuse for an enemy it I'll take them over neon lava.
$40 is priced appropriately? for a remaster port that looks last gen? lmao
If I can get good at Bloodborne, I might consider this game one day.
Hmmm, still a bit torn over this. I thought 60 FPS would be enough to swing it for the PS4 version over Switch, but watching the video I actually think I prefer the 30 FPS version. If that's the case then the Switch's portability is mighty compelling indeed. Decisions, decisions!
I am actually considering buying this, even though I never got into the PS3 version. But Bloodborne has whet my appetite for more. Which is better for those who liked Bloodborne, DS or DS3?
@Th3solution I would say the characters and enemies in Dark Souls are the most memorable. Not much filler, lots of killer. Very distinctive locations as well. I do love my Bloodborne weapons though and BB does the best PvP imo.
I never played the first Dark Souls and as a fan of the later two games I will definitely be picking this up to see where it all started, aside from Demon's Souls.
I wish I enjoyed this game as much as everyone else, but there was just about about the Dark Souls series I never loved like I did Demon's and Bloodborne. 60 FPS will be a HUGE improvement for fans of the original though. I'm not a framerate snob at all, but when precision controls are involved, there's no substitute.
@Bliquid This could also explain the lack of any real graphical improvement on the other consoles. Considering the Switch version is struggling with last gen graphics at 720p, if they pushed the other two consoles harder, the Switch version probably wouldn't even be possible (if they were going for cheap/easy port)
@NathanUC I do agree to an extent, at least about dark souls one. My favorites are still demon’s souls and blood-borne, followed by dark souls two scholar edition.
@Th3solution DS3 for sure. DS1 is going to feel molasses-slow following BB.
I'll beleive it's truly 60fps when I see Blight Town. Imo this is the best of the Souls games and shows a masterclass of designing a connected world, but From aren't known for their technical optimisation.
@GraveLordXD I loved Demon Souls most and then Bloodborne.
@GraveLordXD Yours is the more popular opinion, but DS1 is quite clunky and slow compared to any of the other games, especially with the frame rate issues it has. The connected world is impressive in the first half, but after the Archives the game doesn't offer very interesting areas. Still, even the worst soulsborne game is an A/A+.
@GraveLordXD @doctommaso @LieutenantFatman Thanks for the recommendations. Apparently there is no wrong choice as each game has its merits. Maybe I’ll just see which I can find cheaper. (Which right now would be DS3, where even a new copy of the complete edition is $30 as opposed to this which will apparently be $40) But I still have plenty of Bloodborne left for now anyways.
@GraveLordXD Sadly, I had a lot of frame rate issues in DS1, even outside of Blight-town (dropping to an astoundingly poor 3-5 fps in the DLC in spots, as one example). And the 60 fps of DS2 made combat feel much less clunky and smoother (and it was just faster overall); I do agree it had places it was "cheap" with traps and such, though.
And yeah I did find DS1 much harder, but admittedly that was partly because I spent the first 13 hours going the wrong way in the game — I didn't see the path leading toward the Undead Burg. lol So I think that tainted my experience. Nothing like getting wrecked over and over by skellies to ruin your mood.
BB I found the easiest but was still plenty challenging in places; probably about right for me.
For the record, as I think you know, I still love DS1, and yeah the shortcuts and interconnected areas are pretty amazing and add a sense of wonder you don't find in the others. That only does so much for me, but you have to give credit where it's due, and no other world is so well designed in that way. On the other hand, I liked the hub setup in Demon's Souls and BB, personally.
What are your thoughts on Shadows Die Twice? Any ideas?
@GraveLordXD Thats what i loved about them. 😁
Everyone has a different taste nothing wrong with that. 😁
@GraveLordXD Yeah, at this point, with so many sales, I generally will wait on new releases, but From games are day one no-brainers. I'm excited about Shadows Die Twice, kind of hoping it's not a Tenchu game, as many think it is. I guess we'll just have to wait and see (hopefully we'll know more this June at E3).
