Gee, wonder what this could be? Dutch developer Guerrilla Games has started a hiring spree, suggesting that its next project is decided and is about to enter full production. We wonder if it could be a sequel to the studio’s massively popular breakout hit, Horizon: Zero Dawn? The mind truly boggles.
Perhaps a more interesting discussion than whether Aloy will be making a return (spoilers: she will) is whether the open world RPG’s inevitable sequel will be a PS4 game or not. With development likely to take at least three years, the PlayStation 5 will almost certainly be out by the time that the studio’s done, thus we reckon next-gen development is about to get underway in Amsterdam.

Horizon Zero Clue what their next game will be
I wonder if we're heading to the forbidden west in the sequel now.
I know absolutely nothing about it and it's a day one for me!
If it's an Horizon sequel, I have a few requests, ahem:
Am I asking for too much?
Anyone want another Killzone? I wouldn’t mind that, but at the same time I think the series has run its course. Time for a new shooter, with a new IP!
Gotta be Horizon 2. Probably wouldn't be a launch game but would be a great early PS5 game. Wouldn't mind another Killzone either but have to wonder if the studio would consider that a step back now.
I think it will be cross-gen, true 4k and 60 fps on ps5, 1080p/dynamic 4k and 30 fps on ps4/pro.
The first game sold 7M+, there's no way sony want to release it on ps5 only in the first year.
@smelly_jr No more Killzone, thanks. Good series, but time to move on now.
@Callmegil
Horizon 2: Request overload!
Can't wait for Horizon 2, it will probably be a PS5 game.
If the same purchase works on both systems and there aren't two different versions of the same game then no one will have any issues. Sony really need to rethink the whole backwards compatibility of previous gen games, there are but so many times you can have someone buy the same game over again.
All the ps5 really need to do is just allow better graphical options, higher fps while maintaining the ps4 library of games and the already established player base.
If gamers go into the next generation while still maintaining access of all their ps4 content, both digital and physical, while not having to worry about whether they're going to buy any game on the new or old platform then there shouldn't be a real problem with the ps5.
Isn't Guerrilla Games a "two-team studio"? What is the other team doing though? Regardless exciting news. Word up, son.
@adf86 that made lol so much hahahaha
Or reboot Killzone? Guerilla is big studio so they can do 2 games.
Guerilla are working on a ps5 launch game be it a new killzone or hzd2...its definitely a ps5 launch title.
@JoeBlogs No, I want them to have a groundbreaking leap from the first title, my fam. It's not like my requests are impossible to fulfill anyway, they already have a template for it, if they want, they can hire me and I'll single-handly make these features a thing. (Being hired before graduated, sounds like bargains to me)
Horizon Zero Killzone where it Aloy travels through a wormhole and fights those cockney warmongers with a bow and arrow. Make it happen.
They should make a prequel & call it Horizon: Before The Storm
Horizon 2 would be awesome and if so can I pre-order it today?
Its possible that H:ZD2 (or whatever its called) could take less than 3yrs. They managed to build quite a sizeable expansion in 'months' and with some new Robots too. The new area was quite large - maybe a quarter of the size and with so many assets and systems already created, its possible they could make a sequel in less than 3yrs.
Not saying they will - just that it could be possible because its not an entirely 'new' project and they have a LOT of assets already from the previous game they won't need to create again. We do expect 'new' robots and a new area, but if you look at what they achieved in 'months' with the Frozen Wild, you can see what could be achieved in a few years...
there's about 300 people working at guerrilla, there's no way half the studio were sitting around working on nothing for the final 12 months of H:ZD's development, when it was mostly in bug fixing/testing/polishing. most likely something else was in pre-production. i've no doubt the studio has also begun working on H:ZD 2, which i would expect to take less time that the original. as with killzone (KZ2 took 4+ years), there's usually a lengthy initial development time working on the game engine/tech etc - which was the case with the decima engine used in Horizon. KZ3 was developed in less than 2 years, and SF just over two years (with the disadvantage of also having to port the engine to PS4).
i'd like to see a reboot of killzone - KZ2/3 were both really good, with great multiplayer. i feel sony still needs its own multiplayer shooter franchise, even if CoD sells like 15m on playstation. KZ:SF was a bit naff (both SP and multiplayer) and wouldn't like to see that as the franchise's swansong. i think it got rushed, and other than the graphics, and perhaps a couple of the larger open levels, it could have been a PS3 game with KZ3 level graphics. the game engine had a few issues too - the sprinting animations looked weird, the shooting didn't control at all like KZ2 or KZ3, the audio was a massive step down. with the decima engine, and the skills/staff they've acquired for horizon, i think they could really improve the franchise with a reboot - it worked wonders for god of war, and don't see why it couldn't work for killzone. the franchise actually had a lot of backstory/history/lore that never got told in the games.
Bet GG have the Ps5 Devs kits already after the success of HZD wouldn't pass it that it could be a new Killzone maybe branch out with another new IP
They can't only be starting work on HZD2 now, even the DLC was finished nearly a year ago. And they probably had ideas for a sequel the whole time they were making it, if nto before.
I still haven't finished it - would have but did the DLC instead - so thanks everyone for no spoilers, but even I have ideas for a sequel, or a prequel. A prequel during Operation Enduring Freedom or whatever it was called seems a natural. And however it ends, well I'm sure with her newfound knowledge she can do bigger and better things.
I'd like to think dual release, PS4 and PS5 in early 2020 - I'm all in PS5 holiday 2019 - but we'll see. It could take longer than that for them to make it, or Sony could just want it as a system seller for PS5. I would. If PS5 isn't until holiday 2020 then a PS4 release spring 2020 would be nice.
@get2sammyb No! Rage quit! How dare you cuss killzone?! Who'll take up the banner and fight the red-eyed Helghasts (throws toys outta pram)? Haha - only kidding. Yeah new IP would be cool. Horizon is pukka stuff and can't wait to see what Guerilla brings next
@Kidfried Actually you may be onto something. It would be great if Aloy began her own tribe as she takes in tribeless children and once they are fully trained they could follow her around and assist her throughout the game.
I just finished horizon zero dawn... took me a while, but I wanted to plat it 😅 and to make it last... such a great game, very confusing for the first hours, but awesome
