Final Fantasy VII Remake was only announced three years ago, but there was good news for fans at E3 2018: the game is actually in development. And chatting with Weekly Famitsu – with translations via Gematsu – director Tetsuya Nomura has revealed that development is “moving along more than expected”. They’ve finished modelling the handle of Cloud’s famous Buster Sword, then.
Those of you who have been following this project closely will know that Square Enix recently took control of the project, but it had decided on the long-awaited remake’s direction prior to making that decision. “While preserving the atmosphere of the original, the scenario will dig deeper into the characters, including members of Avalanche,” Nomura said.
See you in approximately eight years.

I'll believe it when the disc is inside my PS4...5?....6?!
lol. What was "expected" then?
Development is coming along more than expected ???
Yet they can only show art work nothing more ?? Why not a new trailer at least or something to keep fans attention ?? It's a big massive project I know it's my fav FF game of all time but even I now expect it on PS5 now.
I'm torn as to which was a better line:
"Every Cloud has a silver lining"
or
"See you in approximately eight years."
I do wish they would at least tell us if they are still planning on making this game episodic or 1 game. Though after FFXV 1 game could still take 2 full years to release and cost $120 so I guess it really doesn't matter what they say.
I've given up on ever playing this, but it's getting to the point where I wonder if even my teen sons will ever play this. Once they perfect holodeck porn nobody is going to want to play FF7R.
So it’s not a PS6 game then?
@Nakatomi_Uk "I now expect it on PS5 "
Part 1 will be on PS5, part 2 will be on PS6, then Squenix will declare bankruptcy and we'll never seen the conclusion in part 3.
Hype for this, wouldn't be surprised to see some footage at the end of the year.
I’ll be on my death bed by the time this game comes out. 😑
Man, the PS6 is going to have an awesome launch game!
@Athrum 7, guaranteed.
Kweh!
@rjejr
Nope, episode 3 will be a kickstarter and after funded Nomura will say that part 3 doesnt finish the story.
8 years... LOL!
So much for patience, eh?
@sinalefa
He probably means development is moving backwards.
Hilarious but true last sentence
Do we reckon part 1 will be on ps4?
8 years? Many a thing said in jest..
If this releases in 2021 is that so bad? 5-6 year development cycle. Could be better of course, but not the worst either.
I wonder if the ps vita version is still in development. I was hoping to make this my swan song game for the console.
I just hope Square themselves do a better job than the company they were going to outsource it to would have done. It'll be a shame if it ends up being worse than what could have been.
I have given up any hope for this project. 😂 Maybe, just maybe we will see it on PlayStation 6.
Some day...
@Octane Sloths are one of my favourite animals. On the one hand they are soo very adorable and on the other they are so flipping creepy.
FF7 is my favourite game of all time. This wait is painful.
