How do you watch the World Cup with PlayStation VR? This year, the BBC is giving you the chance to watch Russia's World Cup 2018 in virtual reality, courtesy of your PSVR headset. All 33 of the BBC's televised games can be live streamed straight into your device, but what do you need to do to set things up? We're going to show you how to watch the World Cup with PSVR in this guide.
How to Watch the World Cup with PSVR
Here are the steps you need to take to watch the World Cup with your PlayStation VR headset. Note that you will need to be in the UK to use this.
Download the BBC Sport VR - 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia App
To get the ball rolling and start watching the World Cup with PSVR, you'll need to download the BBC Sport VR - 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia app from the PlayStation Store. This is an application separate from the standard BBC Sport app, and so once the 1GB download has installed, return to this guide for the next step.
Launch the App and Turn on Your PlayStation VR Headset
Simple enough, launch the now downloaded application from the TV & Video tab on the PS4 dashboard. Then, turn on the PSVR headset when prompted.
Select a live game from the DualShock 4 UI
When it's time for a match to kick-off, select the button in the shape of a cinema ticket from the user interface attached to your DualShock 4 controller. This will automatically place you in the executive box which provides an excellent view of the entire stadium and the pitch, as well as a BBC live stream of its coverage up top.
To change the view point, again look to the UI upon the virtual DualShock 4. Select the camera button in the bottom right, and you'll be able to switch to a perspective from either end of the pitch behind the goals. If you'd like to fully immerse yourself in the action and take away the BBC live stream, press the options menu and select the button in the shape of a TV. This will leave you with just your view of the stadium, as if you were really at the game.
Will you be watching the World Cup with PSVR? Gobble down some prawn sandwiches and assume your position in the executive suite in the comments section below.

"How to Watch the World Cup with PSVR"
Step 1 - Move to the UK.
You'd think that step would be in the title, or subtitle, or first paragraph. Or somewhere in the article.
I don't have PSVR but I'm really intrigued by this. Feedback so far seems to be really positive.
I just tested it out and it's blowing my mind. I had no idea it would be as good as this.
@rjejr Just added it in. Sorry about that.
Wish I had one now 😩 ..App seller !
How’s the resolution @get2sammyb
@Lifestranding I mean it's still PSVR, so players in the distance look pixelated. But you do get a decent view.
@Savino I would guess not because BBC requires you to have a television license which you won't have unless you're in the UK.
It must be really cool. I’m watching Uruguay x Egypt right now btw, without PSVR.
@get2sammyb Thanks. I may nto have come across so harsh if we just didn't go through this with last months article where you also left that little tidbit out. Gotta learn from your mistakes.

Thanks for putting it in now though, that's a decent spot for it.
Obviously the resolution is a big drawback, but it's kind of weird as I think it's not entirely down to the PSVR headset. You can have an optional TV screen above you that's displaying the regular TV view, and that is much, much clearer.
You're sat in a virtual lounge sort of thing, with a huge opening in the wall in front of you that looks out over the pitch. It works great for the 'hospitality box' view, but feels very odd for the behind the goal views. You can't really look around you or behind you like you were able to do for the Champions League final last year. You also miss out on all the pre-game/half time punditry, but it would be so easy for them to include it on the virtual screen I mentioned above.
It's very easy to switch between the 3 views during the game. Switched to behind the goal for a corner, and it was very obvious Suarez had hit the side netting when the commentators were wondering why it had been ruled out. There was another moment where he got tackled, and they were talking about him beating himself up out of the shot, and it was cool to be able to see everything and look down on him doing just that.
Overall it's definitely worth trying if you can.
Really cool and an absolute gamechanger. The side view is defo best place ... or maybe the end your team is attacking. The big overhead screen is a nice touch. Can switch your eyes over to the behind-the-goal when your team are attacking in the pen area. VR is defo the future of sports spectating. The PSVR boxing and basketball demos on PSStore are amazing. The next gen of headsets is going to rectify the draw distance and resolution issues. 4k VR sports will be incredible.
@get2sammyb good to know it's really good. Hopefully the next world cup this will be available to all, and using PSVR2 ; )
... am I missing something ... is there any way to view score and time played?
@Mattsilverado yeah hopefully one would assume 4K PSVR 2 for viewing content better
@fluggy Hmmm. Don't think there is actually. They should add that to the little controller panel.
@Lifestranding I don't expect 4k for PSVR2, seems a little too much, but at least a 2x increase. Maybe like Vive Pro ?
Just need some decent footy now. The first two matches have been pretty zzz.
Looking forward to trying it later but doubt it would have made that limp game any better. Best part was Suarez trying to grab Hegazi's nuts near the end (of the game)
.... switched to behind the goal view for that Cavani free kick. So exciting (maybe coz the rest was so dull) ... but jumped out my seat when he hit the post the crowd roared.
That’s was great. Right behind the goal for the winner. (Pity the game weren’t great). You can turn off the big screen, and get a really good appreciation of it. I went to Euro 16... and this felt very simlair. Just being able to watch why you want. When Uruguay scores I watched the Egyptian team walking back and talking to each other. 2 things - need the time and score added somewhere, and the sound was in line with the video, and about half a second behind the live views. Did anyone get the social stuff working? I had the little guy walking about.... but that was it.
@mattsilverado. Yeah that would do. With less wires too
@Lifestranding well, I've the second iteration of PSVR and the headset itself has only one wire, but wireless is expected, yes. Same as some custom controllers for proper inputs, etc.
@Savino Sadly no, BBC player will detect your your ISP signal as coming from abroad and block the stream. BBC iPlayer also detects VPN and blocks streaming.
I'd die to watch NHL in VR. Done well of course. I gotta believe that someday I'll be able to. God, to have the (optional of course) view from the refs goofy helmet cams...I'd be down to say the least. Glad football fans seem to be digging it
@get2sammyb can i catch up on games missed and try out tonight or will i need to wait for the next game
@Rob_230 Yeah I think there's going to be highlights content, but not sure if you get the full VR experience. Those might be 360-degree video.
@get2sammyb Thanks Sammy
