Life Is Strange is big business these days, with DONTNOD’s slice of life series spawning tons of merchandise and now multiple games. In the aftermath of last year’s prequel Before the Storm, all eyes are now on the franchise’s long-awaited sequel – and publisher Square Enix seems to recognise that it has a hit on its hands.
Whereas the original season, which comprised five episodes, sold for £15.99/$19.99 at launch, its sequel will retail for £32.99/$39.99. That’s a significant increase in price, especially seeing as the new series will include the same number of episodes as the original. To be fair, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit show that the developer has seriously upped the production values, but it’s still hella cash.
Weirdly, you can already pre-order Life Is Strange 2, despite us not knowing a single thing about it. The aforementioned Captain Spirit episode will tie in to the sequel, and you can download that for free from the PlayStation Store right now. Alternatively, check out our review if you want to know more about it.

Hmmm, I'm probably gonna wait for a sale. I'm 3 episodes into the first game and enjoy it, but not enough to pay that much for it. And plus, I have several other games on my radar that take priority over this, so I can wait.
Is that money going towards actual facial animations this time?
Life is too short for me to pay 35 quid for this.
Interesting hike. I can imagine this will put off a few or at least make them delay jumping on board.
Are they cereal?
Nah I have no problem with the increase, I like to support developers who I think deserve it. Even if I buy a game second hand I will often purchase the season pass or other DLC if I have enjoyed the game.
After the fantastic first game DONTNOD deserve my support, however to be slightly contradictory I will only be buying this once all the episodes have been released. I hate when things end on a cliffhanger!
This will go on-sale in no time just like all the TellTale games. Be patient...
Annoying thing is that as this is episodic, i am just going to wait for the inevitable retail release when its all done.
I wish they wouldnt mess about and would just announce that one is coming around the same time as the last episode so that i can make my purchasing decision.
Na I'm totally fine with this. Considering the last one came out with minimal advertising, reputation and I'm sure a much lower budget compared to LiS2.
Also £32 is still a pretty cheap game. It'll likely be £20 a few months after release and at least everyone gets a free several hour long prologue in The Awesome adventures of Captain Spirit.
I received the first game on PS Plus. That's really all this franchise is worth to me.
Hopefully each episode is about an hour or two longer then. I'm not a big fan of these type of games but life is strange had it's own unique charm that I found pretty cool.
Thats so expensive it gave me a nose bleed.
I do think Captain Spirit shows a significant increase in production values already. I'm confident they're going to have been given a much bigger budget for this one, which is great.
$40 its 5 episodes right? I thinks its still pretty fair, love supporting this dev, now im supporting focus home too, their games is different to all those games ive been playing this time.
They have can have my entire paycheck, just give it to me!!
I'll pay for it, but hopefully they give us a few extra gold trophies.
@MakeLoveNotWars Yeah, the easy trophies are a bonus for an otherwise solid story and fun experience. At least that’s how the first game was.
Here’s hoping they don’t do something stupid like put in a speed run bronze trophy or some impossible collection trophy to make the platinum harder.
So dont buy it dweebs. I dislike the snark n whine about the cost. Its called a business decision. Wait for it to go on sale if you must instead of clickbait crap. You guys are better than this.
Will it be double the fun and engaging as the first one!?
@Splat Exactly. I predict a $15-$20 sale or cheaper for the complete package by BF 2019, if not sooner (BF 2018).
Actually, it just saved me $40.00 and any cheaper price I would have paid for it. They should consider the old adage, 50% of something is worth more than 100% of nothing - which is what they're getting from me.
I am okay with this revelation. To be honest, if you'd asked me how much the original Life is Strange cost I would have had no idea anyway, and I bought it.
I platinumed first game but didnt really enjoy it that much. Maybe it is just not for me...
Seems like a fair deal. I have to get the prequel first.
@RogerRoger
I actually bought the limited edition with soundtrack after getting it on digital in the sale because I loved it so much.
I think they know fans will be prepared to pay more this time (right fully so as you said) and i don't blame them if there is an improved experience.
Episode 5 of LiS did feel a bit "economical" at times though i loved it as a whole.
See you on PS Plus in 2-3 years. That's the only way I'd consider playing these kinds of games, personally.
