Shenmue III’s stumbled over $7 million in fan funding through slacker backer support, which means that the scale of the project has increased again. As per its stretch goal obligations, Ys Net will now be adding a new system named AI Battling. We’ve read the developer’s description of what it actually is a dozen times now, and we’re still not entirely sure.
Maybe you can make more sense of it: “This control system lets you automatically unleash the perfect technique in response to the opponent’s positioning and distance. R&D for this system is based on Yu Suzuki’s concept for players who are not used to fighting games or for those who want a full immersion battle experience. This battle system is highly compatible with, and will be an extension to the current battle system.”
While it’s neat that the developer’s sticking to its stretch goals, it’s clearly struggled to realise its vision for Shenmue III over the past few years, and we’re cautious of any announcements that are going to add to the scope of the project. That said, as far as we can tell this is just an addition to work it’s already doing, so let’s hope it doesn’t complicate things too much.

Good news everyone!
Sooo, it sounds like they're making the battle system have more depth, but still be accessible for newcomers and veterans alike?

? ... here’s hoping the English translation of the in game dialog is handled better than the translation of the development updates.
Yeah I don’t understand what they’re even talking about. I think it means that... Like, the game will initiate the optimum attacks and combos for you depending on your position in relation to the opponent. So it’s like an easy combat mode.
But that’s a pure guess on my part. The description makes zero sense.
Feature Creeeeeeeeeep
I actually feel like this is pretty easy to understand. It’s a mode where your attacks and stuff are done automatically. Instead of having to perform the combo, mashing the attack button will do the combo that works best for the situation. I don’t see why everyone is so confused.
Could it be contextual environmental attacks? A bit like in yakuza where depending on the environment around you and the position of the enemy, the special attack will vary.
So from the description does it mean the combat is going to be like Tekken, Absolver or Soul Calibre but in easy auto mode where you just spam one button over and over and it will do all these fancy complicated looking moves?
Here guys, I'll translate it - it's 'dev speak', a language developers use when communicating with gamers.
"Thanks for all the cash. We're going to talk about terms and mechanics nobody understands - not even us, to be honest - in order to make it seem like what we're doing is totally amazing while we're actually trying to decide how to make the damn thing work. Maybe it'll work on its own? Without human input? Who knows? And neither do we - keeps everybody on their toes!"
I'm with Jaz007. Pretty easy to understand.
It means Shenmue 3 it's getting better and better
Sounds like something similar to the Batman: Arkham games, to me. I'm just glad it's optional, as I love Shenmue's battle system.
So it's Automatic mode from Bayonetta...okay.
It means by pressing a specific button, you can close the application/eject the disc and then start up Yakuza Zero.
I read "Plays like Batman Arkham City"
Good news? It is going to take even longer to release now!
I read, so because of this good news it will take longer for the people who gave us more money to get the game. Wahoo.
Put it on Xbox One, I want the closest thing to a Dreamcast controller when I play them.
