The DualShock 4's Share button has proven to be one of PS4's most innovative and successful features, enabling players with a quick and easy way to post screenshots and videos to social media for the world to see. The ability to share our best, worst, and funniest moments while playing games is now part of modern gaming, and exacerbating this newfound social aspect is Photo Mode.
Going all the way back to inFAMOUS: Second Son, the Photo Mode has slowly become an incredibly popular addition to many major PS4 titles, particularly first party games. From DriveClub to God of War, players are able to hop out of traditional gameplay, freeze time, and use a variety of tools and filters to line up a unique image. The mode is capable of producing some incredible results that wouldn't look out of place in a professional photographer's portfolio. Of course, not everyone uses it, so we're interested to know what you lot think about it.

In any game its in, on any system, I dont use it.
If I want to convey or share something from my gameplay time it will be an actual shot representative of the event or action, not a staged shot.
I like it but most of the time i never use it. When my time is short i rather play the game itself
I like photo modes. Funny enough, I really didn't care much for taking screenshots in games until we started getting photo modes.
Horizon's is still my favorite. I spent so much time taking screenshots in that game.
I love it. In a weird way it's helped me to learn a little more about photography. It's so fun positioning your character until you can get the perfect shot.
One of my favourite "features" of the gen.
Photo mode is great, I mostly just like the ability to take screenshots though. Would like to have PS4 take screenshots faster, it's pretty slow and usually misses the exact scene I tried to capture.
I do not see the point of a photo mode.
Games are to be played ... who needs screenshots?
Love the idea of it, don't actually use it though. Don't have time!
Kratos for President.word up son
I think Photo Mode is a fantastic idea, and it's been really interesting to see it cropping up in more and more games.
Personally I don't use it all that much, but I love seeing other people's pictures. I've seen some amazing shots from DriveClub and Horizon, especially.
You know, on social media I have yet to see anyone use Splatoon or Odyssey photo modes.
Like at all.
@Neolit inFAMOUS: Second Son implemented Photo Mode before The Order: 1886 came out.
I've heard good things about Mad Max's version! Is it your favourite?
I love a good photo mode in games. It can make any amateur feel like a pro with some of the results.
I always loved the games down the years where you'd have a camera in game to take photos, like Dark Chronicle and Beyond Good and Evil.
I have no interest in it at all - couldn't care less about it. I have no desire to look at or take photo's in any game. I do love the scenery - especially with a gorgeous sunset and the way that colours the world but I still have no desire to take a Photo - rather just admire that for a few minutes, then get on with my game until I come across some other beautiful sight that makes me stop playing to admire...
I have no interest in ever looking back on Photo's, looking at other peoples photo's or the whole 'sharing' and social media 'feeds' that consoles offer either.
A nice addition for those that want it.
Although I dont see the point of updating a game with a photo mode months after release, see Far Cry 5 for instance , it does smack of companies looking to use it as a way of garnering a second wind of attention, but thats just my cynical side.
I love it. Should be a default option by now- especially in First Party titles.
It’s practically free publicity.
Best addition this gen for me absolutely love it
@dellyrascal it should be in from launch but as someone who hasn't picked up FC5 (yet) it's good to know it's there
I enjoy photography but see this as a pointless feature
I love it, as it came out I thought it was the dumbest thing possible, then I took a photo on Driveclub, then another and then I hate it when games don't have one (The Witcher 3).
Is a different way to appreciate the craftsmanship put into the games and to be honest, a different wat to play.
@ApostateMage and Fatal Frame/Project Zero!....wooooh 👻👻👻
I like photo mode in games, I like taking picture if the games has beautiful environment. It's really hard to play horizon zd because of photo mode though, I can't play the game without taking a break and taking picture of aloy and the environment, especially when it rain, when the moon is full, or taking a selfie on the river
Also where's gravity rush 2 in favourite photo mode pools, it's my number two choice after horizon.
I don't really use it. I think I've used it twice in Uncharted 4, once in Batman, and that was it. That's not to say I hate it, I actually think it's kinda cool to have, but it's just a bonus rather than something important to the game. If you like it, go for it!
I actually have a mild interest in taking photos, so you'd think I'd make use of it, but I'd rather just play the game.
I almost never use it, but it's a nice option for anyone that wants it.
It's a nice features for those who want to experiment and take their time to make a nice photo, but I rarely every use it.
Looked at for a couple of minutes when it got added to Infamous, decided it was stupid and have not looked at it since in any game .
I love them. I've got a number of albums from different games on Flickr, some from Photo Mode, some from just clicking the Share button, and I've seen some truly stunning images from other people, especially from Horizon and DriveClub.
Not for me. I use Share for bragging sometimes.
It's fine, but it's not for me. The time it takes to stage the perfect shot is ludicrous.
Oddly enough, I did love editing perfect replays in Fight Night Champion. I guess because that is reliving my favorite moments whereas Photo Mode is trying to artificially create them from nothing.
Never tried it so I have no idea what it is and how it works. But the pics I get at the end of a day in FFXV are pretty cool.
254 screenshots in Shadow of the Colossus, 446 in Horizon Zero Dawn and 486 in God of War tells you all you need to know what I think about photo mode. The Share button has been a big innovation for the PS4 and Sucker Punch enhanced it with Photo Mode.
I like to experiment with photo mode from time to time. But with Horizon I went mad with power, and spent ages on different sliders haha
The Order 1886 had a great photo mode and I took lots of snaps of an alt Victoria age! When the games are exchanged or sold I sometimes look back at the photos and think, 'Yeah that was when airship was on fire and...' It'd be pretty cool in 10 years time to compare photos of then and now. Helps me practice my photography and composition skills!
@LaNooch1978 So it’s a win-win, right?
Gamers get to take some ‘cool’ snaps & the developers get free publicity.
Everyone’s happy .
I know it's not a Playstation game, but Super Mario Odyssey has my favorite photo mode from any game by far.
Outside of Horizon I pretty much never use it.
Love it. Wish The Witcher 3 had one. My favourite was Uncharted's. Shadow of the Colossus was good too.
I use it alot to make wallpapers for my ps4, got some pretty cool ones from HZD. I think a cool feature that the ps5 could have would for it to have a built in photo mode, expand on what the share button does.
I think it's one of the nicest additions in this generation with the Share button.
With all the amazing worlds created these days I think it's a wonderful addition to help explore the massive work and effort that's been poured into them.
It's the one thing missing from Witcher 3 for me.
Most of the time I don't even acknowledge the fact the mode is there. Platinum from HZD and this is the first time I hear there was a photo mode. That said, I try to take some shots to be used as a background image every now and then. Not an important thing to me but something that is nice to have. Like others already mentioned, I found Mad max's' camera pretty good.
I love video and screen shot capture. So photo mode is a great addition. I do it mainly for my pleasure, but sharing is fun like with snapmatics in the Rockstar Social Club.
Far Cry 5 just received a photo mode. This mode can be activated during action and in missions which provides much less staged or posed images. Also FC5 is first person only so photo mode is the only way to view our character in scenes.
@ BraveBiT: I have found that the image is usally captured when i press the button even if the icon lags in being displayed. That lag is getting worse it seems with each new update. Also, taking screens from video capture may help in taking a screen right at the desired moment.
@Bonito Why cant you play and have fun sharing your favorite pics or movies. 🤔
@RogerRoger Arkham Knight has one maybe ill go back and take some Harley Quinn screens. 😁
@RogerRoger 🤔😀👍
When Photo Mode was first introduced, I was like, "this is stupid" but now, I have a lot of photos! The more animations the better imo. Oh, the Share Button is my Share Glitch/Bugs to Facebook Button.
Love PhotoMode! I must admit I spend quite a bit of time in HZD and GoW4. Can't help it, they're both beautiful games and it's awesome to see what you can capture.
@Gilvin
Oh Yeah, I agere 100%! 🙂 The Witcher sure could use a Photo mode. That being said, I like the challenge of capturing great screenshots in a game like the witcher, because it's all in game. What you see is what you get
Don't see much point with it.
Have a push square photo mode contest to see who can get the most votes.
@ApostateMage DONT FORGET ONE OF THE BEST SERIES EVER MADE FATAL FRAME!!!!!
god i miss it. BRING IT BACK TO PS WHERE IT BELONGS!
@BrettAwesome That's also true, you get the real deal. On The Witcher 3 I had some fun with gif's of the finishing moves
