Though no official confirmation has been made by SEGA, the release date for Shenmue I & II appears to now be set in stone. According to the bundle's listing on the PlayStation Store, the PS4 ports of these influential Dreamcast adventure games is 20th August in North America and 21st August in Europe.
The page also reaffirms the price of the package -- it'll cost £24.99 in the UK, but PlayStation Plus members will be able to purchase the collection for £22.49. The US PlayStation Store listing doesn't appear to be up yet, but we already know the price in the States.
Our esteemed editor Sammy Barker is a huge fan of the Shenmue series, and recommends that you play the games when they hit PS4, but also warns that they're very much a product of their time. Will you be checking out Shenmue I & II in August, and if you are, will it be for the first time? Drive your forklift down to the comments below.
Update: SEGA has released a pre-order trailer for Shenmue I & II, which we've embedded at the top of the article.

OH MY GOD IT'S SOON
That seems like a great deal!
well i already got the PHYSICAL version order (Physical over Digital any day )
but it's nice to finally have a date for it
Sooner than I expected. And at £22.49 it's cheaper than I expected. I'd've guessed £30-£35.
Definitely getting this pre-ordered. Can't wait to finally replay the first one and play Shenmue 2 for the first time.
Any backers of the Kickstarter for Shenmue 3 still waiting for the survey to be emailed? I'm getting a tiny bit worried.
Late August. It's a good thing August and September are so quiet this year. I was worried it would get buried under a ton of other releases!
While Im happy it finally got a date and I preordered immediately at ps store, not happy its coming within 1 week of Yakuza 2. What an absolute terrible time to release it. Could have released it end of July. Might buy the physical copy as well for the poster.
@KratosMD For me that's terrible, they are cannibalizing their own releases.
@LaNooch1978 The PS Store page lists a few enhancements:
"The best Shenmue experience:
Updated user interface
Choice of modern or classic controls
Japanese audio available for the first time for a global audience
Fully scalable screen resolutions"
Will probably pick this up at launch.
That’s a really good price and date.
2 weeks before DQ XI. Think I could manage that.
EDIT: Forgot about Kiwami 2!
Might struggle then 😅.
I have finished part 1 many times, part 2 I get stuck where I have to make $500 to meet that guy. Also can never remember the duck races, was that in 1 or 2?
Am I the only 1 anxious to see how the qte commands work on a ps4 controller?
Two of the greatest games ever made.
Gyaaaaaah! Internal fangirling intensifies
@hulkie It'll just be the same with new button prompts I imagine.
Arigatou gozaimasu
They said the month, but not the year lol.
I won't hold my breath
I’m pleased the date is sooner rather than later, but like I said in the other thread, that date is dangerously close to a certain friendly neighborhood web-slinger. I’m trying not to add to my backlog before the onslaught in September and October, but for the price that’s pretty good for 2 games.
Can't wait to see internet reactions to these games lol. Anyway, looking forward to the re-release!
@get2sammyb Sony probably update this for pre-order in US PSN Store today when they update new games ??
@PS4fan I'd imagine so, yes.
@get2sammyb, i hope this game cost 29.99 in US version.. They need update Little Dragons Cafe for pre-order in PSN Store too. i want pre-order that too
@Strebor_ it said August 21st 2018 on the PlayStation Store
Oh haha. Not looked there yet lol
It's a good price, much cheaper than I was expecting. I may get these eventually, but there's other games in more eager to play first.
I never played Shenmue, now it’s my chance.
Wow, that's closer than I was expecting. I'm definitely not complaining, I just gotta make sure my money's straightened away.
This and Overcooked 2 will make a great August.
