Spidey fans rejoice, for Spider-Man is ready to be shipped off to store shelves. Developer Insomniac Games confirmed the news over on Twitter, where it wrote: "We are pleased to announce that #SpiderManPS4 has GONE GOLD for its worldwide release on September 7th. Thanks to @PlayStation and @MarvelGames for their support in the creation of this original Spider-Man adventure." It also included the rather humorous image that we've embedded below.
Obviously there was little chance that Spider-Man would be delayed anyway, but this news basically rules out any changes to the current release date. For those out of the loop, Spider-Man launches exclusively for PlayStation 4 on the 7th September.

Release this digital right now!!!!
I don't get the hype for this game. But then I'm not big on superheroes, so that figures!
I'm always surprised with how many fans the likes of Spider-Man and Batman actually have, though.
Can't wait.gone gold like france team got the gold.next my pittsburgh Steelers suberbowl champions.word up son
Yayaya, September 7th gonna be amazing day for me : This game and NBA 2k19 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@playstation1995 not if they run into my Green Bay packers again. Word up son
@AFCC lol they can't do that because it is not fair for people who prefer physical version
Gone gold more than a month before launch...if vendors get their hands on this early the street date is going to be broken so many times...
@kyleforrester87 yeah I don't get it either.
It's almost like having an iconic character being handled by a passionate and talented dev whilst working with Marvel and Sony to make the game as great as it always should've been after years of Activision's abuse can make people pretty excited.
I truly don't understand.
Freeze me until September 7th, please and thank you.
Just played a couple of hours. Check back later in the week. ☺️
@Bobbytheb yup, pretty much. And Sony would shut it down just as quickly. I, for one, hope that the street date doesn't get broken. It's one of the games I (and many others) am looking forward to this year and it'd be a shame to have the game's overall story ruined by 'that' type of gamer (see PlayStation Access' Friday Feature from this past Friday)
@get2sammyb you're on!
@Turismo4GT
happy to see someone else on here having some love for rob !
@kyleforrester87
If you don't get the hype, no amount of explanation will get you there. All I can do is refer you to Rachet & Clank and Sunset Overdrive, then watch Spiderman Homecoming or read a Spiderman comicbook and maybe you will sort of get it
@LaNooch1978 Final Score: 7.5 too much webbing...
oh wait, that's right, this isn't IGN...
As you were.
Nothing has made me hate the entire month of August more in my life
@jdv95 I try never to miss a Friday Feature. But when I do, I convert the YouTube video to MP4, download it to my phone and catch up while I'm commuting on the bus
@steventonysmith Rachet and Clank was great. I wish they were doing another one of those, to be honest.
@kyleforrester87 I think they will, remember the PS4 still has some unannounced upcoming exclusives.
@LaNooch1978 @CK97 I'm sure it's good, the superhero thing just doesn't get me going unfortunately. Arkham Asylum was good, the sequels less so (although I didn't play Origins to be honest), mostly because of the more open world. Isn't Spider-Man just going to be yet another by the numbers open world game wrapped around some nice graphics and animations?
I have to be honest I haven't watched a great deal of gameplay footage.
@kyleforrester87 I doubt we’ve seen the last of Ratchet.
@get2sammyb good. His fuzzy ears are one of the best things this generation has had to offer.
@LaNooch1978 will keep an eye on it then, Sunset Overdrive is a game I haven't played yet I've heard a lot of good things about.
What are the chances that early plot and gameplay leaks to the internet for this and Shadow of the TR? I smell spoilers galore in the next 6 weeks.
@LaNooch1978 There ya go:
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/too-much-water
@LaNooch1978 it's a meme that originated from a review of a pokemon game,IGN who reviewed the game gave it a 7.8 and stated that 1 of the negatives the game has,is too much water.
@Th3solution Easy solution: if you're even remotely interested in getting those games at launch, get disappeared from the internets until the games come out. Or at least, ya know, don't be tempted to watch spoilerful videos / read spoilerific comments
@Turismo4GT Yeah, I don’t wander too terribly far from Push Square for my info. I should be safe. But sometimes curiosity gets the better of me. I’ll be careful though.
I seen Insomniac tweet that pic this morning.
It's the perfect image to accommodate the announcement of going gold.
That and it gave me a good chuckle.
I‘ve already got my pre-order in! I Can‘t wait for this!
I want to play it now..
@dark_knightmare2 hahaha. Aaron rogers is a bad mannnnnnn.playa.but the amazing killer bees. Is the best.pittsburgh Steelers 2018 Superbowl champions.word up son
I know it's a pet peeve but I wish the site would call the game by it's actual name Marvel's Spiderman instead of Spiderman PS4 which just sounds like a placeholder title
I got my pre-order Spider-Man collector's pin in the mail a couple days ago 😎
Great. Until then, I'll see if I can get my backlog down a bit.
@kyleforrester87
You are prejudging a game from a great studio who has never given a reason as to assume they are about to dump a bad product on our laps. It's a stand alone game, not tied to the MCU or any current animated show, and its a passion project by them so that's the reason for the hype
I've been a huge fan of spidey since a wee nipper. And no spidey game has come up to scratch yet. But Insomniac's version looks like it could be the first true Marvel hero blockbuster! Big hopes for future Marvel related stuff! On my buy list!
@kyleforrester87 Watch the E3 Story Trailers they released, it has an interesting story involving what appears to be the Sinister Six
@steventonysmith nothing wrong with forming an opinion in advance, but I'm nothing but open minded when it comes to my video games. I even buy games made by Ubisoft.
@steventonysmith I'll take a look. It's the whole cocky guy in a latex suit pretending to be a spider. Zipping through the city beating up hammy bad guys. Doesn't really light my fire, you know?
@kyleforrester87 then why are you here commenting if you "don't get the hype?" Smh please. No one is gonna convince you to buy, rent, or play anything.
@kyleforrester87
It's really bad descriptions of one of comics most complex characters that makes my fires stoke pretty hot. Peter Parker is not cocky, but his sudden powers thrust upon him and the fact he is super strong and agile (two qualities he didn't have before) and also a super hero saving his town and the World makes him pretty cocky when he puts the suit on.
@RoyalGuard actually people will convince me, that's why I was asking. Anything else kiddo?
@LaNooch1978 I was thinking about MGS when I wrote that and almost said I'm not interested in cocky guys in latex unless they are called Solid Snake 😂 At the end of the day though I think it's just the theme that doesn't make me bite. Take Skyrim - love it. Can't stand Fallout though. Similar games but I just don't dig the wasteland vibes.
Now that’s a great news, can’t wait for this!
I love Spider-Man and Insomniac.
Jeeze sorry everyone, this games absolutely awesome, no other thoughts or opinions allowed 😂
Enjoy your evening all.
Woooooooooooooooooooooooo!
@kyleforrester87 Imagine getting abducted by a bunch of aliens and getting strangled by some old chinese bloke, whilst you've got six-legged cats licking your feet and you're being fed pureed brussel's sprouts in their spaceship that's concealed as a Corvette C3. Now you think that's a terrible experience, until the French take over your house and you're left with nothing. You'd wish you had a PS4 and Spider-Man go to along with it. So short story; it's always good from a certain perspective. Learn to embrace that perspective and life brings you lots of joy, and less cat strangling.
@RogerRoger ok sure! But Spidey would beat Lara's butt in a fight so...
@PS4fan #toobad
😂 What is happening on this thread? Six legged cat and alien abductions? If this is what it takes to appreciate Spider-Man, then I think we’re all going to be a bit disappointed in the final product.
Looking forward to a preview. Always wanted a great Spider Man game, this must surely be it.
@kyleforrester87 kiddo? Lol naw 87 you should try being an adult yourself instead of the name calling. Besides why would a supposedly "grown" person need convincing to buy a game? Smh....
I don't get this whole super hero everything these days, and i don't even like the spidey movies..
BUT!
This game is a day one purchase for me, as i wish to support the creators, And it looks freekin' awsome!
This is gonna do for Marvel games what the Sam Raimi trilogy did for the Marvel movies.
@get2sammyb @kyleforrester87 The lack of Clank love on this site is truly staggering. Long live Clank! Ratchet would be nothing without Clank! His furry ears are too big to fit in those small pipes.
@kyleforrester87 bonding over not being big on superheroes
I still reckon this will be a good game and very important in the ps4 lifecycle...let's just leave it to others to enjoy
I've still got $30 to pay off on my collector's edition preorder. Probably do that tomorrow.
Waiting for September is gonna be tough. I've got this and a concert to go to, so it'll be awesome.
@AFCC lol i prefer digital over physical for 4 years now since 2014, i moved on to digital so i already pre-ordered Digital Deluxe Edition from Playstation Store. can't wait to play this on September 6
Soooo Tomb Raider and Eidos Montréal cop slack for going gold over a month out of release but Spidey and Insomniac get a free pass??
@bbtothe I guess the difference is that it went gold a week later and is launching a week earlier.
@get2sammyb Yeah I'm just poking fun really , I do hope you give TR a chance tho, from what we've seen the stuff their doing with climbing/transversal looks pretty neat so far (and MUCH needed IMO)
@bbtothe What's a tomb raider?
@PS_Nation a franchise written in a universe that makes somewhat sense and is not overrun with played out superheroes
@bbtothe Oh, I remember now, the series with the reboot games being not special, including low sales, and also the boring movie released this year. Thanks for reminding me, it's easy to forget about.
@PS_Nation ooooff
@DerMeister @notdead @LieutenantFatman @Splat @PS_Nation @Shepherd_Tallon @bbq_boy @crimsontadpoles @WorkingGamesFan @sketchturner @wiiware @SPGFan34 @Kyroki @steventonysmith @CK97 @PS4fan @playstation1995 @RogerRoger @AFCC So glad you guys are excited for this game. I've been a fan of Spider-Man games since I got the first PS1 game for Christmas 1999.
Everything that's been shared and discussed makes me sure this will be 100% faithful and amazing .
@PS4fan I bought most of sony 1st party games digital now, its just more convenient. Steelbook edition is nice, but unless it's a single player linear game like uncharted 4 or jrpg like persona 5, I'm more likely to buy the digital version.
I want to buy the digital deluxe too, I'm still holding hope for sony 20% discount code email though, if after launch there's no email, then I'll buy it at full price
@PS_Nation Haven't seen the new TR Movie, but it surely can't be as bad as Homecoming, that one wasn't only boring but a plain awful Spider-Man.
@kyleforrester87 I guess SM is one of easiest superheroes to identify with and that makes him popular. He also broke with a lot of the "classic comic rules" (read up Gwen Stacy for example). If the devolepers have captured some of the freedom and the characters of the original source, this will be a lot of fun, even for you
@Melistrius I don't see me
diving into the Spidey archives to see if I'll enjoy this game, but I can see me finding a new appreciation of him if I give it a go, it's happened a lot with franchises in the past. I remember hating Darksiders based on the art work alone but now I'm quite looking forward to the third one having actually played the first two.
My main worry is the theme combined with the stereotypical openworld tropes which I just find really tiresome. I can forgive it in something like Red Dead 2, coz I love the Wild West setting.
..although funnily enough I hated the Wild West setting until RDR1 😂
@kyleforrester87 You sound like a hypster. "The superhero thing just doesnt get me going" come on man... I refuse to believe you like video games but at no point in your life did you ever think "hey mind control would be cool" or " It would be neat to fly right now."
Solid snake = a super soldier cloned from one of the best soldiers who ever lived and genetically modified and who saved the world from nuclear devistation multiple times... Or a super hero...
Ratchet = a space squirrel with bad ass guns, jumping abilities and spaceships who saves the galaxy from devistation.... Or a super hero...
Geralt...Cole...Kratos...Delsin...kat... They all have been given extra powers and save a certain amount of people... Making them super heros.... I think you are being intentionally obtuse.
@kyleforrester87 I know what you mean, especially since everything these days has this open world stuff (it feels like it) and it's getting repetitive in many cases. But I guess here it is a little bit different because you are in a city, a crowded one, and swinging through it could be a lot of fun (well it better is or the whole game will be bad as you will propably do this a lot ^^)
I remember back when it released Darksiders was hyped as "Mature Zelda" and this really pulled me away from it. It took some years til I played it and I really regrettetd listening to this lines in the first place as it is something really different but a lot of fun and I can't wait for the third as well.
As for RDR... I loved the Wild West setting since forever and I really enjoyed part 1 but I have lost my faith in Rockstar somehow. I played the original GTA when it released (And to this day I love this top down view, that's why I really love Chinatown Wars and had the most fun with it within the "newer" releases) and played every other game from them. But I really hated GTA 4, couldn't even finish it because of the Main Character. And 5 was better again but still... Can't put it into words, but it just wasn't as much fun. GTA Online is just a big grind and lives and dies with the Session you're in. From the Trailers RDR2 Characters are again this super-badass-rockstar-knows-best-what-characters-are-cool-etc. and so I'm just not sure if I like it in the end. I sure hope though.
In the end though I have to say that almost every game you play has some kind of "superhero", no matter if CoD, MGS or now SM. If the game is good you will have fun, I can guarantee that
@Splints I'm not the first person to not get off on the likes of Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, and I won't be the last. If that makes me a hipster then pour me another microbrew.
@Melistrius Glad you can see where I'm coming from - like I said, I certainly won't be writing this game off, despite it apparently not ticking many (or any) of my boxes. And thanks for not biting my head off 👍🏻
@Melistrius Spider-Man Homecoming was great, you need to be really delusional to think that the new Tomb Raider is anything better. The box office was so low that will probably not have a sequel, well, good riddance.
Meanwhile, Spidey universe is looking amazing and Venom is coming soon.
@ToddlerNaruto For sure dude, can’t wait for this since it was revealed on E3. I’m a huge fan of Insomniac too, that’s why is so difficult to control my hype.
About the haters, well, everyone has a different opinion, I just don’t see the point to bring other games in an article discussing Spider-Man, but that’s normal for any Sony exclusive here, sadly. The Tomb Raider fans are really obnoxious too.
Anyway, can’t wait for this amazing game.
Crikey! There seems to be a few angry folk in here if you have a different opinion of their precious spider bloke.
@PS_Nation Well luckily box office isn't everything. Haven't seen it yet so can't comment on it but I have seen Homecoming and they really ruined Spideys Character. I mean he is even to stupid to build his own suit so he just wears an elastiv Iron Man suit. Also I think aunt May is really casted wrong and just so Tony can get a few MILF-lines. He is also missing any Spider-Senses just to get the story forward. Also the actor seems to be to stupid to drive a car so the had to CG an short drive down an entrance. And there are dozens above dozens stupid things that kills just Spider-Man. I mean the classic one, it's just for the young generation that need a weak joke every 83 seconds and some cool effects so they can talk about how cool it is. I mean Disney loves killing everything they possess for money and it's working unfortunatelly but as someone who grew up with the comics I have to say that this is one of the worst kills of a character. The only good thing is Michael Keaton and he is basically holding the movie alone but there is just to much crap, bad camera-work, story holes and deus ex machinas for him to keep it up alone. Even the original TV-show with real actor from the 80s-something was way better.
Don't get me wrong, to each their own but for me that was another kill of childhood by Disney as they did with Star Wars. And yes, Venom is looking quite good but after this desaster I'm really not hyped at all anymore. That's why I really hope that this game will do it better.
@kyleforrester87 Sometimes that's the best thing to enjoy something. I for example stood away from Horizon because I always thought "Gosh, why robot-dinos instead of real ones, what a stupid design choice, you fools" until we lately found some time to start it up. And it is actually quite good. It is overhyped, yes, and the story is very predictable but it is a solid 8/10 and it wasn't really ticking my boxes as well. Same goes vice versa with TLOU for example that was ticking a lot of boxes for me but ended up as one of the worst games I have ever played. So I just hope for both of us that we will get our fun out of it
And of course I would never bite your head off, I can fully understand what you mean, I am just hoping it turns out to be something for you, because fun is luckily not always bound to our "boxes"
@LaNooch1978 I agree. I have to admit I had trouble in the beginning with Toby and Kirsten as actors for their roles (and still have to some degree) but I really liked the Raimis, even the third allthough that one has so many lost opportunities. I also quite liked the amazing reboot as it really nailed parts of the source and I was hoping they would stick with him instead of rebooting again for the MCU.
@LaNooch1978 Yes I know what you mean and it would've been a better idea to do college era. But apart from that it was a fun ride for me, they also earned a lot of credits thta they didn't cut, alter or simplify the ending.
@LaNooch1978 I did not mean any offense. The "its too popular for me to like it" or "I liked it before it was popular" mentality always struck me as moronic. Do you like it? If yes then what does it matter if 2 other people like it or 2 billion. Have your own opinions and thoughts.
However, coming on a tread about a game going gold just to say "I dont get it" is rude and pointless, in my opinion.
@Splints I'd stay away from the "unpopular opinions" thread on the forum man, it'll drive you nuts! 😂👍🏻
@LaNooch1978 I definately didnt name call dude. I absolutely think spiderman is an overhyped superhero. I can admit the game looks tight though and I can see why people are hyped.
@kyleforrester87 I responded after your first two posts and did not see your others. I apologize as I didnt see where your thoughts were going. I think the appeal (and again im not a fan of Spidey) is that he is a nerdy unpopular teenager who all of a sudden has to deal with puberty and having super strength and senses at the same time. On top of that he has a high IQ (having been nerdy beforehand) giving him a fairly broad since of powers to use.
What you stated as cockiness is him having what I would call a "pg deadpool" as in his sense of humour just not x-rated and a sense of invinsibility as a teenager. I think what really makes people love him though are the villians he faces as they differ from brute strength (Rhino) to mad genious (doc oc) to alien (venom) to weird magic (mysterio). I guess its true that characters are only as good as their villians. (I also think that is a lot to do with Batmans popularity)
@Splints No probs, I understand and I know I'm in a minority and saying stuff like that without some more justification is asking for trouble!
@WorkingGamesFan You're done gaming after Spider-Man?! Sorry to hear .
Well at least you'll end modern gaming on a good note .
@PS_Nation Same here bro. My "spidey sense" is telling me the PS4 game is gonna be a "spectacular" experience .
@RogerRoger Oh whoops, thought you were one of the people looking forward to the game.
@LaNooch1978 I apologize for not tagging you, please forgive me! XD
@LaNooch1978 In my defense, you never posted a comment in this article saying you were looking forward to the game .
@RogerRoger Good to know ^_^.
@kyleforrester87 The game looks and seems to play (at least in the swinging) amazingly! And you don't get the hype? D:
@PS4fan I was pretty much against all digital until...I got good internet LOL
But I'm preordering the special edition, I want the steelbook and mini pop figure they offer
@ToddlerNaruto I had the first game for PS1 too ^^
@AFCC Nice, glad to hear ! I forget, was Mysterio in the first PS1 game or the second with Electro?
@ToddlerNaruto Mysterio I think! But I had the second game too later so I could be confused lol
@AFCC He was only in the first PS1 game, but he does make an appearance in the second PS2 movie game.
@ToddlerNaruto I played so many spidey games that I don't even know anymore
@AFCC Same here bro, I had to cheat and google the answers.
I've played Spider-Man 1 & 2 PS1, Spider-Man 1-3 PS2, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Spider-Man: Edge of Time, The Amazing Spider-Man, and finally The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
I've beaten most of them, just need to finish Ultimate Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
@ToddlerNaruto you're a spidey megafan!! I didn't play Amazing Spiderman 2 cause the reviews were bad, but I really enjoyed the first one
@AFCC I don't blame you, Amazing Spiderman 2 sucks...but at least it makes me enjoy Edge of Time more now.
Also I wish I was a mega fan XD. I've only read the Ultimate Spiderman comics and a few random comics plus the old newspaper strip.
Outside of that I mainly just play his games and watch cartoons/movies that include him.
