DOOM Eternal looks to be everything you could ever want in a sequel to 2016’s brutal reboot: bigger, better, and more bad ass. Developer id Software showed off a whole heap of gameplay during its QuakeCon 2018 keynote, with the demos emphasising the improved scale of the follow-up – and the host of brand new weaponry and enemies on display.
The ridiculously entertaining ‘Rip and Tear’ mechanic is still very much intact, but the Slayer finds himself armed with a tetherable shotgun this time around, making navigation and aerial combat even more exciting than ever before. Interestingly, the title will feature a new Invasion system, allowing you to assume the role of a demon in order to infiltrate other peoples’ campaigns.
It definitely does look similar, but the scale is much bigger, and the new enemies appear extremely entertaining to fight. Most importantly, the series hasn’t lost its sense of humour based on this display. Are you impressed with what you’ve seen of DOOM Eternal so far? Rip and tear the comments section below.

This looks so good.
Looks great! Still need to play the first though
@Thrillho Haha, I'd forgotten about this GIF.
Looks like more of the same. Not a bad thing in any case.
Easily one of my most anticipated games. Just when I thought the first was almost perfect, they add a ton of awesome stuff.
As good as yesterday's gameplay reveal was this was better, everything that was great about DOOM 2016 looks to be intact and improved upon with the grappling hook in particular the standout. I'm already sold on this game and is right up there with Resident Evil 2 on my most wanted list
🙌🏻
@carlos82 we should get a room, we're totally compatible.
It looks like expansion rather than full sequel.
@kyleforrester87 haha, weirdly I thought of you when watching this trailer as talking to you on here convinced me to give the first one a try
Just confirmed for the switch. Time to switch over my pre-order.
@carlos82 you had me at weirdly.
@ShadowWarrior All right, let's just drop the ban hammer.
Haha. He was warned about five times in three days!
Eff Yeaaaah!!! Wifey gave me the first one with a birthday card that said "I understand, see you in a couple of months, love"
Looks amazing.cant wait.word up son
Has the framerate been confirmed to be 60fps in the PS4 as the first Doom?
Shadow Warriors 1 was 60fps but Shadow Warriors 2 was 30 fps on the PS4, so ...
@uMuffin Your wife is one fine lady, you're a lucky guy. Take good care of her.
Is this really just more of the same as Doom 2016? I played that one for an hour or so, maybe it was a demo, maybe I borrowed it from my library, but I don't recall it looking or playing anything like this. I remember lots of tight brown and gray hallways which were slow to move through. This looks like a gravity free Serious Sam turned up to 11. I'm nto even sure I would guess it was Doom if I didn't know in advance, not only was stuff happening so fast but there was color everywhere, red, purple, green, yellow.
Does everybody look like that playing Doom or is this guy just an expert? I don't think I saw him get hit once, as if he were playing in god mode.
Looks amazing, day one buy for me !
@rjejr Dude what game were you playing? Your description sounds like DOOM 1993. Slow? Nothing is slow in that game. This one might looks a little more colorful and there's a grappling hook in this one, but damn you should play that again.
@rjejr I mean, I thought DOOM 2016 was REALLY fast. This one seems even faster.
@get2sammyb "REALLY fast"
Don't recall that at all. Maybe the Switch got the demo and it was slower? (ducks from the ban hammer)
@mazz Well it certainly wasn't Doom '93, I'm not quite that far gone yet. You did make me stop and think if I was thinking of Doom 3 though, that was slow and brown. But that too was a long time ago. No, I'm pretty sure it was 2016. Maybe the first hour is slow, or the demo, and I just quit? Guess I'll go back and give it another go.
I hope this version will finally have some decent level design, in line with the classic games, and not just one big arena fight after the other.
And invading other people's campaign?! I think that is one of the worst ideas in a long time. That alone is enough to put me off this game. Just turn it into another Battle Royale game and be done with it already.
@ShogunRok do we have a release date for this yet?
Day 1! 😎
@Bonbonetti I loved the level design in the first one. As for the invading, play offline I guess? But sounds like this sequel isn't for you unfortunately! I think it sounds awesome.
@rjejr that's pretty much how Doom 1 played once you mastered the controls. Combat was smooth as glass.
I can see it could be a very slow experience if you tried playing it like you're average FPS, looking to shoot from cover etc. but it's all about getting stuck in and those glory kills.
@Nickolaidas The framerate wasn't exactly 60fps on PS4...it tried, but it was a target.
This is the kind of game I would play after getting out of work to relieve some stress
I will not watch because this game is day one already, the first Doom is awesome. Bethesda, just like Sony, is supporting single-player games a lot, they are doing an amazing job this generation.
Doom, The Evil Within, Wolfenstein, Prey, Dishonored, thanks Bethesda!
Looks really good i should finish the first one now lol
Wow, the new Metroid Prime looks great!
I finally got a chance to watch it and man
It looks so good. Such a big, big fan of Doom.
@Jriibz Thanks for the link. That looks more like the game I played, very rocky and many corridors, but that doesn't look as shiny and crazy as this. Also possible it never occurred to me to jump, I can't recall jumping anyway. Next time I'm at the library I'll pick it up again and see if I can't make it more fun than what I was doing before.
@kyleforrester87 "like you're average FPS"
Yeah, I dont' really play those. Not since the original original Doom and Castle Wolfenstein, so I was probably playing it too duck and cover. I decided I got a free trial of Doom 2016 on Xbox 1 after having finished Gears of War 1-3, so I was playing like that. And I only played for an hour or so and never went back.
@kyleforrester87 I liked the actual combat of the 2016 game, that part was really fun; the mechanics, weapons, enemies and so on. The storyline too, was cool and fitting for a Doom game. I just don't like the direction they took, and are taking, with everything else.
One of the things that made the original Doom games so much fun for me was the level design; it was fun to explore and search for rooms and places in the complex honeycomb-structured level design. That and the special combat style is what made a Doom game to me, it's something I looked forward to with the new franchise, but it wasn't really there. In fact, the level-design in Prey (2017) reminded me more of a Doom game than Doom (2016).
I liked Doom 2016 but I got a bit bored by the same gameplay loop. However, I like what I am seeing and looks like more variety.
Looks cool but I still need to play the 2016 remake first.
