We really thought this would be the year where the PlayStation 4 starts to slow down a bit, but Sony’s console has continued to storm the United States hardware charts, beating all of its current-gen competitors for a fifth successive month. Amazingly, the system was actually outsold by the NES Classic in June 2018, although the NPD Group does note that the Japanese giant’s behemoth ruled in terms of revenue, thanks to a higher selling price.
All in all, the US games industry pulled in $1.08 billion, up 25 per cent year-over-year. The story of 2018 so far is that all of the major console manufacturers have been doing really well, and that remained the case in June, with the main three enjoying sizeable gains compared to 2017. One thing that will be particularly pleasing to the PlayStation maker is God of War’s performance, which is now demonstrating tremendous longevity. Detroit: Become Human and MLB The Show 18 are also doing very well.
It’s perhaps worth remembering that Sony ran its annual Days of Play promotion throughout E3 2018, so there was plenty of reason to pick up a PS4 in June. That said, it’s remarkable that the Japanese giant still hasn’t had to cut the price of the platform – we’d assumed that it would do so a while back, so it just goes to show what we know. We’ve included all of the relevant sales charts below – just look at God of War go.

I think we'll see a 'PS1 classic' at some point. Looking at the success Nintendo has had with this, and given Sony's history in the inudstry now, it just makes too much sense. In the meantime, I'd like to think the announcement of the N64 classic is going to happen fairly soon.
The NES and SNES Mini have been fantastic. I’ve been playing them more than PS4, Switch and 3DS combined lately.
Being able to put your own games on them really takes them to the next level. The emulation is great and the gamepads perfect.
C’mon Sony, PS1 Mini already!
Yeah I think licensing is the real issue with a PSone Classic. If they could do it, then it would be big.
It's crazy to me that Nintendo can stuff a bunch of old NES ROMs on a dedicated legacy system and have it compete in sales with modern gen systems.
Well, it's no wonder they've permanently abandoned the VC. This is probably making them more money overall, and VC releases aren't crowding out indies on the Switch eshop.
EDIT: Oh, and those old articles forecasting "the death of console gaming" years ago get funnier and funnier as time marches forward. This is the healthiest gaming ecosystem I've seen in years.
1.08 billion in the month of June only right? edit i cant read nvm -_-

"...those old articles forecasting "the death of console gaming" years ago get funnier and funnier as time marches forward"
yep, Total fail on that one.
That’s what happens when you have exclusives, you win the generation.
I would only consider buying a PS1 classic if 1-it has a lot of games inside. 2- you can add your games if it doesn't have that many.
My snes mini has like 300 games since my bday last day, ranging from nes to snes, to gbc and gba and let me tell you it's great to be able to play those classics.
I don't want a ps1 classic. I would buy a n64 classic only if it had the wrestling games. I wouldn't buy a Sega Saturn classic either.
And 2019 show no sign of slowing down either, with tlou 2, ghost of tsushima and dreams
With tlou 1 sells about 17M, I think tlou 2 has the chance to become the first ps 1st party exclusive that sells 20M+.
Glad to see God of War, Monster Hunter: World and Detroit: Become Human doing great, I still need to pick up Detroit though but at this point I'll just wait for a Black Friday sale
@Fandabidozi Really its so boring Super Mario Kart fun for a few times. After a few i just gave the SNES to my mom. 😁
Some things are better off in the past or at least remasterd. 😜
For this stage of the console generation, it's weird to still see PlayStation doing really well.
@crimsontadpoles I don't see what's weird about it, when they are releasing amazing exclusives
It's not really weird at all. Sony's consoles have all been pretty strong sellers throughout each respective gen. The PSone and 2 in particular and 4 seems to be following in the footsteps of those consoles.
@JoeBlogs Usually sequel do better than it's predecessor, as long as the quality is the same or better than the first game, and there's ps5 version (by patch or remaster and bundle), I think tlou 2 has a chance to sell 20M+ (lifetime).
If Sony do a PS1 classic, I fully expect FMV cutscenes to skip, and for numerous hangs on the Sony/Playstation start up screens for that authentic nostalgic experience. Also, it will need some form of gyro to detect when you turn it upside down to get some games to play.
