August's PlayStation Plus lineup has been revealed, and it's yet another reasonable month. On PlayStation 4, subscribers get Mafia III and Dead by Daylight. Sony's also throwing Here They Lie into the mix, which is PlayStation VR compatible. Speaking of extras, Knowledge Is Power is your bonus PlayLink title. That's four games already.
Meanwhile, Draw Slasher is available for Vita enthusiasts alongside Space Hulk. PlayStation 3 nabs Serious Sam 3: BFE and Bound by Flame.
What do you think of August's selection? Is it yet another solid month for PlayStation Plus? Give us an honest opinion in the comments section below.

Free with PS Plus is a price I can agree on for Mafia III.
Not bad
Eight games is pretty good. I played Mafia III recently and found it repetitive but I did enjoy the story a lot.
Dead by Daylight is fun. Nice that the servers will be more populated now
I'm looking forward to trying out Knowledge is Power
I called Mafia III in the previous thread will give it a go not a game I would normally play. Will give Here they lie a go again struggled with it first time but was early in my VR gaming so possibly didnt have my VR legs.
Score! I actually had Mafia 3 at checkout once, but the store clerk tried to sell me the deluxe editions, as they were all out of standards (as if!), at which point I left the game.
Knew it'll be on PS+ one day .
Solid month. Advice to people playing Mafia 3 for the first time; take it slow so you don't get burnt by the repetitive side quests.
You got it wrong - Here They Lie supports 2D for quite a long time, No VR needed!
Meanwhile Xbox 1 gets Forza Horzion 2, For Honor, (Xbox 360) Dead Space 3 & Disney Epic Mickey 2 The Power of 2.
@Simon_Fitzgerald its a great party game. The only problems really are that once you choose the question theme for a round, the rest of the rounds try to base all of the questions by the same theme - which is a little annoying. Also you get to handicap the other players through various means, but have to do so at the start of each round. Given there are about 12 rounds in a match it can be quite tedious.
That said its really fun and i am looking forward to the sequel
Bit of a 'meh' month for me. Might give Mafia 3 a go though.
FU. I BOUGHT MAFIA 3 LAST MONTH!
I hate PSN sales sometimes....
Dead by Daylight is cool I guess...
Oh dear, very very very poor, yet again, no wonder people are not renewing their membership. Both these games have below average reviews
These are definitely 2 games I'm willing to try for free. This is why I have plus. For those I wasn't sure if I should try.
@AFCC I guess Sony should consult with you before they choose the September sales?
Meh... preferred the days where psplus had brand new Indies and the occasional big game instead of a pile of "tripple A**" straight from the bargain bin, that most people who are actually interested in have most likely already bought it for 10-20€/$.
@ShadowWarrior So what?
@mambo1701a A couple of hundred thousand out of 33 million subs is hardly a mass exodus is it? And not it's far from "poor" Plus has been anything but this year.
I tried the demo of mafia 3 but didn't like it. However im more than willing to give it another go.
Happy with mafia 3, fancied trying it for the story and the music but never got round to it, bit of a result!!
One of the best months in quite a while. Several games I'd been planning on buying.
@tameshiyaku damned if you do, damned if you don't.
They really can't win.
@tameshiyaku so true.
Solid month? That's being a tad generous is it not?
That's a really good month. Something for everyone, a decent AAA title I don't own, a VR title I'll throw in the library now that I can actually get VR, and a decent party game. Good times!
Hm, Mafia III is one of those games that I was looking at but was never realistically going to buy. May have to try it now.
I'll take Mafia 3. Been close to buying that in various sales over the last year or so. Can't argue with free. (And before anyone says it, yes, I know it's not technically 'free'.)
Five Push Square 6s and one 7. Not exactly top notch. I'll add em to library... doubt I'll play em.
@get2sammyb Hi Sammy, Just playing Mafia III, and the frustrating thing is you keep thinking, This had the potential to be a Fantastic Game, as narrative Arc is fairly Solid, it just lacks that bit of Polish - but a Free PSN Game - Who can argue with the
Annual Fee, just look at 2018 Giveaways + PSN Extra Discount
@Templedoom Yeah I agree. It could have been so much better.
Very poor selection this month, won't be getting these.
Really excited to try Mafia 3.im not expecting it to light my hair on fire but I think it'll be a good 15 or 20 hours of good fun, free also helps!
@ShadowWarrior Forza Horizon is great, but I dunno about the others.
Serious Sam 3. I played one of those on GameCube a long time ago. Guess it’s time to dust off the old PS3. I haven’t even had that plugged in for over a year and a half.
I'll defo be playing Mafia 3. Hopefully I'll end up really loving it.
I've got both of them already... Damn.
This is a poor month for me PSN wise. I already own Mafia III . XB GwG wins this month for me
Mafia is a win - I liked the demo and now I have the means to binge up to it portably. Dead by Daylight is curious but apparently multiplayer only. Bound by Flame and Serious Sam 3 are very neat on paper, although as with all such PS3 giveaways, I can only hope I can run Steam versions. XD The specs and release years sound like a chance, though.
And on Vita, Draw Slasher may prove amusing, but I'm more impressed to be getting a turn-based tactic game again. Overall, a neat month indeed.
I loved Mafia 3. Not the best month for me because I already have the game.
Actually buzzing about this one. Mafia 3 had one of the best promo set pieces I've ever seen at egx 2016 and I've always meant to pick it up ever since.
@tameshiyaku I miss the day one indies too, but did you see the state of the comments on this site when those were the games? Haha, it was a blood bath.
@get2sammyb
Make that 3 people that miss the day one indies. Sure not all the day one indies where great but there was a few hidden gems.
Never played any of the Mafia games so will give Mafia 3 a go at somepoint.Other than that nothing else here interests me but i have so many decent games to play already that doesant bother me.
That's a pretty great month for me as I have a PS4, PSVR, PS3 and Vita all in use, and I haven't played any of the games.
PSA : DEAD BY DAYLIGHT IS AWESOME (IMHO). It's one of those games that looks super uninteresting and janky at a glance, but it's so much fun if it clicks with you. I recommend that everyone at least try it!
Basically, it's 4v1 multiplayer, with 4 unarmed "survivors" working together to sneak around a small map and activate generators (that open escape gates) while 1 "killer" tries to find them, injure them, and then carry them off to one of many sacrificial hooks. It's sooo much fun alone or with a friend to just sneak around and intermittently attempt to rescue people who get hung on the sacrificial hook (or not, lol). Survivors and killers all have unlockable abilities too for extra strategy that never feels unbalanced. Addicting game that always kept me on the edge of my seat.
I played it so much last year that I had to stop myself, so...I'm not sure what other changes have been made to the game since then, but I'm sure it still has that same rush of fear at its core!
Heck yeah, never played Dead by Daylight.
But I bet me and my lady friend can get some milage out of it!
Pleased with Mafia 3, but was holding out for The Order 1886.
@fluggy In the case of Dead By Daylight, it's the classic scenario where most of the problems the original reviewer had have been ironed out (i.e. unfair 1v4 game skewed toward the "1"), so I would say it's a MUCH better game now and highly recommend it to everyone (8/10, IMHO).
@smelly_jr So it's basically Friday the 13th without the licensing.
Time to trade in my physical Mafia 3 to Gamestop for $3 lol
Yes, we got Serious Sam!
Mafia 3 definitely something. Good things come to those who wait
@Tasuki I haven't played Friday the 13th since the player base has always been super low compared to Dead By Daylight (on PC at least), but yeah...I heard they're both somewhat similar! If anything, Dead By Daylight has MORE licensing (characters from Halloween, SAW, Nightmare on Elm Street and Texas Chainsaw Massacre), lol.
I've always wanted to try Friday the 13th but it never felt like a good investment due to that low player count, the game never dropping to a good price, and the apparent lack of updates / extra content from the developers at the time.
Mafia 3 looks to be the only one worth the download but I gonna give Dead By Daylight a chance base on @smelly_jr recommendation
still, waiting on Yakuza 🤣
Decent month. Dead by Daylight looks interesting. The quiz game could be good. Other than that not much.
@get2sammyb @tameshiyaku I think the day-one indies were awesome. I’d take that over something like Mafia 3 anyday. Having my indie and party games provided by Plus is excellent.
Im passing this month I am hoping September offerings are also pants so I can crack on with Forsaken and Spyro
Here They Lie and Draw Slasher are the only games I already bought, so excellent month.
@GKO900 I hope you like it! I recommend you start as a "Survivor" to learn the game. When the match starts, stay crouched and look for another player and follow them. When you see a generator, hold R1 to start repairing it, and be prepared to press L1 when prompted (to prevent a small explosion that alerts the killer). You'll figure everything else out naturally from there! Once you get the hang of it, try playing as the "Killer" (I recommend the Trapper) and you'll get a better idea of the game as a whole.
Some other random tips for the "Survivor": If the Killer is Freddy Kruger, you should definitely quit the match since his playstyle makes the game SUPER confusing for noobs (he can pull you into a dreamworld that you won't know how to get out of. NOT FUN). Otherwise, don't stay in one place too long or crows will appear (which will be a hint to the Killer that you're nearby), and know that the Killer can see your footprints for a couple seconds after you run, so know when to stop running and just crouch/walk! Lastly, if you get put on the sacrificial hook, it's sometimes better to wait for someone to rescue you than struggle to get off (and make sure the Killer is out of sight before you try to get off, lol).
@DMG361132
Same with the Plus games though so meeh
@get2sammyb yes, I remember the lynch mob mentality in the forum's too well. I understand that you can't make everybody happy, but the Indies were always nice pallet cleansers between the must have AAA games. Games most people wouldn't have tried otherwise like rocket league, furi, velocity 2x, rogue legacy... just to mention a few.
@Futureshark Same here. I really want to play TO 1886 but I’m 100% sure that when I buy it it will be on Plus the next month. Maybe I’ll have to make the sacrifice First let’s play some Mafia 3.
Bought Mafia 3 months ago used for $15🤷 they should give us a discount on the DLC.
Solid? well maybe but certainly underwhelming. The highest profile game wasn't a critical or commercial success and its metacritic score isn't impressive - especially not from user reviews. PushSquare also scored it a 6. It was a disappointing game when released and now its 'free', its suddenly 'solid'.
I know the offerings could be worse, but they could also be a lot better too...
@BAMozzy It's the type of game that does well on Plus because many weren't sure on buying it in the first place, also I wouldn't pay too much attention to metacritic scores in general let alone user reviews.
Another solid month. Adding to the growing back list. Dam you No Mans Sky from keeping from these games.
Ugh. Nothing here for me. Pulls out Nintendo Switch
Well, not much for me here. Might try Mafia 3 ....after trying Just Cause 3, Mad Max, Deus Ex, and Rayman Legends from my PS Plus backlog.
Although... @keihtg has nearly convinced me to try Dead by Daylight. Sounds actually kinda fun. I had dismissed the game as a horror game which don’t typically interest me, but I like the sound of it - maybe like Capture the Flag meets Tag with a sprinkle of Hide and Go Seek.
@Th3solution YES! Funny you should say that Dead By Daylight sounds like hide & seek, since I was gonna describe it like that but thought it would turn people away by making it seem less scary. But yeah, it's kinda like hide & seek mixed with tag...except with chainsaws and cleavers, lol.
Mafia 3 is the only PS4 title here that i have played. I will give DBD and HTL a try someday.
Mafia 3? Open world mayhem in Norleans 1968, guns, driving crazy, feeding gators, bad guys to defeat, and great music. And now it is "free".
Mafia 3 for me is stupid fun with good music. It has flaws and is disappointing in some ways. For me the cars are very disappointing. Especially after playing Mafia 2 and Gta5. The so called repetitive game play i found fun most of the time. Feeding the gators? Very fun all of the time.
@ReggieFils-Aime lol
I would have settled for the order... and knack 2.
This is the sort of month I like; games I've never bought and games I'd never buy.
I already own Mafia 3 and Bound by Flame, so will be skipping this month.
@ShadowWarrior That's a good mix of games but sill, Xbox .
@Cutmastavictory Yes please, how can I sign up for that?
But how about not putting games on sale a month prior getting out on Plus? Sounds fair to me...
@Jriibz Only one VR game and a Play Lik game
So what would you rate Here They Lie without VR?
@RevengeFan Well.. Not sure if it's worth your time without VR. It's a walking simulator with sometimes quite good atmosphere, but 2D would be meh. But for free, why not
@SilenceCZ Thanks!
