Well would ya lookie here, seems we got some Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay. In typical Rockstar fashion, the developer has made us wait an awful long time for this, but we dare say that the wait has been worth it.
The video features six minutes of footage, with classic Rockstar-style explanations. Glorious.
What do you reckon? Is Red Dead 2 shaping up as you'd hope? Grab your revolver and head for the comments section below.

We can finally stop asking for gameplay.
Wow. This is looking seriously exciting. The graphics are fantastic and the animations are crisp. I'm definitely getting it day 1 now.
It looks good
Looking fantastic, as expected!
excuse me while i go pre-order this
Excuse me while i go change my boxers
This looks absolutely unbelievably good. As expected, but still... Wow!
It looks glorious. The sun setting views from the mountain ranges look beautiful, just like in GTAV.
I am so hyped for this.
Can't wait for the NX Gamer and Digital Foundry analysis of this.
Looks boring.
Wow!!! Watched a min then stopped cos I don't want any spoilers, can't freakin wait!
Will have to go someway to beat GoW for GOTY so we'll see. Just looking good be a given at this point, just having your character sprinting without constantly hammering a button would be a start.
Freaking awesome...
This... actually looks really good. And very different from the first game.
nothing special, prob get it when its heavly discounted...
@pimpjuice If GTA V is any indication, you'll be waiting for quite a while, Sir/Madam.
Weellll.....looks like my uncertainty has mysteriously vanished. Pre-order here I come.
Looks like I'll be spending a stupid amount of time playing poker again.
That is literally the exact type of video that I was hoping to see. It's a gameplay series of videos like those released in advance of the 2010 game. So beyond excited for this one.
It looks really awesome, I’m even more hyped now.
@BearsEatBeets I will be hunting. I lost so many hours hunting in RDR.
@Kidfried I thought they did a pretty decent job of giving us a flavour of the game without spoiling any story. Although maybe skip the next video about missions. You should watch the last 10 seconds or so, really cool use of 'dead-eye'.
@adf86 I’m sure that Red Dead 2 will be GOTY contender material and I really respect Rockstar, but awards like TGA will always choose a multiplat to win instead of an exclusive on console. Anyway, there is no official award on the gaming industry, the sum of all the awards are more important.
BREAKING NEWS...Christmas has been brought forward to October 26th this year for gamers everywhere! Seriously can't wait for this.
@Splat The joy of hunting one bear to have another sneak up on you and maul you. Hope they have the challenges again to unlock the special gear.
Looks incredible but I still think 'game-play' video should show a segment of unbroken game-play rather than a montage of 'in-game' sections. The voice over also makes it feel less of a 'game-play' video too - just my opinion...
I won't be cancelling my pre-order for the 'special edition' - just need to get through Spider-Man and Tomb Raider before this releases....
@PS_Nation Well they did give Zelda GOTY last year so who knows. Just feel Red Dead 2 lacks web swinging
This looks good, not just big open world filled with mission icon like ubisoft games but a world with many interesting stuff to do, can't wait for this game
This game looks amazing.cant wait.chief.word up son
Loving the look of these contextual button prompts giving you different ways of handling scenarios.
@adf86 Personally I think this will blow GoW away at the awards. Horses for courses (pun intended LOL) as there will be some that prefer God of War's Story and game-play mechanics and have little interest in playing 'Cowboys'. They are both very different games and as such, people will no doubt have a preference.
God of War is a good game and visually impressive. Its re-invented itself too but I can't see it beating RDR2 for GotY. I can see it winning some awards or at the very least be nominated in a lot of categories but I wouldn't be surprised if RDR2 is a game that sets a new benchmark for gaming.
Looks very barren and lifeless to me.
Well that was very Westworld wasn't it.
Looks nice I suppose.
Gameplay looks great, but I don't think they've showed anything from online gameplay.
Looks great! Now I'm ready for the next gameplay video!
I'll get excited when the PC version has a release date.
I may be tired of open world games, but this still manages to excite me. I really can't wait for this.
The game looks great. I’ll be getting this for sure.
Never played the first one. It's still not on PS4, nor on PC. Oh well, then let's start with part 2 I guess.
@BAMozzy i see rdr 2 being an amazing game like the first and gow but I don’t see it setting any benchmarks which isn’t a bad thing since gta 5 was still pretty good and it didn’t set no benchmarks
@RogerRoger it’s kind of like Nintendo when they release a Zelda or Mario where its rockstar and people feel the need to overhype and act like it’s the second coming of gaming. I loved the first red dead and I’m sure I’ll love this one heck I have the ultimate edition preordered but it’s not some amazing or groundbreaking trailer like some sites are making it out to be.
@Kidfried Fair enough, I can understand that. I've reached that point with Spider-man, feel like there is way too much of that being shown in some videos now. Keeping well clear.
Still not doing a great deal for me but the world itself looks amazing
Looks glorious. Only thing I'm concerned about is the camp, and whether it's important to help out there or socialise with the camp people. I'd much rather be exploring or out causing trouble instead of doing camp chores.
@dark_knightmare2 RDR2 looks like it could set a benchmark for dynamic open world games and the AI. God of War is quite old school and very 'linear' apart from the Lake of Nine but even all the areas around that are constructed very linear. AI is functional but not exceptional. I know its visually impressive but the format is not particularly new or groundbreaking.
RDR2 is pushing new boundaries on AI - at least in theory, we will have to see how it turns out in practice. Even NPC will react differently depending on your actions and reputation, not just 'gang members' who can change towards you depending on factors. It seems that Rockstar are endeavouring to make this the most dynamic open world game, a game that feels like it continues whether you are in it or not and reacts to your actions when you are in it. It will be interesting to see how that affects the story but we will see in a few months...
Gameplay? I wanna see more cinematic stuff... pfft
Looks really really good...gameplay wise sounds kinda hmmmm...
Looks like more of the same, which isn’t a bad thing except I didn’t like RDR1 or GTAV at all, even though I gave those games lots of chances.
Doom Eternal is gonna blow this game out tomorrow
@adf86 I liked GoW, but I actually had more fun playing Horizon Zero Dawn. I enjoyed GoW story and the combat mechanics were great, but the overall game layout and skill-tree, etc wasn't that good, imho. It was rather linear and I've never been a fan of having to go back to old areas with new skills to progress... but anyway RDR2 looks AMAZING!! haha (Spider-man and Lara Croft first though)
@Kidfried This trailer is pretty spoiler free i think (normally id do what you've done) and theres some really cool shots later in the vid!
Wow, the hype is real... This is looking amazing! No idea how I'm making it to work come launch day 🤔
@RedMageLanakyn Yay cool, pc beggars even here.
@PS_Nation To be fair, I prefer my shooters with a mouse and keyboard these days, not to mention that we don’t know how well this game will actually run in PS4!
Also, can’t blame anyone for hangin’ out here instead of, say, PC Gamer’s website, which is full of horrible people in the comments section. PushSquare is the friendly place to be!
@PS_Nation Not begging, it's a matter of time. If you don't like it, suck it I guess.
@keihtg To be fair, the pc community is full of horrible people that harass developers on social media, they are doing this right now with Rockstar, saying they will give low scores on metacritic, etc. But hey, let’s ignore this because that’s not important, right? By the way, the footage was captured on PS4 Pro, but I guess it looks awful, lol.
@keihtg I wouldn't be caught dead in their comment section, here it's mostly good, obviously aside from a few rude people. I already had him ignored though
@RedMageLanakyn Yeah, absolutely, such a wonderful community. Just don’t harass the developers on social media okay? 😀
holy f**k nuggets this looks amazing I am certain this will be better than the first one which in my humble opinion was rockstar's best game.
@PS_Nation oh, I didn’t know that people were doing that. It would be reeeally annoying to wait a year or two for a release if you’re a PC gamer tho, or possibly never in the case of RDR1, so I’m not surprised about the harassment.
Also, I never said it looks bad, in fact it looks great, but I have an OG PS4 so performance could be an issue. We’ll have to see! Open world games like The Witcher 3 and Just Cause 3 have suffered greatly in he past, and Rockstar hasn’t really been tested (GTAV is a last gen port).
@keihtg Wait, are you trying to say that it’s justified to harass people on social media? Wow, I can’t even...,
@PS_Nation Hey! I never said that. I meant that I could see why people were pissed if the biggest game of the year wasn’t coming to your platform for a year or two or never (when there’s no reason it can’t release at the same time).
@JoeBlogs I never said there was anything wrong with Linearity and its probably the best for a narrative driven game. Its mostly the Story, the visuals and the polish that God of War is revered for. I don't want to spoil things in case others are yet to play but its very 'old school' in construction. Again - not a 'bad' thing.
Its not that I prefer 'Open Worlds' either as I prefer games like God of War, Uncharted etc to games like Skyrim and Far Cry and certainly looking forward to Last of Us 2 as well. The point I was trying to make though is that a Game of the Year is generally a game that sets a bar - a game that has set a new 'benchmark'. At most GoW set a bar in 'visual' standards but Zelda, last years winner, set the bar in open-world freedom, Witcher 3 set a bar in meaningful side quests with many being better than a lot of games main story - as well as the benchmark in DLC too of course.
Its not like Linear games can't or won't win GotY (look at Uncharted and Last of Usand like I said, I wouldn't be surprised to see GoW nominated either, its just that I think RDR2 will win - at least in the majority of Game of the Year awards but as there are so many nowadays, GoW could pick up a few around the globe - especially those PS based site/magazine end of year awards.
Looks awesome!
Question about the Ultimate Edition - can you only get it from Rockstar Warehouse?
@Enuo you're joking right?
@JoeBlogs I was implying that its linearity was a reason that its not pushing new ground, that its structure was more old school and whilst an incredibly polished experience, wasn't moving forward. As a franchise, the game has been brought up to date without sacrificing its core principal but its not exactly bringing something new to gaming. Again - not a bad thing - we all want great single player experiences with great stories and that level of polish GoW gave us but at its core, its very 'familiar'. The best way I can describe it is that its a 'last gen' game (in a lot of ways - maybe end of last gen than early last gen) with current gen visuals and polish. Again - nothing wrong with that either as a lot of last gen games were absolutely fantastic too.
Games like the Witcher 3 though, as an example, made games like Fallout 4 feel 'old' because that gave us something that felt 'New' rather than an 'old' game with new visuals. Zelda isn't exactly groundbreaking visually but the freedom in that world felt 'new'.
I am not criticising God of War and have said many times its a great game and deserves nomination - deserves to win in some categories too no doubt but the actual 'Game of the Year' award , I think RDR2 will win, I think will set new benchmarks for gaming and lets not forget the first Red Dead Redemption (can't say RDR as that would be Revolution) was a Game of the Year too. Unless it doesn't deliver on its promise, I think it is the most likely GotY - its a game that many publishers are trying to avoid releasing near as well.
If you want to interpret my comments your way, that's up to you but my implication about linearity was more to reinforce the more 'old school' approach to the game rather than to imply that its a bad thing. Linearity is 'generally' my preferred choice when it comes to narrative driven games although there are open world games with very strong narratives now. It used to be that Narrative got lost within mundane and separate side quests, that you could forget the main arc but we have seen a number of good narrative open world games with Side Quests that affect that story too.
@JoeBlogs I don't want to go into GoW too much for reasons of spoilers but EVERY area is linear. Yes they may have a little path off he main path that either ends in a dead end with loot/collectible or loops back to the main path with loot/collectibles. Even off that 'Hub', every area you access is basically a single path, whether it loops round or just a straight path, you still get to the boat, sail to the next inlet and repeat with mostly just loot or a collectible as the only reason to be there. Its not like you can work your way round the whole area without having to return to the boat and sail to the next cove, to the next cove etc. Its not like 'Tomb Raider' 2013 didn't use 'hubs' either and felt more 'open' too. The only reason to return in GoW to previous areas is because now you have a new 'tool' to access some blocked off 'dead ends' with loot/enemies you couldn't get the first time you were there.
The fact that GR are having to argue that borrows from other games to create a 're-invisioned' game in a 'tired' (or at least tiring) franchise is also testament to the point I was making in that its not really bringing something 'new' to gaming. Again NOT a bad thing. I agree that it is better to have a well polished and well written game that doesn't push new boundaries than some experimental new experience that is broken and requires multiple patches to get it up to standard.
The RDR2 trailer isn't necessarily doing a lot that in these short little montage clips that is evidently 'new', its more about what the whole package when taken as a 'whole' offers. If, like they say, the world 'evolves over time, that there is a natural development rather than a static environment, then that is something new. For example, you see buildings in development but if these continue to build over time so you see a natural progression, then that is a step forward. AI too could be a big leap up from what we have seen - more dynamic worlds that feel more 'lifelike' than a static point in time with at most the 'cosmetic' effects of night/day, weather. A lot of that you aren't going to get from a very small segment of game-play in a montage of moments. You don't know how that woman who reacts to the killing of her cousin may have reacted differently, how those town environments we have seen, inc the building under construction evolve over the course of the game, what it feels like being in that world and how people react to you in different ways based on actions and reputation - not just the 'main' gang members and/or important characters but the NPC's too. Even walking into town with your gun in hand is supposed to have a different reaction to being holstered. Its more around the living, breathing world than just being an 'open world' that Rockstar have been pushing the boundaries on and that's not something you will see in a snippet of game-play but something you will feel and see over an extensive time playing the game. Of course we have heard things like this before and the poof will be in the playing, but if it does live up to Rockstars ambition, then it will be pushing the boundaries of Gaming from what other 'open worlds' or linear for that matter games have managed before on a scale never seen before too...
Never played the original so I have little to no hype of this one, but it's clear that is meeting peoples expectations which is cool.
@DMG361132 Actually based on the success of GTAV on PC, I honestly can't see them delaying it for more than 6 months to a year. I won't lie and say if any of my friends have it for PS4 I won't be borrowing it, but I TRIPLE-dipped on GTAV, and although I have the money to do so now, I really don't have the time to play through the same open world/MP game three times.
"What would one suck over the internet?" - a lemon preferrably, to balance out the amount of salt he clearly has about someone preferring one platform over another for certain games
Thanks for sharing the gameplay video, definitely eager to play this when it eventually goes on sale.
