Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games has trademarked a title called Shattered State, and with Gamescom 2018 right around the corner, we’d bank on some kind of reveal coinciding with the Cologne-based convention next week. Interestingly, the Guildford-based studio filed the trademark itself, suggesting that it won’t be published by Sony like the vast majority of its portfolio. The team talked about going multiformat a few years ago.
Of course, the studio has been reasonably busy since its PlayStation 4 exclusive schlock horror surprised everyone by turning out to be pretty good: it’s worked on a bunch of smaller-scale experiences, like PlayStation VR shooter Until Dawn: Rush of Blood and PlayLink murder mystery Hidden Agenda. Unfortunately, its two big titles this year – The Inpatient and Bravo Team – both disappointed critically, so let’s hope this is a return to form.

Is this Project Mephisto? I wonder.
@adf86 Could be!
That's me after a supremely hot curry.
Hope they've taken their time with this one. The development of Until Dawn took ages and I think it paid off in the end.
Everything else they've put out since feels rushed and gimmicky.
Frankly, I just want another [regular] Until Dawn game. Just copy the exact same format or system, but have a different storyline and characters, and I think most people would be really happy. They don't have to re-invent the wheel; they have a great model already, one that is far from exhausted.
Hmm I actually enjoyed the inpatient...
@RoyalGuard It's not terrible, just a bit disappointing.
@Bonbonetti I agree. Until Dawn felt fresh and unique. A proper sequel would be nice.
The end collaboration with Sony?
Hopefully this one doesn't require any stupid accessories other than a good, old dualshock4.
