It's the mishmash that fans have been clamouring for for years now, and it looks like developer Cradle Games is finally set to deliver on that potential. Hellpoint is a Souls-like that takes place in a sci-fi setting aboard a supposedly deserted space station, and it's due for release on PlayStation 4 in 2019.
The experience is set to allow you to craft weapons, use unique skills, and forge your own path through the game which will have a knock-on effect on the types of enemies you encounter. The title will also include split-screen functionality, meaning you won't always have to go at it alone.
Is this a combination you've been wanting for a while now? What's the equivalent of a bonfire in a science-fiction setting? Slice and dice in the comments below.

Well, there's always the classic "Restoration Cubicle" from System Shock, Cloning/Healing Vats, a simple Medbay Bed with all monitors above it going "ping", a computer terminal where you "record your data" or if we want to go into the realm of the fantastical, a portal to a space/time reality where you didn't die.
That splitsceen at 53 second!? Is what I am most interested in.. Hopefully it's a succes
Pretty sure the, 'It's like Dark Souls,' bandwagon has collapsed now with so many jumping on it. But we'll see.
Isn't there already another Scifi-souls? I forgot what the name was.
@SoulsBourne128 The Surge. And it's an okay game with some good art design.
@GumbaMasta portal of space/time where you actually didnt die is a really good idea
@LieutenantFatman I may be in the small minority that just cant get enough of "soulslike"
@SoulsBourne128 its not in space though! This looks cool.
"Souls-like" = Instant skepticism.
Split-screen co-op = Instant high interest.
I'm so conflicted.
It still looks more like Fantasy than Sci-fi, especially the weapons and enemy designs. I'm disappointed, if developers call something a Sci-fi it should look like Sci-fi, not Fantasy. I think the Surge game(s) are a better fit for the 'Sci-fi Souls-like' description.
LOL nice wordplay there. SEO-optimized Trailer?
@Bonbonetti I think one issue with combining sci-fi and Souls is what kind of weapons you would expect. When I think sci-fi I think guns. Don't think guns would work that great in a Souls game, unless they are secondary weapons like bloodborne.
Light sabers are cool though. Star wars Souls where your a Jedi or sith would be unbelievable.
@Bonbonetti My thoughts exactly. Not sci-fi enough to me.
I've always thought that the only way to get me to play a "souls-like" game (if that's what we call them now) is to make it hardcore science fiction. I'm kinda glad this isn't it
My current status of souls-like games:
Looks kinda neat though even for me.
Try hards in space
I will wait for more details, but the concept is really interesting.
It looks interesting, but those animations definitely need some work.
More excited about Code Vein, bth
@SoulsBourne128 Immortal: Unchained?
@ellsworth004 I think it could work with guns, not machine guns perhaps, but rifles, pistols and handguns. Realistically, such a game would probably have to feature some kind of melee weapons, to avoid turning it into a cover-based shooter. A mix of the two, somewhat like Bloodborne but a heavier emphasis on the "gun weapon".
So I'm not against using melee weapons in Sci-fi, but they should be different from what you see in your average Fantasy game. Star Wars is a good example of how you can make melee weapons look Sci-fi. The weapons I've seen in Hellpoint so far look too much like orthodox Fantasy weapons.
The enemies too, look far too similar to what you would encounter in Dark Souls, Skyrim or Diablo. I just don't think they have been creative enough with the design of enemies and weapons. The Surge is a good example of how you can make a Sci-fi Souls-game that has enemies and melee weapons that look and feel like Sci-fi.
@Th3solution I'd be more excited for Code Vein if they weren't chaining me to an AI companion.
That looks ropey as hell, not to mention completely unoriginal. Not impressed so far.
@fontainelefunk Yeah that was it. Thanks!
It looks interesting. I wish there were more sci fi games like Mass Effect or Rogue Galaxy with the space opera theme.
@NoxAeturnus I actually like the idea of the AI companion, just as long as he or she is fairly intelligent. I saw where you do have to heal them and they can heal you, which could end up being annoying, but it will be helpful for some enemies to use them as a distraction. But I agree with you that if it’s not well implemented then it could be bad.
@Th3solution To each their own I guess. It takes something away from the experience for me that I'm not allowed to take on enemies alone. Less rewarding to my mind. I guess I just don't see why an AI companion like that can't be optional. Best of both worlds.
@NoxAeturnus Good point. Maybe they can make it optional, but it seems like it’s a big focus in the gameplay they have revealed, so probably not. But I agree that making it optional would be ideal. I played through all of Bloodborne including defeated all the optional bosses (minus the Chalice Dungeons) by myself. There were times I almost summoned help, but there was a certain satisfaction in doing it alone also.
