Phew! You’re going to need a big ol’ hard drive in order to play Red Dead Redemption 2, as the hotly anticipated Western will require 105GB minimum. The tidbit is listed in small-print on the back of the recently announced PS4 Pro bundle’s box art; we assume that the additional data will be downloaded once you’ve installed the Blu-ray disc.
Of course, there’s the slightest possibility that this may be placeholder box art and the finer details are still being ironed out, but the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto V famously required you to install from a separate DVD, so Rockstar’s renowned for going a little overboard with its games. We’ll try to get some confirmation.

That's a big ol' nope.
Wow thanks for the heads up better start deleting stuff now lol
Wow... And since PS4 actually requires double the amount to download games, you need at least 210GB !! Seriously, you went a little too far, Rockstar.
Have they ever heard of compression data? Next gen is going to need 2TB minimum at this rate.
@RenanKJ Rockstar does what it damn well wants!
God bless my 4tb hard drive 🙏
Is the price we pay for 200 animals
Good thing I'm waiting for an external drive before getting anymore PS4 games then, if this is true.
Well if this is true then I won’t be able to play it on release day. If a Blu-ray Disc holds a maximum of 50gb that means downloading another 50-60gb of data, which with my crappy internet would take a good day or so
Thank god I bought a 4T hard drive a month ago.
@get2sammyb That they do. The crazy thing is that their games always sell absurdly well. 😁
@adf86 What if this is actually compressed data? oO
So that's 65GB you need to download, at least. Jesus.
@RenanKJ Seriously doubt we will need 200 gb plus,come on now.
It's possible that you might not have to download the extra data on launch day. It could be an additional download that will come when Red Dead Online launches in November.
That's yuuuge.
I'm not getting this game, ever. Jesus
@get2sammyb when do you guys get a copy to review
@QualityGeezer Probably never.
To be honest, we're fully expecting them to focus on the big sites like IGN and GameSpot. And that's fine, we'll just play it alongside the rest of you!
@get2sammyb thats fair enough, on an unrelated note the new assassins creed 'lust for life' trailer is awesome lol that's worth a mention
Gears of War 4 on PC is 131GB 😉
You all wanted shinny 4K textures.
Kids: "Daddy, why have you deleted Disney Infinity and all of our save files?"
Me: "This town ain't big enough for the two of us"
@Gremio108 SSS Tier comment
@gremio108 wow there's way too many lego games on here son lol
Good lord.
so my base ps4 is pretty much done for performance wise for this game if the install size is anything to go by.
still don't feel like buying a pro just for this game alone though.
@Agramonte Dude, don't get me started with Gears of War 4 on PC! Not only is that game 131 GB, but the Windows Store download has an infamous error that corrupts the download part way through you have to start all the way over! Also, after one of the updates, I remember having to re-download the entire game because of a patching error! It's hard not to hate the Windows Store when stuff like that happens...
Games need to start following PC games and having OPTIONAL 4K textures downloads, and separate installs for multiplayer and singleplayer!
I guess I can delete all my TellTale games.
Too Soon?
@splat best to let it go
Ridiculous. Better finish off some games before this arrives then
is this with the online mode included or is that going to be it's own update increasing the total size even more?
Well im not getting it anyway so that saves me a lot of space. 😁
@jdv95 why is that, does the performance of your PS4 degrade when the hard drive is getting full?
@keihtg i have never finished it!!!! game got an update (or who in heaven name knows) one day and it would crash after the logo... Every time.
I did everything on the post... Even downloading the 130gig again
https://www.reddit.com/r/GearsOfWar/comments/7e53vj/gears_of_war_4_pc_keeps_crashing_after_logo/
To this day, Nothing works to fix it - The best one was the "clean install windows" suggestion 😒 I rather give up... It is all Mickey Ware. 😂
I think this is the only thing I'm gonna be playing for the rest of the year so not too bothered about the size once it's finally installed.
More concerned with how long it might take to download it all but I guess we'll cross that bridge when the day eventually comes. One more month!
@Agramonte That sucks! Sounds like the error I had...logo would come up, and then the crash to the desktop. I reinstalled the entire game and it worked, however, so it may be a different problem altogether. I should note that since my game would never download properly, I always had to use a link grabber (i.e. JDownloader2) to download the entire game as a 130 GB installer, and then install the game using that (so you either have to have 260 GB free or use an external hard drive). Definitely a huge pain in the butt!
Wouldn't it be cool if it was just on two discs? Like "back in the day"?? "insert disc 2 "? I'd like that 😍
@keihtg Oh!... Maybe that would work. Yes, that is my problem. It will get up to the studio logo and crash. I was just downloading from the store. Maybe doing it that way it will work.
I backed the Nvidia drivers down 2 version and ended up loosing 5-10fps in the Battlefield V demo and it did not work anyway. Not re-installing windows... I'll just see a YouTube video of the ending if need be and call it a day.
I played the Forza Horizon demo - I loved it. But not buying a $60 Microsoft game on the Windows store.
I'd delete everything just to play RDR2.
So if TLOU2 is less than 200GB then is pure crap. : P
Good that I cared in advance and now on 5TB on my Pro
Ridiculous! Probably doesn't include patches for online mode as well, yet.
I'm pretty sure my copy of LA Noire had multiple discs and would stop the game and say to enter in the next disc to continue.
105GB!? That's crazy.
And Cyberpunk 2077 will probably take up twice that. 😪
@adf86
I already have over 2TB on the 4TB external drive I use for the PS4. The 2TB I have for Xbox One is also nearly filled (would be filled if that's where I played multiplats). We'll need 4TB minimum next-gen. 105 GB of space for one game is kind of LOL-worthy but I know of a few this gen that came before RDR 2 which have insane file sizes.
A 512GB USB flash drive could be a solution to both the storage problem and the long loading times.
Xbox360 uses a DVD disc, so you need another disc to install.
Xbox is always behind PlayStation, lol
Smh so tired of these publishers selling incomplete physical copies that rely on the internet for single player..... They should of just made it pure digital and called it a day.
AS @keihtg said, separate installation file would be a bless. I play offline only on my OG PS4 and I have to waste space for things I'll never use.
And talking about RDR 2, it would have been even bigger if it had french, spanish, german and italian dubbing as any reasonable AAA title should have.
Might have to make room on my 2TB jeez...
think its a mistake, seen more than one game with the wrong info for install size, but i can see this being standard next gen
@Turismo4GT no,it's just me being parranoid.
I guess it's a good job cowboy games are boring.
well that's a big pile of NOPE
i was put off by all the other stuff they was doing but this was the deal breaker
i uninstalled Battlefront 2 and Batman because they was sitting at about 90 gb each but 105, i could potentially save that room for 5 other games (depending on size of course)
and if i decided to get it on XB1 it would leave me with 40gb of free space and i only have 5 games on that system
@keihtg PREACH THAT!
they really should and case in point FFXV that game runs worse on a base PS4 and XB1 since the un-optional 4k update, it now has texture and asset pop in it never used to have
they should be free DLC you have to download from the Stores
@get2sammyb I've been thinking about this, and I don't think the game itself is actually 105GB. The way installation works on PS4 is that you need double the space to install the game, because it extracts the filea on the PS4 itself. Spider-Man required something like 90GB too, even though it's nowhere near that size, it fits on a 50GB disc after all. So it's probably just under 50GB, with an extra 5GB of leeway for the installation.
I'll probably buy this game on disc in that case, since I don't have to download anything. Got plenty of room on my external drive, so the size is not an issue for me.
@Octane Spider-Man box art says '45GB Minimum'.
still a shame that even though you buy the disc,it will still need around 50 gigs as a download.
or one of the hidden features on filmware 6 is the ability to read 4 layered blue ray discs,but even then the day 1 patch might still be huge.
This is why I got a 1tb hard drive. I feel bad for those with 500gb
@get2sammyb Hm.. You're right...
If I'm not mistaken GTAV was initially around 50GB but ended up being 90+GB after all the patches added. I would be surprised if RDR2 ends up being 150GB or more.
@WanderingBullet, GTA5 file size on my pro is currently 71.59GB. About 20GB is online updates/dlc with maybe some minor single player fixes.
GTA 5 on PS4 like on the PS3 can be played in single player from a physical copy without any downloads. However on the PS3 online dlc cars and weapons also become available in single player story mode if the free updates/dlc are downloaded.
With RDR2 my hope is that the game will also be playable with just a physical copy and no mandatory download to play single player story mode. At 105GB that will probably not be possible.
This is one thing I hate about this Gen is the lack of Hard drive space :-/ I know you can get a 2TB internal PS4 hard drive(even that isn't enough really) and now you can buy a bigger external hard drive but still that is extra money you have to spend in the end :-/ Oh well.
@NoCode23 Only 71.59GB? I thought I recalled it being 90-something GB on my standard PS4. Still, 71GB is a lot. Anyways, I've already uninstalled it.
100GB is nothing, though this game may tempt me to finally swap out my 1TB HDD with a 2TB at least.
@Boldfoxrd
why its easy enough to get a external drive and/or replace the internal one. its not like they are stuck with it and have no options
98.15 GB
Already have it downloaded, can't wait!
