At the very start of the year, 20th Century Fox spoke about its expansion into video games with FoxNext Games. After acquiring Cold Iron Studios, the company announced it was developing a new shooter within the Alien franchise, but nothing more was said regarding the project. Nearly a year down the line, it seems like FoxNext may be gearing up to tell us all about the title, potentially at The Game Awards 2018.
Alien: Blackout was filed for trademark a few days ago, which is almost certainly the name of Cold Iron Studios' new game. What's more, an official Twitter account has also been discovered. It's inactive right now, but we imagine this will be brought to life following the official announcement. There's also this exchange between Hideo Kojima and The Game Awards on Twitter:
The timing of all this, a week or so ahead of Geoff Keighley's awards show, leads us to think it's not a coincidence. We imagine one of the record number of announcements at this year's ceremony will be FoxNext's Alien shooter. Are you excited to see Alien: Blackout? Will it be at The Game Awards 2018? Looking forward to the reveales, not so much to the awards.
It's bound to be rigged in someway if previous winners are anything to go by.
Allen themed Battle Royale incoming
I can't say I am excited to see Alien: Blackout - interested maybe. Its a bit difficult to be excited by something you know virtually nothing about.
The Game Awards is practically E3 these days.
@Ralizah most likely because fewer and fewer people are interested in the actuall awards these days.
might be the reason that this year they will have more reveals then other years,to boost views up again.
Isolation was so very very good that I can't be but excited about the future of the franchise. A shooter sounds worrying but we'll see. If it's as classy and true to canon as Isolation was it might be great. Maybe they're going for something like the first two movies were, first a sci-fi horror and then equally great sci-fi action with horror-ish vibe.
Randy Pitchford should definitely make this game, just like he did with Aliens: Colonial Marines, a cult classic.
well the game awards is basically just a popularity contest, so we all know who is going to win don't we?
I won't say RDR2.. but it's RDR2
Exciting stuff, love Alien!
Day 1 if the game is good and like alien 2 (shooter) rather than alien 1 (hide and seek horror).
TGA are fun if you like the obvious winner, and boring if you don't care about the nominees. I don't care about GoW, haven't played RDR2, and my favorite RPG isn't even up for a vote, so I have very little investment in it (VC4 is up for a vote, but it's not going to win an award, so...)
"Alien: Blackout was filed for trademark a few days ago, which is almost certainly the name of Cold Iron Studios' new game."
i dunno it could be a new movie
If it's anything like isolation I'm in. That game needs a VR version!
@wiiware I'm not mad keen on hide and seek horror but for the Alien franchise it just WORKED. After the initial sections you could comfortably go up against anything else you encountered with the weapons you find, I became pretty good at taking out those pesky 'droids. And as for the Alien itself you do get something wonderful to keep it at bay during the later stages - a flamethrower! The way it reacted to a squirt of the hot stuff was awesome. After a while it learnt that flamethrower make hurty and it'd stop in it's tracks if you pulled it out when it came at you.
It was more Resident Evil 7 than it was Outlast, by the end.
But sure, i'd take a decent action based Alien game too.
@kyleforrester87 nice to see Big Boss taking part in the festivities
@Tha_Likely_Lad Big Boss invented the festivities, and he can take it away!
Make it like Isolation and I'm there day one, such a good survival horror game
When I hear 'shooter' I typically tune out. I'd prefer a new survival horror where the aliens are extremely difficult to kill. It would be cool to have a space station or an alien planet where you try and kill players either with weapons or by luring the alien to them. Maybe players could race to an escape pod and only a limited number can escape. Team up with a select few and impede the other groups with an escaped alien or aliens on the loose.
According to the SixthAxis, Cold Iron Studio has only 30 devs so it's unlikely to be a AAA production.
@kyleforrester87 For me alien games is about slowly advancing hall with scanner before the beeping grow louder, aliens show up, and all hell breaks loose
Man I adore aliens games on pc back then, I remember there's the the one that have 3 campaign for alien, marine, and predator.
Another alien game thats cool. I still need to resume watching the movies, stopped around the beginning of Aliens.
