Battlefield V officially launched last week – well, for non-subscribing peasants anyway. Word is that the first-person shooter hasn’t exactly been setting the sales charts alight, and that’s perhaps evidenced by this Target offer, which has seen the title’s MSRP temporarily cut in half, down as low as $29.99 until Thursday.
Please note that some external links on this page are affiliate links, which means if you click them and make a purchase we may receive a small percentage of the sale. Please read our FTC Disclosure for more information.
As far as we can tell, the offer only applies at Target right now, but you may be able to price match at other stores. This isn’t the first big November game to get a rapid price reduction, as Fallout 76 and Hitman 2 have also been on offer over the Thanksgiving holiday period.

Almost every major so-called "triple A" game is now at a discount price. I wonder if it has something to do with terrible quality and being unfinished products while forcing microtransactions into every aspect of said products before pushing said products out the door with game breaking bugs while lacking in basic content for a $60+ price point?!
This feels as if may develop into worrying trend for the industry. This could be bad for smaller devs that legit put in the work/don't have to rush out glorified alpha code for shareholder and investor satisfaction.
Man I am gutted for that dude who paid for the special version plus EA access who was in the comments a few weeks back defending typical EA BS.
Sucker.
This is exactly why Sony seems to favour the Feb to May launch window for their exclusives these days. Anything released in the autumn is under increasing pressure to be included in the black friday sale, or is otherwise lost in the rush of releases before Christmas. Who has really talked about Valkyria Chronicles 4 after its bizare launch window. Even past 'big hitters' like tomb raider have struggled.
I think battlefields struggles can partly be attributed to
a) a lack of trust in EA. Its been building for a while, but battlefront 2 seems to have been the straw that broke the camels back. Anthem may struggle.
b) FPS fatigue. At least among the 'big names'. Fortnite and to an extent overwatch have taken the attention away from CoD and Battlefield. But there are less fps games around these days, suggesting the market is a little tired of them
C) a bizare launch with different release dates depending on who paid more. This has only split a community, who will accuse EA of making this pay to win
D) another incomplete launch, with battle royale not available until next year. Players have had enough of microtransaction fuelled products and being taken for a ride. Fallout 76 is an example of how our great industry and players are being exploited
The problem is that this time of year is always far too busy and games are either getting longer or being designed so that you have to play them daily/weekly, so at some point games lose out as there simply isn't enough time to play them. This leaves the retailers with lots of surplus stock that they want to shift and ready made sales to put them in.
Except for Fallout 76 which is on sale because it's utter #%$^@&*£×+ 😆
I think discounting after a week is a bit crazy personally. A month I can understand, but a week?
Doesn't surprise tbh, I absolutely hated the beta. Nasty game all round.
Let us know when/if this hits the UK please!!
To think I was considering buying this for £79.99 at launch, so glad I never. I don’t think it’s half price in the UK but if it was I’d likely buy it, got a rental copy right here but it’s one of those games I’d play all the time so I could justify buying it. Really enjoying it and can’t wait to see how it’s battle royale mode plays.
Yet more bf hate from you guys? C'mon already. Its been common this past month.
Mum picked it up along with odyssey for £60 at the weekend. So christmas gifts for moi.
A sad lesson for anyone who preorders, just don't do it! Don't get sucked in by the hype, just be part and now in a matter of a week it's cheaper.
(having said that, I preordered Resident Evil 2 Remake, but that's different isn't it).
My other point is if you make a really good game, and it's actually really good, then it will sell in huge numbers, eg Spiderman, God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2.
Make a bad or average game, and people will pass.
Bleeding obvious really, but with word of mouth being what it is on the Internet these days, people won't put up with dross anymore, eg Fallout 76.
I'm so amazed devs publish half baked games and expect people to pay premium prices for them, when in a month or so it's usually a third or so less and patched to be less buggy by then (in an effort to save the release).
Just make it good in the first place and it will sell!
So basically if you feel like a game from a big third party developer is going to underperform in the very short term, just wait a week or two and 20 or 30 bucks on it. What a joke.
If you don't build a decent player base at the start with these multiplayer games, your games dead. They will be planning to get more mtx money. Against COD this year, they have to do something quickly. I'm really enjoying playing rd2 but a rockstar game is one of the few games I would buy at launch. Other than rockstar or Nintendo, if your skint or to busy to play at launch you would just be better waiting for a discount. People moaning about tomb raider, well, it was pretty obvious it was getting discounted pretty quick. Time for patient gaming! Most of the time not only is the game cheaper if you wait, the game is better as the bugs are fixed!!
You're welcome
Also it's $42 at best buy and includes free steel book cover and they will price match the target price. So BFV + steel book cover for 30 bucks!
...I don't even play FPS games and I kinda want to take advantage of this.
I hardly ever buy games at full retail anymore because I know they will be discounted weeks after release. Unless of course it's a game I can't wait to play, but usually those are rare nowadays. The more you wait the more you save.
@get2sammyb I'm pretty sure that had it launched a month ago, it wouldn't have been discounted until BF or CM.
"A sad lesson for anyone who preorders, just don't do it!"
Red Dead 2 launches: everyone has a copy.
Hm...
Battlefield Vegan got what it deserves & Blops4 beating every record. There is justice in this world
The game was never gonna be a big hit compared to the other BF games.
Maybe we can attribute it's poor sales (only poorly selling games have such a big discount on Black Friday) due to the people finally voting with their wallets against EA and it's practices. Although that is just me being hopeful but if so it can truly mean the deserved shakeup that the company needs in order to become clean again. If anthem sells poorly that could be the final nail in EA's shareholder's coffin. And I won't be mad at all.
I'm happy to pay full price if I like the looks of the game, quick discounts don't really bother me. But then I don't really buy games like BF anyway. No regrets buying some other games that have been hit with quick discounts though.. (looking at you Bethesda..)
Well I bought battlefield 1 for 5$ 2 weeks ago I ain't complaining
They're just taking the concept of paying more for early access very seriously.
A month, I get it. A week for half-price? That’s insulting to day one, it really is.
Multiplayer games are dying and single player experiences are hitting stratospheric heights 😉
@naruball
I don't, went for Assassins Creed Odyssey instead (not preordered) ;op
@Futureshark we're the exception, though. It seems to be a rule that applies to some games for some reason.
This is why I never buy games at full price unless it's from a developer known for never dropping in cost, such as Nintendo or Rockstar. Most of the time you can wait 1-6 months (depending on the title) and save at least 50%. And waiting is never too bad since I always have a huge backlog!
Add fromsoft to that list
It's a shame as its actually a pretty good game if you can find a decent squad that works as it's supposed to.
So it's just target, which is US only to begin with. So lame...
Funny that when a game comes with free dlc it bombed.... instead people flock to cod where you have to pay all new map packs, and then they complain...
Battlefield 5 is still too much. Trash isnt worth $30.
@Kidfunkadelic83 exactly. You in a good squad and the game is tons of fun.
Either way, Im enjoying it a bunch
@3MonthBeef for BFV and the like specially or in general?
@R1spam I am totally with you there.
Gaming on a budget has forced me to wait. And I actually like it. I pick up games for a fraction of the price six months or more after launch and usually they have all the DLC included plus bug fixes.
I know there is a buzz to play a game when everyone else is. I did that with Zelda Breath of the Wild and it was fun discovering that game when my brother and our friends were all playing it and sharing experiences. But that was a unique experience and price wise the game is still about the same price I paid for it nearly two years later.
In general. If you are playing single player games, wait a year to enjoy it for cheap (there are too many games to play anyway so you will be kept occupied). If you want to play multiplayer with friends, probably wait a month until first discount.
@wiggleronacid
I agree. Nintendo is getting flak for maintaining their games' value over time while their rivals (publishers even Steam) is spoiling their customers to wait a month or two for the inevitable discount/sale. These publishers themselves are to blame.
@Bliquid In other words the whole "don't pre-order games" is silly.
@Bliquid "Rockstar, Blizzard and Nintendo"
That's a lot of games. "Don't pre-order games from developers without a stellar track record" makes more sense.
@Bliquid makes sense
