The story of 2018 has by and large been that all major systems have performed well, and that continued in November with stat-tracking firm the NPD Group reporting that all three primary platforms exceeded sales of 1.3 million units for the month. As was expected, the PlayStation 4 was the best-seller in terms of unit sales, buoyed by the $199.99 Marvel’s Spider-Man bundle that ran during Black Friday. The Nintendo Switch generated more revenue, but was obviously sold at a higher price point.
It means that in its fifth year on the market, the PS4 is currently the best-selling console of the year in the United States, though without any deals in December there’s a good chance that it may still get pipped at the post by the second year Switch. When you consider how well Nintendo’s hybrid is doing overall, though, it’s a sign of just how healthy the industry is that Sony’s console is remaining very competitive this late in its lifecycle. And the Xbox One isn’t exactly dragging its heels these days anymore either.
Despite all of this, overall industry spend was actually flat year-over-year, with declining software sales offsetting a small upturn in hardware revenue. Red Dead Redemption 2 was, as you’d expect, once again the month’s best-seller, followed by Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Battlefield V. To the surprise of many, Fallout 76 finished fourth and that’s without digital sales, although it failed to beat the launch sales of Fallout 4 and Fallout: New Vegas.
Sony’s big exclusives continued to sell well through November, with Marvel’s Spider-Man finishing 13th on the charts and God of War returning in 16th position. The duo are now the sixth and seventh best-selling games of the year respectively, which is impressive to say the least. It’s also worth mentioning that Spyro: Reignited Trilogy burned its way into ninth position in the November charts, with total sales 30 per cent higher than the launch month sales of all previous Spyro titles combined – minus the spin-off Skylanders series.

Fallout 76 did... Really well?
@get2sammyb well Bethesda did say millions in some PR post
I guess it sold 2M+?
@NintendoFan4Lyf does it really matter um who wins we don’t need no console war poop emoji in this...
@Derpie1 It does. Because PlayStation gamers are winners.
We general have better jobs, better partners, better social economic status, better sex lives, better diets and better clothes.
Im basing all that comparing myself to my 17 year old xbox playing son but it's true.
I think people need to remember that the PS4 is old now. It's exceeded expectations this year and will surely start to decline in 2019.
That's only natural.
@get2sammyb it’s an old man but if you want the real old men it’s the 3DS and Vita!
Wow... 1.3 million each is fantastic.
Having a PS4/Switch combo is the way to go right now. Good times.
ps4 domination word up son
@NintendoFan4Lyf
'Don’t worry Sony fans, January and February will pick up steam '
??
I genuinely don't understand what your trying to say?
OT
Its kinda mind blowing the ps4 is actually cheaper than the Switch. The Ps4 selling more units but Switch making more money is something I didn't expect.
@NintendoFan4Lyf "I think it’s safe to say that"
I don't think you were thinking of WHERE you were saying it. 😉
I was thinking it myself, that SSBU is looking to be #1 and catch RDR2 and the FPS for December, but I didn't think it safe to say. 😁
@rjejr
Its not even safe to say your a PlayStation fan here.
You d be called a fanboy devoted to Sony or something
@themcnoisy ...and most pornhub views...😀
@NintendoFan4Lyf
So?
Your prediction, even if true, should have PlayStation fans worried right now?
PS4 win again! It is still liked a beast!
@NintendoFan4Lyf
OK. Thanks for being nice with the ps fans I guess?
👍
Haha
@themcnoisy
You sir get a complimentary up vote from me.
@Agramonte this!!! With that combo all I'm really missing out on is forza and cuphead. Playing red dead 2 and smash at the moment and loving life.
Really wished Spyro would have failed. It was rushed out for the holidays. Spyro 3 is really glitchy, and they couldn't even fit the whole game on the disc. I'll take the PS1 versions anyday.
@playstation1995 My nation is PlayStation Nation, our national anthem is Greatness.
Word up son.
I'm actually surprised at how well X1 is doing considering its general lack of exclusives...
Yeah, the entire industry is looking super healthy right now. It's quite encouraging, especially compared to how anemic Nintendo and Microsoft looked earlier in the gen.

Fallout on there and no Hitman.. sad times
@PS_Nation haha.well say.👍.word up son
@Dodoo Not so well if compared to the competitors, another reason why they are not showing their sales.
@get2sammyb True. However...it could very well prove us all wrong and somehow still end up with surprising sales. It all depends on what is coming beyond what we know, and if PS5 will finally be revealed next year.
@get2sammyb Unless it becomes the next PS2. It sold very well until around 2010 ish
