Remember cross-console play? It was a hot button topic in the gaming industry for all of five minutes, until Sony announced a Fortnite beta and no one ever mentioned it again. Well, Rocket League is the second game to join the programme, meaning that from today, players on “PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam can now randomly matchmake with or against each other in all online match types”.
You can enable the feature in the ‘Options’ section from the main menu, but it’s turned on by default. Obviously if you only want to play with Sony folk, then you can toggle it off, too. Oh, and if you want to match with specific buddies on other systems, then you can create private matches to do so, but developer Psyonix is working on a more convenient cross-console party system that should roll out at some point later this year.

Remember when cross-console play was going to kill PlayStation if they didn't change their stance?
@get2sammyb Remember when Sony wasn't going to skip E3 2019 as that was stupid?
Yeah turns out being wrong isn't rare
Still, nice to see. That makes....two games? Whoopy. Ain't making me buy it on PS4 now though so who the hell cares.
I've got Persona 5 Arse to play.
@Knuckles-Fajita Why would it make you buy it on PS4? I thought that was the whole point of this?
@get2sammyb Wasn't the primary argument "Well I wont buy it on PS4 if I cant play with my friends"? Something dumb like that.
I can play with my friends now via my PS4. But I already have it elsewhere, as do those friends so...nice for the few who care?
Man 2018 really was years ago in internet time.
@Knuckles-Fajita This is what I'm saying. The whole point of them allowing this was so you don't have to buy the PS4 version, yet you're here with the following comment: "Ain't making me buy it on PS4 now though so who the hell cares."
I dunno, just didn't make sense to me.
EDIT: Actually I see what you mean. I misread slightly. As you were.
@get2sammyb Bit late for this ain't it? XD
@Knuckles-Fajita
A while back it was a free PS+ game and exclusive to ps4 if I remember right. One of the best PS+ game tbh. A shame you missed it.
@JJ2 I didn't miss it. I have the game elsewhere.
What I am mocking is how the arguments a while back were "Well I wont buy it on PS4 if I can't play with my friends".
When the reality is, now that its got cross-platform play...is anyone going to jump to that version?
@Knuckles-Fajita t
Yeah. Lately I read more arguments about 'I won't buy a game on ps4 if I can't blow little skirts with a golden fan I can have on Nintendo'. Haha
In think this is awesome. More games will come and it’s very good Sony changed. Next-generation could be built with this more in mind. Some of you count this out too quuckly. It will be awesome to keep MP games alive longer. Look at the bigger picture and small ways Cross-play will be super helpful.
@JJ2 I forgot to download the game and i dont want to spend any money on it. 😃
Do not care about Cross-Play. Give Cross-Progression Accounts
Let me play on the GO on my Switch but can jump back to my PC or PS4 when I am home.
I suspect we won't see too many games added till after PSN ID changes come in. I imagine Sony won't want to take risks.
@Jaz007 It's a good thing ultimately, but the initial overreaction to it all was so overblown. This article has barely had 500 views, where the "controversy" was getting views in the 10,000s.
That tells me that many, many people didn't care for the feature, just the drama.
@get2sammyb No, but I remember fanboys being happy to have less features and defending corporate lip service.
I thought this game already had cross ply from the beginning?
