Following all the positive press surrounding the brilliant remake of Resident Evil 2, news has broken out regarding a Netflix Original Series adaptation of the franchise. The website Deadline reports that the company is currently working on an original Resident Evil show alongside the German production company, Constantin Film, which is also responsible for the movies.
"The drama series will explore the dark inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and the new world order caused by the outbreak of the T-virus," claims the site. Apparently, the series will feature all the "signature elements" of the franchise, including action sequences and easter eggs.
There's not much more information to go on at the moment. However, a Netflix series on Resident Evil is definitely possible; the company has shown clear interest in adapting video games into series, with its animated Castlevania show and the upcoming Witcher series. Awesome! Hope it starts out at the beginning at the Mansion like the first game. Hopefully they don't hold back on the horror and gore.
I'd check it out.
Noooooooo!!!!!
Netflix ruins everything! Just look at what they did to Death Note!
I'm quite excited about this despite hating the films...(except the first one which I enjoyed).Everything I have watched on Netflix so far has been pretty great so I have high hopes for this.
@Constable_What I thought Death Note was pretty great actually lol.
So long as it's more interesting than the films, as I remember watching the first two of those on dvd back to back with my brother when I was young and feeling really bored. They made such a vague impression on me that all I remember about them was thinking how skinny Milla Jovovich was when she woke up with no clothes on in a lab at some point and stumbled out of there! I generally enjoy Netflix's original series a lot though, so would absolutely watch this.
Netflix and Jill
Netflix seems like a natural home for the show. It has done a good job on showing the darker side of characters in other TV series.
@Constable_What They did some good adaptations like castlevania, altered carbon or partially the marvel series. Death note had a great L but the characterization of light yagami was way off.
@Constable_What or they could surprise us with hits like Stranger Things?! Guess we won't really know until the show hits our streaming goggleboxes!
@Spectra can anything be as bad as those?
I'd love something set in racoon city, all the wonky umbrella corp stuff gives it a nice slant.
That subheader is brilliant!
Please nothing like the movies.
Netflix couldn't even give gamers a full day to enjoy Resident Evil 2 before they announce they plan a crappy adaptation of the franchise.
Well, Netflix Marvel series have been better than any of the movies, so it could be pretty good.
I haved liked almost every netflix orignal i have watched. They do a pretty good job imo.
Can't be worse than the movies. Right...?
No, seriously, the movies aren't THAT bad but hardly resemble the RE universe apart from the CGI ones. A series could work but it has to be something that lasts. I mean, there's not that much to work with if they choose to follow the (I love the series but let's be honest here) awful storylines of the games.
Oh yes.......loving Castlevania and looking forward to Witcher.....take my money now Netflix
