While it hasn’t applied to every first-party game, we’ve rather enjoyed Sony’s DLC strategy this generation. Games like Horizon: Zero Dawn and Marvel’s Spider-Man have been expanded with enormous add-on packs, and it sounds like there will be more content coming to Days Gone after its release on 26th April.
While developer Bend Studio isn’t detailing exactly what it’s got in the pipeline just yet, community manager David Lee told GamerBraves that there is unannounced add-on content on the way, but “we cannot tell you more about that yet”. One thing is clear, the campaign will be complete on launch day, so expect the DLC to be additive – rather than plugging gaps.
What kind of DLC would you like to see added to Days Gone? Explore the apocalypse for a few extra hours in the comments section below.

Kind of rubs me the wrong way that DLC is announced before the full game is even released.
I wonder if it will be single player story add on or some kind of survivor stile MP on set in the open world. A faction vs faction kind of thing would be interesting. Gather resources, build a camp, gear up and then go raid other factions.
@OMG_Waffles To be fair there hasn't been any DLC to announce. I suspect Sony will end up officially before launch cos a lot of people find DLC announced beforehand as guaranteed long term support.
This is kinda lame news but I'll support Bend Studios with some dlc funds if the main game is good.
@AdamNovice
Fair point. In today's day and age long term support is extremely important in keeping the community active and for increasing sales over the long term. I just kind of find it cheap that the game hasn't even dropped and there already talking about add on DLC. Could be I'm just set in my old school ways though.
Well they haven't really officially announced it, I suspect this community manager guy wasn't supposed to mention this. The game's just gone gold so I imagine they'll probably be starting work on the DLC properly over the coming weeks, which is totally fine.
May as well give the employees something to do rather than pay them to sit and wait for the discs to be pressed.
I hope they aren't going to get crap because they just said there's going to be 'something'. It's not like they officially announced three sets of expensive dlc already planned to release just a few weeks after the game is out :/
I have no idea if it's story related or just to add some activity to the world.
maybe you play as a freaker.😅huh what did you say greg.you heard me dog .word up son
As long as it doesn't require you to restart the game like the add-ons to Horizon and Bloodborne do.
@roe what?
Didn't they previously show some kind of special survival maps separate from the main game?
I'f i'm remembering correct these were some kind of puzzle maps, where you have to build traps by using the environments to kill a certain amount of enemy's.
If it's something like that, i'm ok with it.
@ThaBEN I'm sure that's just how the main game plays with the horde
@ellsworth004 the DLC for Bloodborne and Horizon added story sections that you could only really access half way through the main stories. Because of that I haven't gone back to Horizon and only managed to do Bloodborne cuz I played it late.
@carlos82
Yeah but the main game is open world. What i refer to where separete survival/challenge maps which you could immeadiatly load and retry once you've failed them.
Kinda like Gears of War, where you have a "campaign mode" and a separete "Horde mode", where the latter are the challenge maps that i mentioned. Once completed one of these maps you probably get a medal or score and return to the main menu.
@roe That isn't true. I beat Horizon in April of 2017, and I used the same save file to play the DLC later that year.
@ThaBEN I know what you're getting at but I haven't seen such a thing mentioned for this game
@Octane fair enough, I guess I'm remembering it wrong but I was under the impression that the ideal time to play the DLC was around half way through the game.
@roe You have got it wrong for Bloodborne too. I got to the last boss in the main game and was able to start the old Hunters DLC. You don't have to restart the game and to unlock it is way before the half way mark. If have restarted the game it is after the third boss.
@roe no that is not true at all. Horizons was pretty hard, better left for after u beat the game, pretty much same with bloodborne.
@JohnnyShoulder but if you'd have finished the last boss, you'd have to do the DLC on new game + which makes it harder
@carlos82
I believe it was a part of the Demo displayed @PAX South 2019

Regardless, my main point is that often adding DLC to open world games like this just doesn't really work, at least for me.
I tend to prefer story expansion DLC like HorizonZD got, so I'd be happy for that to be the case. I think pre-announcing DLC is fine when it's a proper expansion which hasn't actually been made yet.
@MistressTonberry I actually prefer multiplayer DLC or challenge maps in this case; that way I don't feel like I'm missing out when I'm playing the main campaign
@Octane Haha, I don't stray into the multiplayer realm often, but I'm fine with MP DLC for the majority who do; I reckon Days Gone could produce some good MP if they follow The Last of Us' formula for example...might end up tempting me to renew my PS Plus! As for challenge maps, then I really enjoyed them in the Arkham series, even though I was late to the party playing all of those games. I definitely want this game, but still undecided on the preorder, because like you suggest it can be annoying when story dlc is woven into the main campaign at a later date.
I'm an open world fan but still not sure about this game. If there's ever any game that needs more and more DLCs it should be GoW, beat the game and didn't even use a quarter of all abilities, talismans or enhancements acquired.
I'm fine with that if it's anywhere near as good as Horizon's.
I like that they revealed some DLC is coming but they aren’t shoving it down our throats.
They should make reverse Battle Royale. Pick a large part of the map, everyone starts in a building in the middle with no weapons. First one out of the map wins. Cooperation allowed as it’s mostly about escaping the freakers. Keep it to about a dozen players a match to keep it reasonable.
@ThaBEN yeah that demo does make it look seem like that, I have seen an extended demo of one of those encounters and then it appeared as if it was built into the main game. It would be pretty cool to have a mode just for this though such as the horde mode from Gears, we'll just have to wait and see
@OMG_Waffles Well, DLC was announced for Spider-Man before the release of the game and it turned out to be pretty good, plus fairly priced. Don't see the problem with post launch DLC plans.
It's mummies. It's always mummies when it's under wraps.
“the campaign will be complete on launch day”
Really we should always expect that to be the case when paying full price. These days we act like it’s some kind of bonus if a game’s complete which is bananas!
@Dodoo Yeah but i understand the response if you read how many say something about a game before even knowing whats going on. 😁
If it is ADDITIONAL content that keeps the game going after completion, the more the better. If it’s anything that should have been in the original game, nope.
