There’s plenty to be excited about in Days Gone, but its snow simulation may just be the most realistic ever. On the surface, there’s not much to this video: it consists of six minutes of Deacon St. John standing out in the cold. But if you let it play, you’ll notice how the scene gradually begins to change, as snow sticks to the ground and slowly starts to pile up.
It’s impressive technology without any shadow of a doubt, and we’re probably not breaking any embargoes when we say that rain acts in a similar way. Even neater is that the weather actually has an affect on gameplay, with snow muffling the protagonist’s footsteps and even altering the behaviour of enemies. Nifty stuff, no?

That's crazy, lol.
The fact it has an affect on the gameplay is even neater.
days of snow is gone.word up son.90 on metacritic. that's a fact black word up son
This dynamic weather system eases my concern about the quality of the game. Bring on Friday
That’s cool.
GET IT?!
You know nothing St John.
It's golden snow you want to watch out for.
Are we sure it isn't just flakes of decayed zombie skin floating in the breeze?
Yea I watched this the other day, simply amazing!
Days Gone is going to do very well.
Call Mr. Plow,
That's my name,
That name again
Is Mr. Plow.
Also seen a play through where it started pouring with rain, there was a big section in the road that had a big hole, the player stood there and watched as it filled up with water, was very cool.
That is seriously impressive stuff. There’s no doubt that the game is a looker, I just hope it has the gameplay to match.
I'm still blown away by how good the forests look. Most games can't do forests that look that lush.
My panties are soaking wet, give me this game already
That's snow joke
... Seriously though it looks pretty darn good!
@Nightcrawler71 If i'm being honest the melee combat is probably not the best, but its not the end of the world.
The gun play, especially fighting against the hordes looks so fun and scary.
I watched some one play the sawmill horde mission, the one that was shown at e3 and man does it look it awesome, looks even better now.
Each snowflake weights 2,3 MB so this explain the 20 GB day one patch.
So cool!
Sammy what can you tell us about the game already? Is it a top tier exclusive? Or is it really repetitive? I know you won't say anything but at least I tried lol
All that snow and not a single flake on Deac.
@MrMagoot Yeah, it's very cool. I think we'll start seeing more of this, particularly next-gen.
@nookie_egg There's definitely snow that settles on Deacon.
Horizon had some pretty realistic snow as well. Can't wait for Friday 👌🏽
WOW... Glad the holidays were this past week. I do not need to go anywhere next weekend. 😃
Would be cool if you could lie on the ground, get eventually completely covered in snow, and then do a stealth attack when an enemy walks by. Probably the most tedious way of attacking in the history of gaming, but also very satisfying.
Looks on par with GoW snow. Im day one. I was a while ago. Sony is in a groove. Doesnt look to change
Is this the first time on any game ever weather behave like this? To accumulate, change the environment and gameplay at real-time. Impressive stuff for studio bend first console game in years.
Super cool but i just hope the fps can keep up. Nothing ruins a game more for me than poor choppy frame rate. Even 30fps kinda bugs me especially during anything high speed..... Like turning my view lol
Impressive. I can hear my Pro's jet engine of a fan already!
@Matroska I'd love to see stealth attacks using the environment, hopefully they included such a feature.
@Warspite2901 uch. I really hope this isn't a "shake the whole damn house" game as the fan on mine is ridiculous for some games.
I still haven't finished God of War because it makes the fan so loud
So cool. Next-gen games will have enemies able to track you by the footprints left in the snow I bet.
@playstation1995 Hope your right .Word up Sunny.
Can I make snow angels?
That's cool. I think no game has ever made snow as well as Horizon Zero Dawn but this could come close. God of war also had realistic snow effects, though not as good as Horizon.
(Yes, I'm the kind of gamer that spends more time rolling in the snow or jumping in and out of the water to see if they're well done than actually playing the game
On the subject, nobody makes water as well as Ubisoft does. Between AC Origins, Odyssey and Watch Dogs 2 they've made the best looking, more realistic water in any game. )
I'm still looking forward to Days Gone though, regardless of snow and water
My copy was dispatched today... I'm really, really hoping it arrives tomorrow.
@andreoni79 Funny complaint looking at your avatar. I that patch was bigger and that was a expansion. 😁
@JohnnyBastos Maybe in the cameramode. 😁
I have high hopes for this game, I hope I didn't puck up pre-ordering it...
I've not been impressed by much in this game so far, but the technology and the thought behind this snow technology is something I've not seen before. It goes from no covering to looking like a christmas card in real time. Pretty amazing work there devs.
