A creative director at Ubisoft has prompted the publisher to release a public statement shooting down hopes of a new Splinter Cell, after he caused the Internet to explode by drunkenly Tweeting that he's working on a new instalment in the popular stealth property. At the Ubi Summit, an intoxicated Julian Gerightly told his followers that he's busy beavering away on the next episode in Sam Fisher's escapades -- forcing his parent company to explain.

"Julian was obviously joking as Julian likes to do," a spokesperson said. "It looks like our creative directors are having fun right now. We do not have any announcements to make at this time." A cruel outcome, then -- but an amusing one nonetheless.

Yeah, joking. Of course he was, Ubisoft - we all believe you.
Hm, we'll see. There's been a lot of talk about Splinter Cell recently and it seems far more than just a drunken slip up imo. Seems like a ''low-key'' tactic to get fans all hyped up.
It's taking so long cause they trying to figure out how to make it an always online, multiplayer, open world shooter, with "light" stealth elements.....
If you read the tweet it is fairly obvious its a joke.... People see one thing and just stop reading and get hyped like the nutcases they are.
@RoyalGuard don't forget the RPG elements.
The whole tweet is clearly a joke. I normally get fired when I tweet spoilers...
Because Ubisoft are shining examples of honesty.
@bruhman splinter cell blacklist.was a great game.it was released in 2013.so I don't know what are you talking about.one of the best games I ever play.word up son
Loved Splinter Cell back in the day with Pandora Tomorrow & Chaos Theory ps2 era. Unfortunately I fear a Far Cry/AC open world crossed with rainbow six multiplayer if they did it now.
Same reason I fear we'll never see another Rayman & Beyond Good & Evil 2 is more looking more like an MMO than a sequel like the scrapped last gen version was.
That's alot of typing for someone who was allegedly drunk.
@GamerDad66
U can say dat that again. If a creative director can type this with all the hash tags while drunk, I wonder what kind of game he is making. Probably a drunken master game, definitely not splinter cell. DieKaiser92.. Ouut!!!
I believe Ubisoft as much as I believe all there E3 trailers or game play videos are the final product
