Who here remembers ActRaiser? A game from early in the life of the SNES, it combined 2D side-scrolling action with top down city-building strategy. It's an interesting combination that made for a very unique title back at the start of the nineties, but it's one that hasn't been seen much since. Out of seemingly nowhere, SEGA has announced SolSeraph, a modern take on the formula coming soon to PS4.
As you can see in the above trailer, the new title, developed by ACE Team, features action platforming and overhead tactical gameplay very reminiscent of Quintet's classic, but obviously brought up to date on modern hardware. Playing as some sort of powerful being, you'll be cutting down monsters one minute, then building up defences and progressing a settlement the next. Legendary video game composer Yuzo Koshiro has produced some music for the game, just as he did for ActRaiser.
SolSeraph is coming to PS4 on 10th July 2019. What do you think of it? Do you fondly remember ActRaiser? No need to get defensive in the comments below.

I heard actraiser although I never played it, looks interesting, I get it if the reviews is good. The running animation is a bit weird though.
ActRaiser was fantastic! I still own the SNES version. The sequel was disappointing, but I’m cautiously optimistic for this.
I loved to play ActRaiser back in the day and I’m totally looking forward to this.
I loved Terranigma by the same studio that did Actraiser but it doesn't look much like this.
Nice! Looks good!
The first was a fantastic hybrid of genres and a launch title on the SNES, the second was mediocre straight action, no build phases. I've dreamt of some sort of pantheistic multi-player version, like The Wicked + The Divine as a playable time-line, but this will do as well.
Actraiser 1 was one of my fav snes games! The visuals, sounds and music were incredible. Very unique game. Im interested in this but its too bad it doesnt retain the actraiser visual identity. It looks like a generic mobile game. Just has that bland forgettable look.
@wiiware if you every have a chance to play the original Actraiser. I highly recommend it. The game is a lot of fun and has aged well. This Sega release from "ACE" looks really cool. His running animation does look a bit goofy however it looks like they did a nice job overall.
Good to see they are bringing in the city building bits. ActRaiser 2 was just the side scrolling action parts which were my least favoerite part of the first game.
