We get it, the month of June is all about dreaming big. As the biggest video game event of the year rolls around, it's a chance to take a peek into the future as some of the most interesting games are announced and shown off to the masses. However, E3 2019 is a weird one. With some companies skipping the show entirely, these are the things you shouldn't expect to happen this time around.
Sony Making an Appearance During E3 2019
The very company we write most about, Sony, confirmed that it won't be attending E3 2019 in any shape or form all the way back in November last year. It was a real shock to the system, with the Japanese giant confirming it "will not activate or hold a press conference around E3”.
Despite that, some internet forums are hoping Sony gets cold feet and hastily puts together a State of Play livestream. The Last of Us: Part II fuelled those discussions with rumours of a big reveal last week, but they appear to have been squashed as the right time for an announcement most certainly came and went. We think it's very safe to say that you should not expect any sort of PlayStation-centric news out of E3 2019. Multi-platform games coming to PS4? Yes, most definitely. PS4 exclusives? You'll need to wait a while longer.
The Elder Scrolls VI and Starfield
Funnily enough, we told you not to expect an announcement of The Elder Scrolls VI in last year's edition of this very feature, and yet Bethesda surprised us all with a short teaser trailer. However, Todd Howard himself has stated that neither The Elder Scrolls VI or Starfield will be a part of the publisher's showcase this time around.
We were already pretty certain that both of these titles would be next-gen games, but their absences for 2019 all but confirm that. It's not going to be until at least 2020 before we get a proper look at either one, and with the PS5 on the horizon, you're going to need to buy a new console before purchasing a copy of Starfield.
Major Hardware Reveals for the Next Generation
Microsoft is going to need an answer to Sony's small PS5 reveal back in April, but we think the hardware manufacturer is still going to keep its cards very close to its chest. Neither the PlayStation 5 or the next Xbox are expected to launch until the end of 2020, meaning there's a lot of time in between now and then. We've even got another E3 to go after next week!
As such, don't expect anything major to come out of Microsoft's E3 press conference. We reckon there'll be some sort of teaser video, similar to what it did for Xbox One X at E3 2016, but not a lot more than that. Maybe it'll show off Halo Infinite on the new system, as a way to one-up Sony and get some actual footage out there? We don't know what Phil Spencer has planned, but we'd be very surprised if the company goes any further than what PlayStation revealed just two months ago.
A Good Showing from EA
EA has always had the worst press conference at E3 for quite some time now, so much so that the publisher has decided to ditch the stage show altogether this year in favour of a day's worth of livestreaming focused on a few particular games.
Those games will be Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Apex Legends, Battlefield V, sports titles, and The Sims 4. The publisher leaves enough room for a small amount of hope for new game announcements by stating: "For all EA Play content throughout the weekend, including exclusive gameplay reveals, trailers and breaking news, be sure to stay locked to EA.com." Maybe there'll be one or two reveals, but it doesn't look like EA is setting itself up for something akin to a Mass Effect Trilogy announcement at the show. That's something that would surely demand a true stage presence.
Is there anything else we shouldn't expect to show up at E3 2019? Temper our expectations in the comments below.

The lack of a PS conference makes this E3 very very weak...
But oh well I hope you guys have live chat for all conferences, Microsoft included
@AFCC We will. It's a very strange one for us this year, though. Very strange.
Sammy not talking about Taylor Swift anymore.thats what I'm not expecting😒.haha word up son
I want sleeping dogs.bioshock 4.max Payne 4.bully 2.manhunt 3.dragon age 4.dead space 4.capcom arcade collection.neo Geo arcade collection.odin sphere 2.syphon filter remake.demon souls remaster.rayman 3. resistance 4.but it ain't happening.word up son
Now you've mentioned these things, I'll be eagerly expecting all of them at E3
There's only one thing that I'm interested in, when it comes to E3, and that's reports about HALO Reach for PC.
I can't wait for September to happen. That's a bit dramatic. Of course I can wait.
I do find it very odd that we all in this day and age (myself included) care more about news than actual content. You could argue that reveals and trailers and spoilers and discussion videos actually drain us of excitement by the time the product finally arrives. Even something like Game Of Thrones had so much speculation and investigation that we had all built up a story 10 times greater in our heads than what we got.
Personally I think we need to shorten the hype schedule and if Sony haven’t got anything to sell to us, we should just accept that. I would much prefer the PS5 to arrive with something worthwhile to play from the get go than potential and cutscene trailers.
Can we still do the annual E3 quiz anyway?
@get2sammyb yeah for me too...it's kinda sad isn't it? It feels like something is missing! But at the same time they would probably have an ok conference like last year so it's for the better, I hope they do go to E3 next year or I guess E3 will slowly start dying
@crimsontadpoles Haha I'd love to be wrong on all four of them!
While I loved the Sims when I was much younger, I have to say I hate the business model. I remember reading at one point that, for one of the entries in the series, to have bought every expansion pack for that entry new, at full price, you would have shoveled out over 1000 dollars!
I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little bummed Sony won't be doing a conference. I always liked to watch the stream (at a decent time as I live in the states)
While it certainly is a bummer Sony won't be there, im still super excited for e3 this year. Outside of Bethesda and whatever Digital Devolver is going to do, I'm looking forward to all of the conferences.
Sounds like Nintendo is the only one with a potentially huge e3. Wish Sony would at least do a SoP but I'm glad for more info on FF7.
Of course B(ug)ethesda aren't gonna show off Elder Scrolls VI yet! After what happened with Fallout 76, they need to make sure the ps5 exclusive backward flying Dragon's animations are working 100%
@redd214 you dont like DD's e3 stuff?
I honestly would like Sony to do their own thing every year and stay away from E3. I know they'll be back though, no worries.(but I'd rather they don't come back)
I'm just being selfish and prefer more meaningful events rather than one big where everything need to be concentrated. It's like Too big a meal to swallow. Specially not being in the US.
Besides I genuinely believe the press was doing a poor job of covering it. I mean covering E3. Not just the conference and clickbaiting fest of who won E3 despite only considering pre E3 conferences.
I don't count how many times I saw reported Days Gone was not at E3 BS. Yea even without counting trailer and demo, they completely dismiss whatever is revealed just before E3.. remember live stream events literally minutes before the conference? Like , not at the conference so it doesn't count crap. How idiotic is that?
Back to reality is better
Sorry for the rant Haha
So Knack 3 confirmed, right?
@Octane that is for next year when they reveal the ps5.
It will be a launch game.
@jdv95 The Last of Knack.
I've started calling this year's show "E2", since one of the "big three" isn't going to be there. I'm still intrigued to see what Microsoft come out with - think they're going to really push this year so could be one of the strongest showings in a while from them. Nintendo should have a couple of highlights as well. But it's definitely less exciting without Sony as those are the games I'm looking forward to most of all. Hope we get another State of Play soon.
@ellsworth004 not really my kind of comedy but I'm glad people enjoy what they do
I tried a quick search but has an article been put together of all the conferences start times ?
I’m not sure where to look for one
@B-I-G-DEVIL I believe @Quintumply is working on that.
@LiamCroft
Sweet , makes life so much easier having one 😂
I only watched it for Sony & Ubisoft but mainly Sony. MS I can never fully watch always the corniest out of them all I feel.
FF7 and Evil Within 3 would make my E3 just dandy, and one of those is confirmed.
What to expect at E3 this year...TOTAL BORDOM Well if SONY are not there it will be BORING :-/ Oh well.
@redd214 so you arent looking forward to Bethesda or Devolver? Why not Devolver? They publish straight up bangers
@Nyne11Tyme Bethesdas games just don't really appeal to me. I love some of Devolvers games, their presentations however just aren't my cup of tea but I appreciate them doing something different.
Excitement Well SONY won't be there so this year it will be BORING :-/
"What You Shouldn't Expect at E3 2019"
Anything worthwhile.
@playstation1995 big ups for Manhunt 3, or even a Manhunt remaster. Dreams would be made.
@j_Colgy manhunt was a great series.word up son
