Alongside Death Stranding's gameplay reveal, Hideo Kojima took to the stage at Gamescom Opening Night Live to introduce a couple of characters we've only gotten glimpses of during previous trailers and footage. They include Mama, the Bridge Baby that Norman Reedus' character carries, and Guillermo del Toro's Deadman.
Both trailers are in-game cutscenes that we'll get to check out for ourselves in person once the game launches in November, with the first focusing on Mama and the awkward relationship she shares with her baby daughter. The other discusses the idea behind the Bridge Baby and why they must be housed in pods.
Both are equally as fascinating as the other, but they're more supplemental to the main attraction of the night which was, of course, the extended slice of gameplay that wrapped up Gamescom Opening Night Live. Some would say that the entire night was leading up to these few moments, and we're inclined to agree.

At least del Toro's voice wasn't as jarring to hear as Refn's.
