Remember when Sony removed Death Stranding from a page on its website listing exclusive games? This, along with the absence of an ‘Only on PlayStation’ tag on its official box art, prompted fierce speculation about the nature of the release’s exclusivity. Well, that debate has now been revived, as practically every image of the title at Gamescom 2019 is plastered with ‘Exclusive for PS4’ icons.
What does it all mean, then? Well, it’s like we said back when this debate originally started: the Japanese giant is just really inconsistent with these labels. We still reckon the title will probably launch on PC and PS5 next November, but for now it’s a PS4 exclusive and that’s not really up for debate. We’re sure the discussion will rumble on regardless, though…

The decima engine is exclusive....so by proxy (I'm just joking, I know nothing. )
Sony owns the game so there was never any doubt about it being exclusive to PS4. A PS5 port could happen but a PC release won't and you can not claim it will.
"We still reckon the title will probably launch on PC"
You can not reckon anything since you don't work for Sony.
Ik JaytechTV And MBG are prob really happy if it’s a full exclusive and never coming to PC.
@Derpie1 JayTech be roasting PC fanboys lol. Every time I am on Twitch I see them port begging in the comments.
@GodGamer it’s a guilty pleasure... I’ll admit. Since he screams a certain term but hey he can be whatever he wants to be
Least someone on this site knows who Jaytech is...
@GodGamer this site been suckin up to pc lately, if sony say to kojima that he cant use decima engine to pc then kojima cant port it regardless who owns the ip
@GodGamer I'm not saying it will happen, I'm just saying I personally think it might. We've seen Sony isn't all that bothered about some games launching on PC and it could have been part of the contract. Some kind of Definitive Edition on PS5 and PC a year after the original PS4 release doesn't seem all that crazy.
The only real curveball in all this is the Decima Engine. Not sure how much work would need to be done to optimise that for PC, as it's obviously designed to make the most of PlayStation hardware.
It was Kojima trolling us all along.
My wife has completely taken over the PS4, so I’ve been stuck with my PC and Switch for the past couple years...that’s why I want a PC port, lol! Not to mention that even my old laptop runs certain newer games better than the base PS4 (which I have), so unless I got a PS4 Pro, that would be a less than optimal experience anyway for Kojima’s ladder-climbing masterpiece.
Without exclusives, consoles would be pointless, pc fans need to stop port begging and just buy a playstation 4 or wait for playstation 5.
And please don't give me the old "I'm not buying a console just for one game routine" Its funny these same people will buy a Nintendo switch though just to play exclusives.
@JayDub No necessarily for e.g. - Consoles can still provide different content & support of other things besides 'Exclusives'. Yes i can understand exclusivity for 1-2 yrs at most but after that point neither exclusivity does anything for games & neither games do much for consoles except increasing sales of consoles by 10% at best.
Consoles still get preference for first releases, beta tests etc & that can continue since PC market while has large user base but is largely fragmented due to diversity of games & choices. That's the reason why it depends upon innovation & support from it's user base unlike consoles which depend upon publishers to create great first party experiences.
Thus consoles & PC's can help in their own ways to help lesser known games & innovation to get recognition.
Not everybody can buy every gaming machine but everybody buys PC {esp. in developing world} & that's the only option that many people can exercise if they are interested in gaming. Just imagine that the largest group of people who can't experience 'Uncharted 4' or 'Asura's Wrath' reside in India & Nepal whose religions were central to the themes of these games.
Consoles are adding extra features which further diversifies the need to see consoles as a single gaming unit instead we can see consoles as a multitasking machine {Streaming, Gaming & content playing machine} as we move forward which will further diminish the requirement of permanent exclusive games. Exclusivity hurts gaming in the long run while making gaming accessible to the widest possible audience helps it in the long run.
Exclusives are great for companies, but I don't see why gamers/consumers want that exclusivity though. It doesn't benefit us at all.
Exclusivity hurts gaming.................. It doesn't benefit us at all...............
Oh dear god, my head hurts.
It won't really matter to me tbh, I'm just looking forward to playing it. And anyway, if the spec rumours are true once the PS5 is here most PC gamers will no longer be able to bang on about being the master race as only the very top end PC's will be more powerful, and the majority of PC gamers don't own a top end PC. Games on the PS5 will look and run nigh on identical to anything else available.
I'd rather have one dedicated system than all that nonsense to be honest.
I still don't understand why people promote one platform over another. PC's fulfil one sector of the market, Consoles another, mobile devices another etc. If there is a platform it is because there is a market for it. I am not a PC gamer because I don't have the time or inclination for the outlay on a rig, upgrading or space really. I like consoles. I have a friend who just likes playing basic games on his iPad and nothing else. Also fine.
In a lot of ways, exclusives are bad for the consumer. They tie you into an ecosystem, by design, and often from a financial perspective, excludes you from other eco-systems. At the same time, they allow funding of prestige games that we wouldn't get otherwise. I mean, how many console (or PC exclusives) are considered some of the best games ever? Quite a lot actually. They are really a by product of a capitalist system. You need to create demand for your product. Even PC isn't exempt from this. Epic games wants in on the action, hence the exclusives for Epic which require using their services. Steam holds dominance and many people feel tied to that as their launcher.
What we are seeing now though is the breaking down of this traditional exclusives etc. Margins on hardware (at least for Sony and MS) are low. Subscription services are where the money is. A regular subscriber paying X amount every month is worth more than someone that may or may not buy an exclusive game. Therefore, you are going to see more cross platform games. We have seen several Playstation games that are console exclusive go to PC. Xbox has completely embraced the PC market. I could see a situation where Sony services are device agnostic and the same with Xbox and maybe even Nintendo. Consoles will still be produced and marketed, but they won't be the only way to get those titles. Don't forget, I can play Bloodborne on PC via PS Now. A pure Sony exclusive.
// I could see a situation where Sony services are device agnostic and the same with Xbox and maybe even Nintendo. //
That's the main point Exclusives can still be produced to add value to the ecosystem but making them device agnostic after a certain period would actually help games as well as gamers from the arbitrary restrictions of these devices.
As I tell all of my lady friends, of course we're exclusive.
@JayDub if exclusives weren't a thing then everyone could just get a pc and then consoles would be done. Console gaming is what started the gaming craze after arcades and made it possible for everyone to have it at home. Exclusives make gaming better because if everyone is fighting to make the best exclusive for their platform then people will buy the platform to play it if it's good enough. Like Spiderman or the last of us. These exclusives make companies compete more and help sell consoles anden they keep consoles at a place like PlayStation then everyone will try and beat them by making something better and so the wheel keeps turning and it goes back and forth. This is why we have good exclusives. Well PlayStation. Nintendo will always rely on the same games. Xbox maybe they will figure it out. It helps PlayStation that sony is in the music and film industry as well as electronics so they can make great things easier.
