There are fan trailers – and then there are fan trailers. This outrageous PlayStation 5 render is the work of Giuseppe Spinelli, and frankly we reckon it’s better than anything Sony will eventually cook up. It’s both a mix of fantasy and fiction, building on a bunch of facts we already know about the DualShock 5.
Effectively, the video showcases a mock-up of what the next-gen console’s controller could be like. It’s both slick and amusing, and we had to mop up a small pool of drool once we reached the end of its running time. Some of the hypothetical features shared here include removable back triggers and interchangeable analogue sticks.
Look, this isn’t an official video, but if Sony can top this mock-up then we’re in for something very, very special indeed.

Yeah, that’s a whole lot cooler than the real one’s going to be. Sony won’t want removable sticks and triggers because if they break, they’ll want consumers to buy new £50 controllers instead of parts.
Waited 2 minutes to see them smash some Doritos in to it. Disappointed.
I predict Sony will just release a minuscule evolution of its PS4 controller and continue to insist on the divided up d-pad instead of using that absolutely sublime PSVita d-pad they showed on the prototype design. Until the “feedback” they received from all the wall planters who will obviously only ever recommend mild variations of what they had in the past rather than anything new because they have the farsighted of a blind person wearing a balaclava with the hole accidentally not cut out. So forgive me if I hold little excitement for the PS5 controller. Sheesh I had even more excitement for the dang PS3 batarang!
Dino Crisis? Dead Space 4? Metal Gear Solid Remastered? Wow, this is a pipe dream.
Take notes Sony and also add a touch screen instead of a touch pad for some indie action but that probably too much and just a dream
I want a foldable dance mat built into the controller or I'm not interested
Well I prefer a real controller than a fantasy video 😏🤷♂️
That was amazing. Sony should just buy the video and redesign the controllers to look like that and just use the video for marketing
Holy s***!! Lol that was awesome!!
As someone who uses those rubber nubs on my right analog stick I would LOOOOOOOVE swappable analog sticks, regular and then some that sit higher up for added precision in shooters.
impressive video. even if i don't buy PS5 at launch, i'd buy that controller for PS4.
New PlayStation plus news coming soon from Sony as well. Apparently we’ll get two games and a catalog of 50 games(few games will rotate each month).
If only he'd have done this in dreams...
50 hours battery life?! 1 year PS+ included?!
Hah! Dream on...
These things are just not plausible, and thus (for me) hinder the believability of the render (which otherwise is very well done).
Still has horrible Options/Share buttons and a pointless touchpad hogging a bunch of controller real estate, so I'm not really impressed.
@Loki7T1 To be honest, I'd believe that sort of package for a separately sold Elite controller. A PS+ sub would probably do a lot to nudge more dedicated PS fans to the thing, and, as regards the battery life, even the Switch Pro Controller gets around 40 hours of use on a single charge, so I don't see it as being THAT out there that a premium controller could last even longer.
With them taking so long to reveal the system, there is only bound to be disappointment at this rate.
What's with that 50 hour claim? My DS4 hasn't died once since launch, why would I want one that'll die before the week is out?
*Yes, I'm aware, it was sarcasm. Truth is, a rechargable battery is nothing to complain about but many have made it an issue this generation (here as well if they're putting it on the box) from their own stupidity. Apparently they play on the roof or something and only bring enough extension cords for the tv/PS4. If you want to complain about anyone, why haven't you destroyed Microsoft with it's continued reliance on AA batteries, and overcharging you for not only the controller with less features than the DS4, but also for a compatible rechargable battery?
Just a shame the DS5 looks nothing like that.
I know because I've seen it, I've played with it.
ohhhhh would love it if this was the real one - we should petition sony to at least make one like this available as an "elite" controller
wow if thats the new controller pad sign me up at last looks like they have sorted it.
@nessisonett I dont know but maybe they dont want to make the standard controllers a €100 plus. Not everyone has that kind of money. I find €60 enough but i would not mind these controllers either.
@Ralizah I have no problems with the share button or the touchpad. 😆
All these way too cool mock-ups are gonna make the actual thing such a huge disappointment lol.
Why are people on every part of the internet so dumb and feel the need to make dumb comments. The guy made an amazing video, and obviously it’s fake. This isn’t made by Sony people, so stop saying “Sony would never do this or that” it’s supposed to be exaggerated!! Everyone chill out and give this man some damn credit that he deserves for making an insanely awesome video!
That's maximum intensity for a controller commercial, real or not. Now I need to search up how it was made
Its amazing someone put in that much thought and work into designing an perfect world controller and giving it a slick release trailer just for the fun of it. Can't say Sony will be pleased though as I'm sure it will outshine the real thing in both function and presentation.
they won’t struggle because this was a very basic reveal and sony always finds ways to go above and beyond (for better or for worse). it’s to be expected by this point and saying that some random basic fan made reveal online is doing a better job kinda comes off as like, idk, a bit of a big stretch?
Very well made, and funny too. Some features would be incredible to have in the controller.
Normally not too impressed by this kind of thing but that really was excellent. Felt like Sony's classic designs mixed with the build quality of Microsoft's design lab controllers. Would absolutely love something like this, minus those truly horrible back trigger things.
@FX102A The Vita dpad is the dpad of the GODS
Regardless of how close or not that is to the DS5, if I was Sony I’d be wanting this guy on the team. Very impressively done!
