PlayStation 4 exclusive Ghost of Tsushima now has a confirmed release date. The confirmation comes out of nowhere -- we were just sitting here thinking this was turning out to be an incredibly quiet Thursday, but Sony has once again proven that it can drop a bomb whenever it wants.
Ghost of Tsushima will strike from the shadows on the 26th June, 2020. It's also nabbed a brand new story trailer, which we've embedded above. The title continues to look fantastic, and now that it has a release date, we'll no doubt be seeing much more of it over the coming weeks and months.

Alright, my birthday month.
Holy april, may and june!
May and June are going to be great!
The 2ΒΊ quarter of 2020 is going to be a blast for PS4.
Seems like a great release date, should be a big summer hit.
@ShogunRok It's Sucker Punch, of course is out of nowhere.
@HungryWolf Haha living up to the name!
Still not really shown much gameplay I am just hoping its not Dark Souls combat. I was expecting a state of play to show it off and announce the release date.
Ooooh ok yes please. That'll do nicely.
My body is ready!
@HungryWolf you win today
I got it right about the main character: he's a samurai that becomes a ninja after the massacre of his people.
WOW!!!!... amazing! Day 1
This is what I love about PlayStation. Big games, all the time... it rains new AAA games.
No waiting, No begging.
@vhsodre my Tenchu is ready
Inject this game right into my veins
@bindiana I'm hoping it is Dark Souls combat or inspired by it, since the Soulsbourne's have the best combat out there
Yessssssss!! So excited for this. I cant believe the new year previews on some websites said 2020 looked like a poor year for Sony. Madness! Reinforces me limiting future purchases to FF7, LOU2, GoT, Cyberpunk and Yakuza 7 (maybe Resi 3 too) though. This year is insane
Awesome trailer. It still looks amazing.
Nice, just 3 more month, can't wait for this game
@ChineseJames In your opinion Souls comabt is the best in my opinion is dull and has been done to death.
Now this made my day π
My most hyped games for the ps4.its the π» ghost playa.ghost of tsushima will get a 91 on metacritic.word up son
Well, thatβs weird as can be. TLOU2 and Ghost of Tsushima releasing less than a month apart.
Love the new trailer. Can't wait to play this one
@ShogunRok "Ghost of Tsushima Release Date Confirmed for June 2020"
Could you really not fit a 26 in the title or was that omission just to get people to click on it to find out when it was, like people weren't going to click on it already?
Ghost of Tsushima Release Date Confirmed for June 26, 2020
To make room you could have dropped the 2020, I'm pretty sure people would have figured that part out. If not, well you don't want people like that here anyway.
Ghost of Tsushima Release Date Confirmed for June 26
My son graduates from high school that day, then big party in our house for 40 people that weekend, so as much potential as I see in this game it will have to wait until at least the following Monday.
Though if it's anything like Souls as some people are suggesting I'm out. I'm hoping it's more along the lines of the Onimusha games in difficulty. Fun shouldn't have to be nerve-wracking.
@bindiana There are surprisingly few games that have managed to copy the combat well and it's also one of the few combat systems that actually requires you think about the combat rather than just button mash to death. It also a very deep combat system that has a huge amount of variety and is incredibly satisfying to play which makes it one of the best combat systems out there.
That's how you go out with a BANG!!
Seriously what a generation this has been.
@Quintumply Didn't realize it was a new trailer, thanks for the heads up.
Still hard to determine the game play. I'd really like a proper sequel to Genji since the 2nd one was so so bad, not even taking into account the historically accurate giant crabs, but that's just wishful thinking. Maybe Sucker Punch has found a balance between difficult boss fights but letting us have some fun along the way? One can hope.
releasing so close to last of us part 2 is surprising to me. i thought sony would allow 3 months for them to breath. might not matter at the end of the day, but it does feel like tsushima could lose some attention as the media will clearly be focused on last of us 2 accolades leading into tsushima's launch. september would be far more fitting. also, please show us some more gameplay footage.... it has been two years since we saw a non-cinematic trailer.
Well that's woken me up on a sleepy Thursday afternoon! Ghost of Tsushima continues to look utterly incredible. FF7 in April, TLoU2 in May and this in June? That's one hell of a way for Sony to sign off before PS5 arrives. What a lineup. And I need all three.
@JoeBlogs The thing with JediFallen Order as well is that it's also pretty different from the Souls and Bloodborne, instead taking more from Sekiro. Fallen Order worked because it was built around the easier difficulty, so much so that the harder difficulties suffered because of it.
This is awesome! That trailer has me so hyped!
I can't handle it. The PS4 is certainly going out with a bang!
My guess, July unveiling of PS5.
So hyped for this game. Seriously, it looks insanely good in every way.
I'm gonna skip any future trailers on this from now until release.. Already buying the game, so I don't need any more.
With this, Dreams, TLoU2, and FF7 Remake to name a few, the PS4 really is going out with a bang this year.
@JoeBlogs yeah, if it took some inspiration from Dark Souls but did its own thing, I think that would probably be the best option, especially since it seems a bit more grounded than the likes of Nioh and Sekiro.
Yeah, still very pretty.
Yeah, still dubious about the gameplay. I still need convincing that it's going to be something other than a very pretty hack-n-slash. Unless they show more, I won't even consider this until I've watched some gameplay on YouTube after release.
Nice, albeit a rather expensive couple or so months coming up for ps4 owners! Just don't know how the eurogamer folks will cope reviewing this one....you know ever since the E3 reveal where they kept insisting it had to be ps5 footage!
Jesus Christ, Sony, how much time do you think I have in the middle of the year?!
...but yeah, it looks good. I'll definitely be picking it up at some point.
Earlier than expected. And people go on about the PR thingy. June? Thats what I call smart delivery...
https://youtu.be/1ENHA4Ue9Nw
Japanese version, for the weebs like me.
Nice to see a heavy hitter releasing in June.
So excited! This is my most anticipated game of the year. I am a huge fan of samurai films and this looks amazing.
@bindiana Watch the E3 2018 Trailer for ~10 minutes of Gameplay
Doom Eternal in 2 weeks, Resi 3 in April, TLOU Part 2 in May, and this in June. Love it.
@M1359 @shonenjump86 also have a june birthday. I know what my wife is getting me now!
HELL TO THE YEA BABY!
This looks so amazing Iβm def preordering the collectors edition. I have gotten almost every collectors edition of sonys exclusives this gen except for like 2 and they always deliver especially when it comes to the price
Now that is what I call one hell of a trailer.
I was interested before, but now I am positively hyped. Everything about the game is looking like it's going to be great, including the combat, characters, story, and the visuals.
hmm, I'm going to go in ignito for a while till this is released and then watch out for the reviews first. I'm not sure how optimistic people are about the release date though.
@M1359 @ellsworth004
Birthday gifts for all. π
Now it's time for infamous 1 and 2 to be remastered for PS4.
Sony is killing it! this game looks so good! roll on the 26th June this & The Last Of Us 2 then hopefully a fresh PS5 in November going to be a great year guys!
Controversial opinion, but i think this will be better than the last of us 2. It will certainly be Sucker Punch's finest game. What a year
Interesting that the trailer was shown in widescreen. I wonder if the game is formatted like that, similar to The Order 1886.
Looks pretty brilliant, wonder how it will look boosted on ps5?!
Cool, I've just noticed I have a week off when this comes out. Always a bit of an unknown with a new IP but this screams quality for me.
Starting with Doom Eternal later this month it's going to be a nice stretch of releases. Followed by REmake 3 and FF VII in April, The Last of Us Part II in May then capped off with Ghost of Tsushima in June. All these are day one buys.
Mmmmm, I love iiiit.
@rjejr you forgot th, it's the 26th. π
Drop the year but don't forget the th. Lol
from a visual and atmosphere perspective, it looks top notch.. but i just can't shake the feeling that it has a lot of similarities with assassin's creed, and if i never play another AC game it'll be too soon. there's a lot of coverage in the latest official playstation magazine, and it talks about striking fast from the shadows, and stealthily taking out opponents on a 1-on-1 basis, and having to master the "way of the ghost". there's instant 'aerial takedowns', a grappling hook to swing from point to point, extra tools like smoke bombs, sticky grenades, bow and (fire) arrows . some of the stealth stuff seems more ninja than assassin, but the gameplay tropes are fairly similar. there's apparently no waypoints at all, you need to use landmarks and pay attention to whats going (eg: smoke stack in the distance) to navigate, and where you choose to explore affects how the story is experienced, and relationships with NPCs can develop in different ways.. all sounds a bit too ubisoftish to me.
@Dan_ozzzy189 I did debate the "th" but ultimately decided it didn't needed it, it's a date not a street address, you can say "it comes out June 26 but you don't live on 26 street".
@bindiana I don't mind Dark Souls combat, but I just hope it isn't as punishing. I'm just not into those type of games.
Finally something from the company that's gone mute.
That image of all the samurais on top a hill would make a pretty cool wallpaper.
@leucocyte Gadgets/powers are Sucker Punch's if from Sly and inFamous. Navigation and parkour even more so. Stealth is their thing from Sly Cooper big time. While on a much smaller or more linear I should say scale, decisions and consequences are all their thing from inFamous too. It just looks like an evolution from the studio to me honestly. A GOTY candidate.
@vhsodre You actually have two Skill Paths you can take...either Samurai or the "Ghost" Path that is more sneaky
@IonMagus first of all, a samurai can't be a ghost because of the Bushido.
The main character is a samurai until the Mongol invasion. He left the path after that. Even the first trailer indicates that, at the end of the trailer to be more accurate, when part of his armor fades while he wears a mask. Also, I never heard of samurais that use smoke bombs.
