Finally!!! Not that they are doing it. I've been happy for Sony to announce when they are ready. But FINALLY, all the speculation can end, all the rumour mongering, all the mud slinging, all the annoying stuff about how many terraflops will it have and the questions about if it is more or less powerful that series x. FINALLY. All the whingeing can stop. It was boring several months ago. And its even more boring now.

Sony have had this planned for months. They have just been waiting for Microsoft to make the first move it seems, now the full specs are out, it is time for Sony to strike with their 13TF Beast of a machine.

I hope we get some real good info from this and at the very least know how powerful it is, right now MS is boasting the Series X can do Gears 5 at 120fps so yeah Sony need to be firing hard right now because regardless on my thoughts of MS and Xbox they are revealing lots and doing a great job of selling it. Also Sony need to reveal if they have their own version of "Smart Delivery" because they will be taking the p*ss if they expect everyone to buy all the games again when MS are giving Next Gen versions out for free.

I have a meeting ending at 4pm. I am all over this bad boy.

@JJ2 If the 9 Teraflops rumour ends up being true then yeah there's a big chance it most likely wouldn't be able to do 120fps, consoles now even the X1X struggle with 60fps so a console what's only a bit more powerful then the X1X isn't going to be hitting 120fps.

@beavis64 Yes because the PS3 reveal and its first few years were really magical and the Pro was not just some half baked cash grab and the Vita is the biggest handheld ever. Look i love PS but right now the PS4 is top what means Sony are in that cocky stage what the leader always gets like at top, Sony need to step up and not just think they have a free pass because the PS4 is top.

@TheNewButler well the guy that claimed he knew the specs of the ps5 was correct about the xbox series x specs revelead yesterday.

now ofcourse these are just all rumors and should not be taken as fact (neither should the 9TF rumor) so we are all just guessing here.

@TheNewButler i don't think either will be more powerfull than the other.

xbox might have 1 more TF than the ps5 for example but than the ps5 might have a faster SSD. they will balance each other out in that way.

One thing to think about... Could Sony reveal specs for PS5 just a DAY later than MS if their product was weaker?! I don't see it happening, really.

How can Sony came up just now and say "ok, you know, the console revealed just a couple of days ago... yep, that Series X, is better than ours..."

So I bet their all about the same in almost every way, otherwise Sony will be better waiting until the Series X heat dissipates.

I’m also WFH like a good number of people. I’m also really looking forward to this broadcast; I trust Cerny to deliver.

I’m also on a conference call immediately before the broadcast, so I’m going to keep it very brief!!

I am really interest to see Sony's approach to next-gen. I still plan to get both a PS5 and Xbox Series X (on the same day, actually as I am deferring my purchase of each system to see if there are any major defects that need sorting out).

Right now, Microsoft has my attention (mostly because Sony has been so silent). Even if the PS5 ends up being slightly more powerful, Microsoft's approach to legacy software is most interesting, and, to me, a bigger draw.

Yes, I understand the focus should be on the next-generation of games, but the fact that there is still incredible consideration for back catalog games is just cool - especially if there are games people still go back to play on the previous system.

In fact, being able to see the games running using 100% of Series X hardware (even if it's just to stabilize frame rates and resolutions) breathes new life into Xbox One games that may have had some problems maintaining framerates/target resolutions - especially those with Xbox One X enhancements. The ability to enable HDR for old games is also an incredible way to bring old titles back from the dead.

Sony really needs to knock it out of the park with the reveal. We all know it will have great exclusive titles, but I also want to know Sony's plan for cross-generation and backwards compatibility. Honestly, if there are no PS1/PS2 Classics anymore...I am going to be a touch disappointed.

@GamingFan4Lyf well, it's great to be able to run old games with some minor improvements, like resolution and loading times, HDR also... I love old games (or just games, be clear) but 100% of the next gen consoles will be seen in none less than 3 years after the launch, and hopefully those type of games will be really different to what we have now. Those custom SDD (with the memory mapping tricks) and monster CPUs should allow pretty weird stuff in the right hands.

Here we go! As others have pointed, the fact that Sony have announced a reveal so shortly after the full reveal of the Series X would logically suggest that the specs of the PS5 stack up nicely against its competition. I’m expecting the two consoles to be pretty similar in terms of power.

But I am looking forward to seeing some unique features of the PS5 that gives it some differentiation over other next gen consoles. Hype for tomorrow!

My feeling is that Sony wouldn't be going so soon after MS unless they had a system which is at least very similar in spec and capabilities.

I still also feel that they've had a basic system ready to go for a while, and have just been waiting to see what the competition does to know which configuration will be most comparable and cost-effective. Remember, unlike PS3 which was entirely custom, PS4/PS5 are essentially PC components, so in theory things like better CPU and more RAM can just be dropped in.

I really think that the launch date of the PS5 will be postponed.
The coronaVirus is still, and will for a while, affect every county in the world, if not even more time if the virus doesn't mutate again. So even if it's cool to get the info, I know it will be a long time until I get my hands in one.

@jdv95 To be honest, a Silent Hill reboot by Sony would make so excited I'd forget about the PS5.

Knowing this was a GDC planned event Cerny is going to get super deep with specs and maybe we see him use Godfall for display but more like Spider-Man PS4 to display upconvert. I'm not expecting price, date or new game announcement just straight hardware analysis

I think people are looking at it the wrong way. It was planned for GDC (and planned for today afterwards) and its Ms who reacted by dropping in dept video just before.( or more precisely by inviting influencers to make videos)

@JJ2 That’s possible, but with what’s going on globally, I think it would have been understandable if Sony delayed it further apart from the brand new full specs reveal of the Series X, so as to draw less of a comparison between the two specs if they had anything to worry about in that department.

They know that revealing the specs of the PS5 not 48 hours removed from the Series X reveal, that there is going to be a side-by-side comparison of the two in an abundance of articles across the internet. It seems like they are fine with this, and I believe the PS5 will be a beast of a console, similar to the Series X. We will find out in just a matter of hours.

Imo it would be worse if they delay it because xbox dropped videos (and theres no reason. Xbox just wanted some spotlight before) . It would have leaked.
