Solid announcements but probably didn't need an entire 1 hour presentation for it. I can see how others saw it underwhelming considering they spent a long time explaining SSD technologies and the overall hardware seems a bit inferior to the Series X on paper. I have a pretty powerful PC so this didn't do much for me, I really just want to see the exclusive games.
They didn't announce if there's a PRO version, if so is this is the base or Pro specs?
Bet there's another one lurking in SONY's labs.
Good lord, this presentation was awful... Sure, it would work perfectly in GDC, but this was online for everyone. And everyone was crazy to hear anything about PS5.
Now they revealed the details, in the most boring way imaginable. The impact of the "official reveal" now is gonna be more in line with "yea? big deal".
That presentation wasn’t for me at all. I get it was planned for GDC not the public, but they didn’t cater to the masses at all. In reality they just info dumped on things we already knew were announced for it. By the sounds of it, it’s less powerful than the Series X too. Overall, I was disappointed.
Answer: nothing.
Jk jk...but still was boring and to say that it's less powerful than Xbox ouch
The image for this article makes the presentation seem a lot more exciting than it actually was.
@Futureshark is they're won't be Sony is sticking to their exact same model as before they want to continue in the console ways of old Microsoft on the other hand is changing the game completely and I can almost guarantee we see ever evolving consoles and much more frequent updates.
There's a reason they are calling it SERIES to then the "generation" is dead.
@Odium its absolutely less powerful with MAYBE higher i/o speeds but at the end of the day they'll both be lighting fast compared to before the difference will come down to the things microsoft made sure they were best in.
Really weak announcements. Most news were either known, expected or disappointing. People are already planning on waiting or skipping the PS5 entirely. It seems that Sony was arrogant and giving exclusives left and right wasn't such a good choice after all, especially when it's at least half the reason the majority will invest in your console. It also sucks for Sony, since it probably expects people to buy PS5 en masse quickly at launch. They have to really introduce full library bc for PS1,2 and 4 (i get ps3 is tricky) plus a lot of other features to attract people. Also, stop giving exclusives, just a thought.
It'll be a good hundred quid cheaper than the xbox that doesn't have any good first party games, will use far less power, not be as hot and probably be a lot smaller. Very early days but I'm looking forward to seeing the machine and it's software personally.
Well even tho i disapprove most of what i saw in recent months from Sony/Playstation, even i have to admit those SSD speeds are quite crazy...
And for those concerned, No the flop difference will not a make a huge difference. However, expect XSX to have ''higher pixel count'' while Playstation has better performance.
The dissapointing thing is about the lack of proper FULL B/C with PS4 (meaning some games might not get the B/C with PS5) and lack of PS1-PS3 B/C. Hell it is quite probable those games will run at PS4 setting from what was presented.
@Cybrshrk I couldn’t agree more. The most important thing to me are the games themselves, PS has always been the leader in that aspect. If it weren’t for Game Pass I probably wouldn’t have turn my One on again for quite some time.
@RayNick I don’t know about you Ray but I barely have time for current gen games and could care less about full backwards compatibility.
I do agree it should be something available. It would be fun, nice, but most of all appease the upset people so they could play stuff that’s better left to memory.
Personally... though I’ll likely have both consoles at some point because I think MS is doing great with their plans, it’s still about several exclusives to me. Sony just dwarfs MS in this department.
@Dan_ozzzy189 people are basically focusing on a 1.82 teraflop difference and some negligible cpu and memory differences.
I would like to see what difference in how the almost double I/O throughput of PS5 makes. I think it’s ignorant to say one is more powerful than the other at this point. Which leads it coming down to games again.
@MasterEMFG not if Sony keeps giving them away it's not. Spending 400-500 on a machine for exclusives is bad enough of an idea unless you are comfortable, but many people aren't and that's why they want the most from their machine.
I loved it, I could listen to Cerny all day lol
"Sony has finally fully revealed the PlayStation 5 console to the world"
Have they really though?
Here's my reveal of the new Ford Mustang. Beautiful right.
That's it, I'm not getting a ps5 and selling my ps4. I'd rather get a system with worse games but better flops.
I am going to wait for the price and reveal event.
Specs aren't everything. PS2 was weaker than the Xbox but went on to sell tonnes more because of games and price.
Sony needs to make sure the PS5 is cheaper than the XsX now.
Very hard to justify to the casual consumer to pay more for less
This is a very underwhelming Console build up.
825GB SSD is not enough, especially when the SSDs compatible with the PS5 are not even on the market yet and will be crazy expensive.
The Backwards Compatibility is not clear and has left me and many PS4 Owners in the dark as to what games we will be able to access on the PS5 system.
It seems Ray Tracing will be a very dumb downed version at that to run on the Sony System too.
The big pluses are the speed of the SSD and the 3D Audio that they are championing, I just hope it is as big of a leap as Cerny says.
I hope as this is a 9 TF Console (Overclocking takes it to 10.4 but is likely around 9.4 TF Raw), the pricing will be a lot more competitive than the Xbox Series X and means that the consoles won't cost £550 plus.
Also I am hoping that there are multiple storage options, like a more expensive model for the sake of 2TB storage or 1.5TB etc.
