We’ve already got a glimpse of a couple of PlayStation 5 games courtesy of Godfall and Quantum Error, but with coronavirus scuppering its plans, Sony has been largely tight-lipped about its next-gen plans. Despite not showing much more than the Japanese giant, Microsoft has built up a reputation of being more forthcoming about its Xbox Series X format, and responding to a fan on Twitter, boss Phil Spencer has suggested that it’ll be showcasing some software soon.
“Reviewed plans yesterday for continued sharing through launch,” he said. “Team is doing great work and adapting. I've never been more excited about Xbox plans. We've heard you: you want transparency and authenticity. We plan to keep showing that way, next step is not too much of a wait (games).”
There are strong rumours that both Microsoft and Sony plan to present their next-gen platforms in May, which would be approximately six months prior to their planned Holiday 2020 release windows. Despite this, the Japanese giant has remained silent about its impending plans, failing to share any timelines or roadmaps for when we’ll learn more about the PS5 and its games. The good news is that, with Xbox Series X poised to take centre stage, we should get our first glimpse of several third-party titles soon – and that’s a mouth-watering proposition in itself.

Sony should buy bluepoint games.kojima.and remedy already.and i would love sony to get techland.a plague of innocence aboso studio.and io interactive.lets get it sony.word up son
All this silence from Sony makes me even more nervous on whether they're going to bring the goods or not. Xbox failing to make an impression with the Series X isn't a big deal, because I can buy their stuff on PC. But Sony screwing up after saying silent for this long and after that boring tech talk they unfortunately hyped up would be a disaster.
I just hope the price in my country isn't too different compared to usa price.
@RBMango They got the "easiest to make games" next-gen machine, most of developers excited for it, their 1st party games this gen get all the sales and games of the year accolade, I think sony is in pretty good position
I saw the color scheme for PS5 on picture above was Violet, Blue and Green color.
Will PS5 game box get Rainbow color strip?
I'm guessing Sony will have a similarish timescale for revealing games as Microsoft. It's be wonderful once both companies start showing lots more games info. Then we can all be excited about the games themselves.
@wiiware They definitely have the vastly superior team of 1P developers over Xbox, and they murdered with their PS4 exclusives. What makes me nervous is that they've been building this air of mystique around the PS5 and have remained silent so they can "jump higher" (I think that was the quote). If they don't deliver, I have a bad feeling their lack of transparency is going to blow up in their face.
All it takes from Sony is one State of Play announcement date and everyone will be at fever pitch.
@RBMango I actually don't mind Sony keeping it's cards close to it's chest. Sure, I'm dying to know more, but that just proves they have me right where they want me! The explosion of chatter after the controller reveal shows how effective it can be to "starve" the audience of information and then finally give them something, as long as it doesn't get frustrating. Microsoft revealing little bits at a time more regularly lessens the impact of the reveals, in my opinion. Sony know it's audience is clamouring for something, anything, and can play on that. I feel Microsoft trying to generate more hype by revealing more stuff could come back to bite them as is makes each reveal less special. Just my take anyway
They are silent because mark already said during his video that they will be showing games soon. Will people please stop panicking because Microsoft made a statement that Sony already made.
Spencer regularly tells fans he’s never been more excited, yet he gets up there and tries to sell turds
It's all just nervous banter coming out of Spencers mouth at the minute. When it comes to build up, its better to have the last word.
Just hope the PS5 games dont look poor compared to Xbox SX or whatever it's called.
Everyone in the comments nervous about Sony being so quiet. It's fine. They've been like this the whole time, and it works for them. Both the Wired articles were released with little fanfare. The tech breakdown was announced the day prior. I woke up one day and knew what the PS5 controller looked like. I didn't know I was gonna know that when I went to bed the night before. It was sick. I'm really not worried.
@RBMango I think it's about their financial situations when sony said that.
'transparency and authenticity. ' * and Lockheart poker face...
Sony may have to show something sooner - if not for their own products but for the games of their 3rd Party publishers they have marketing deals with. I don't know how 'happy' they would be having to wait in the shadows to reveal and/or talk about their games whilst those aligned with MS grab headlines, pre-orders etc. Its not just the game, but potential features that the game could offer too.
In fairness though, a lot of devs/publishers would have been waiting until E3 but may have put out some teasers, a 'reveal' trailer or even talk about an aspect (MP, Co-op or Campaign) before E3 with a promise of more info coming at E3.
In any case, we will see what the next few months have in store and I am looking forward to seeing what the near future of gaming will look like...
Spencer is bluffing once again. He said the same ***** with the Xbox one X and boy I only had that for 1 month before I decided to part ways and get the ps4 pro instead. No good games on it was the killer blow. Next gen will be the same story. PS5 day one purchase for me God willing there won't be any shortage of supplies.
Spencer and MS are good at PR and marketing, that’s all. They make sub-par products time and time again.
This generation of Xbox we’ve just had has been a joke in my opinion and if I was an Xbox gamer I’d have been seriously unimpressed with their lack of exclusives.
@AdamNovice and i think they know this. This is a strategic silence and when it breaks its going to blow up!
Where's it at doh???
... Sony resting on its laurels perhaps? I'll be buying both consoles at launch, but I have a strong suspicion, next gen is going to belong to MS... they're going for it hard... and Sony are simply not stepping up to the plate (and they're already down on the specs)... :/ It reminds me of PS3 launch...
Because, as always, they wait for everyone to show their own genuine talent and then "One up" with flashy vids and words...
Years of great work goes unappreciated on other platforms because too many idiots believe that Sony's trick = Better games.... Truth is everywhere does EXCEPTIONAL work and they just get all the cool points for being crafty... Sad truth
