Following the unfortunate delays to The Last of Us: Part II and Marvel's Iron Man VR, the release calendar for AAA titles on PlayStation 4 is looking rather barren. Some pockets of the internet have even theorized that Final Fantasy VII Remake will be the last big launch of 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. We're not quite sure if that's going overboard or not, but there is a very real possibility that the PS4 won't see a hype-inducing title for quite some time. Because of that, it would make sense that Ghost of Tsushima is the next game Sony decides to delay.
Do you think that will actually happen, however? Currently planned for release on 26th June 2020, it's supposed to hit less than a month after Naughty Dog's latest experience prior to the pushback. And with the COVID-19 outbreak refusing to slow down, especially so in the US, it becomes a reasonable question whether or not Ghost of Tsushima will actually be ready in time or not. From our perspective, Push Square reckons that the game will indeed be delayed.
As always, however, we want to hear from you. What are your thoughts on this topic? Will Ghost of Tsushima suffer the same fate as Sony's other remaining PS4 exclusives or will it manage to hit its release date? Place your vote in our poll and share your thoughts in the comments below.

Definitely....coz TLOU2 will release first then ghost....
Definitely, no chance any release this big goes without physical copies
If this lock down goes into May, then yes. Otherwise I can see things going through as planned.
(I don't know how distribution works, don't take anything I say seriously)
If the lock downs work as desired we could potentially see some lifting of restrictions at some point next month. It would then depend how quickly they can get things in motion. I could see this and TLOU 2 both being ready to go about the same time and then it comes down to much Sony would want to spread them out so they don't cannibalise each others sales.
Ultimately it's a wait and see situation, I'm planning on nothing and they release when they release.
I think so yeah, and honestly it’s probably for the best. If the extra time allows them to better polish and test the game remotely then it really should have a little delay in these circumstances.
I really hope it doesn't get delayed but at this point im 99 per cent positive it will..
I think for sucker punches sake it would be better for them to launch before the last of us
Not only must developers and retailers think about the logistics of getting games to the shelf, there's also the danger that sales will be impacted from the lack of people going out and buying games. So yeah, some big games might get delayed
i think anything in the first 6 half of the year (Jan-June) has a good chance at being delayed right now
From the production side of things, possibly yes-apart from the unknowns of are the Sucker Punch crews working from home etc., then the Day 1 patch team/QA stuff & the distribution side...but could it still come out before TLOU2? I think there's a big possibility now. I doubt Sony is willing to risk mainstream media wrath of cashing in with a pandemic themed game narrative regardless that we know this has been years in the works.
Maybe, maybe not
It's extremely likely. It's not just finishing development or even logistics or shops being shut, but the fact that a lot of people are strapped for cash right now which is immediately impacting the purchasing power of vast swathes of the market. The global economy will be wrecked by the time the coronavirus crisis is managed. I think game delays will also contribute to the new consoles being delayed. Not much point launching new hardware if there aren't enough games!
If they can’t ship a game good luck to Sony getting a new console out this year.
Well I Hope not. I had booked a week of work.....oh wait were in Lockdown.
Maybe. I’m not sure Sony would want to go through with that big of a release without people having the chance to purchase physical copies, especially if they live in an area where downloading games of that size is a headache b/c of internet speeds.
However, I think the notion that FFVII Remake is the only AAA exclusive we’ll see on PlayStation the rest of the year is a foolish one. In my opinion, TLOU2 and Iron Man VR were only given those “TBD” release dates because there are still so many unknowns in regards to the situation with COVID 19 and necessarily because of further delays in their development. If people are allowed to return to work in the next month or so, I could see TLOU2 still being released this fall (I don’t know what Iron Man VR’s release was supposed to be). That is too difficult to predict though, hence the “TBD” release dates...
Hopefully not but I can help but feel like a delay will inevitable.
With a June release I'd say it's 40-60 release vs delay right now. I honestly don't believe TLOU2 had any barring on Ghosts.
I think Sony is going to delay the majority of their big releases this year and then launch them as cross-gen games on PS4/PS5.
Disappointing for current PS4 owners, but should make for one hell of a launch year for early PS5 owners.
I think it's probable, although would be interested to see if they're prepared to take a gamble and test out all digital for something like this.
Sony are fortunate to be able to hold a game and release when they're ready though, a lot of other publishers won't have that financial luxury
Have they said if it's even finished yet? I know we've had a few "gone gold" articles of late, don't think Ghost was one though.
If it's done I could see it releasing before TLOU2 and I'm OK w/ that.
I think it will be delayed, I don't think the logistic situation will be better on june. I hope I'm wrong though.
Surely the last few months/weeks are critical? There has to be a delay.
I understand why TLOF2 was delayed, as the original TLOF sold very well and is still selling now, it has a big fan base. The Ghost of Tsushima on the other hand is a new IP, so Sony might not be as stricted.
I think it all depends on what happens in the coming months re Covid-19 But even if lock down is lifted, things will never be 'normal' again, let alone in 3 months time. Logistics and distribution are likely to be impacted for months and years to come.
If i had to nail my mast to the wall there are a couple of things that lead me to believe that Ghost of Tsushima will hit its release date however. And its directly as a result of the delay to the Last of Us 2 (which will finally come out in the autumn).
I'll try and explain my thinking below:
1. I think Sony will rebrand TLOU2 as the final hurrah for PS5 in the autumn (it will have some form of fancy PS5 patch too day and date for the PS5 launch). The game will probably release in September or October.
2. Sony didnt have to release TLOU2 in May, so soon after another 'exclusive' in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. This gives both games a little more breathing space. Ghost is further out, so won't suffer from too many big releases in such close proximity in the same way.
3. Releasing TLOU2 - a game about a global pandemic - in the midst of an actual pandemic probably had Sony's PR teams screaming. Moving the release date away from the peak of the real world event seemed like a sensible move. Ghost obviously doesn't have that issue, so wont attract media headlines if it comes out in the coming months.
@rjejr No it has not gone gold yet, i think it is a bit early for that yet.
In all honesty I think it's difficult to say at this point as I don't think we know the variables from Sucker Punch's end of things. Is it a case that the game can be finished with people working from home? How close to being finished is the game? etc.
I can't help but think that if it were delayed then we would've heard something by now, so I'd say it's still a possibility it could hit the release date. But time will tell. I'm fairly sure that if the call was made to delay the release, then we'll hear about it fairly soon after it is made.
@JohnnyShoulder I didn't think so but thought I'd ask, so thanks.
And you are right, it is a little early, have we heard much from Sucker Punch besides that trailer and cool animated PS4 theme? News feels kinda light but they could have just been waiting for FF7R to release. Now of course everything is waiting.
I wish they'd rip the band aid and just say it'll be delayed. At least I have FF7 Remake.
Seems odd that with 2 months until release, Ghost has nothing but a couple cinematic trailers to show for. No previews. No presentations. No deep dives. Even Death Stranding with its "what even is this game?" got a Kojima gameplay presentation 4 months before release. The marketing alone suggests a delay.
@rjejr No, nothing that springs to mind. They have been v quiet abiut the game generally.
@JohnnyShoulder It's been a weird quiet year all around.
If it isnt delayed and the pandemic is still in full force, it actually wouldn't look good for Naughty Dog so they should delay it to save face regardless.
@Rob_230
"Nailing your mast to the wall"?? That's not an actual expression
I think the delay of TLOU2 is more due to it's content which could strike a nerve and offend in the current pandemic than for the logistic reasoning, but it could be both.
Also Sony and the studios need to cash in on the production costs of these games, and that's probably not the best way to do it after the PS5 has been released, but who knows, maybe it'll work due to the BC in the PS5? If not, and the delays continue, maybe the PS5 will be pushed too?
@BrettAwesome your right, its not. Nailing colours to the mast is but i kinda like the ring of @Rob_230 "nailing mast to the wall" and i get his gist.
@Rob_230 Launching with PS5 along with a day one patch could really sell some of their new console. They could even do a TLoU themed PS5 with the game bundled.
I will tell you what: No comments and who cares. It will release when it is ready anyway.
@Kidfunkadelic83 @BrettAwesome Haha why not right? Look. With lockdown, its worth trying anything to pass the time. And if that means i am going to try to nail a mast to my wall, i'll give it a go
(But yes, point taken)
@Rob_230 nail away brother, nail away ☺️👍
yeah canada psn says august first so 1 month delay sux
