Unlike EA and Ubisoft, with EA Play 2020 and Ubisoft Forward respectively, it sounds like Square Enix won't be holding its own digital showcase to make up for the fact that there's no E3 this year. According to journalist Takashi Mochizuki, the Japanese publisher has said that preparing for such an event has become difficult because of the ongoing coronavirus situation. As such, it plans on announcing new games individually when the time is right.
It's fair to say that the aforementioned pandemic has impacted everyone in the industry -- some worse than others. Earlier in the year, Square Enix said that it was weighing up its options with regards to a summer showcase, but such an event seems very unlikely now. Hopefully we learn more of the publisher's plans soon.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 please Square Enix.
Avengers can....yeah no, sorry not interested in that one.
Id be up for another game set in the life is strange universe
Also want to see the Deus Ex trilogy completed and wouldn't be against an FF13 remaster tbh.
SE has a track record of delayed games, excuses and a whole bunch of promises. If this was announced a few months ago - I’d have rolled my eyes and said; “typical Square.”
After playing the behemoth that is FF7R, I feel that my interest in the brand has been restored.
Square, if you need time, go for it!
FFVIIR 2 and new Deus Ex please.
Show us a glimpse of the world outside Midgar! But I feel like they will troll-reveal FF16 and people will go crazy 😝
The dream: FFIV-V-VI with trophy support.
Makes sense anyway I think. I don't think there's any real need for these individual publishers to hold huge events when they can give each game it's own day and let it stand on its own merit.
Even just an announcement that a new Deus Ex is in the works would be super.
@Rob_230 Yeah...where's that FF13 trilogy!
It doesn't seem like much to ask for a re-release with 60 FPS gameplay and an uptick in resolution, but it's telling that the PC versions are HORRIBLE. Like unbelievably bad. I have a PC that's waaaaay more powerful than a PS4, for example, and can't even get a steady 30 FPS @ 900p on FFXIII and FFXIII-2 (Lighting Returns runs perfect, tho). They run worse than on PS3, lol. The cutscene movies also look horrible, but that's probably because they're not the BluRay versions, but then that doesn't explain the massive install sizes.
There must be some kinda porting issue that's prevented them from doing this already.
Nice wishing about FF7 Remake Part 2 as I remember Square-Enix saying they are just in the planning stages of the game... if I remember reading correctly...
@Feena If you think about it...they could've been working on FF16 since 2009 after FFXIII, at least from a conceptual standpoint. That's the way I've always seen it. There hasn't technically been a "real" mainline game since then...it's all been FFXIII projects (FFXV included), remakes and remasters, or the MMO, so it makes me wonder what they've been cooking up for a battle system.
I don't expect them to be done with anything anytime soon, since they put a lot of focus into all the projects they've done since then, but creatively we haven't seen anything "new" in a loooong time (aside from FFVII's FFXIII-hybrid battles).
I hope they try something new again, and not just stick to tried-and-true methods!
A tease of the FF7R Overworld and a new Deus Ex please!
FFVII Part 2 is still in the planning stages, so I don't expect anything on that front for some time. I think we're due for an FFXVI reveal though.
@keihtg From what I recall the reason for the large install sizes is because the PC versions have duplicate FMVs for both the English and Japanese audio.
It's probably too early to ask for another Tomb Raider game, and I think it would be wise for them to "wait and see" with Cyberpunk 2077 before throwing Deus Ex out there again.
When it comes to my personal wishlist, another Final Fantasy Tactics-esque game sounds amazing, especially if they incorporated elements from the recent boom of turn-based games to make something unique. I'm thinking a budget $40 release, to not take away from other projects?
I mean, I don't think they have anything major to show up soon.
We'll have that Nier remake/remaster, Yoko Taro is probably working on a game but with Platinum working on Babylon's Fall I don't see that project coming out anytime soon.
FF7 part 2 isn't even a thing at this point, there are rumours that Yoshida is working on FF16 but I'm willing to bet he's working on the next expansion for FF14.
@Athrum Yoshida's department is working on something Big and Next-Gen... I got the impression he's overseeing it but not in the same way he was forced to protectively nurture FFXIV... The dream is him having XVI because he's on record stating he'd want something more medieval for the entry... My faith in him is immense after the disgusting amount of time I've put into XIV.
@Rob_230 destructoid reported its still in preproduction....not lookin good.
@Rob_230 All of what you just said, except I'm one of the few that is hyped for the new Avengers game.
