Naughty Dog’s reiterated on multiple occasions that The Last of Us: Part II is by far its most ambitious game, but in an announcement video released this week to confirm the project’s completion, director Neil Druckmann shared a few more details.
“I want to congratulate the team who has pulled off the most ambitious game we’ve ever made,” he beamed. “I know I’ve said this before, but you won’t know to what degree until you get your hands on it, and see the care that’s gone into every detail, from the level design to the mechanics… Graphically, how the game looks… Environments, art direction, characters, story, the audio design, the soundtrack – oh my god, the soundtrack is so amazing!”
Druckmann added that, despite playing the title through multiple times, he still feels the emotional impact of the storyline. “I just finished a playthrough and was crying by the end of it,” he added.
Of course, the reaction to the title since sensitive story details leaked has been, shall we say, divided at best. The video confirming the game’s completion currently has 34k dislikes, which is staggering for such a hotly anticipated release. Druckmann, of course, had a message for the developer’s critics: “Nothing compares to playing this thing from beginning to end.”

Despite my dislike for Uncharted and a lot of TLoU, the first game was a lot of fun once the combat completely clicked. (Clicked, lawl)
funny that despite that bandwagon hate the game is still amazon's best seller in the US,UK,france and brazil.
so all those youtubers stating that the "woke" story of the game will hurt their sales are already proven wrong.
but then again as with most cases,most people saying they won't buy a game for whatever reason end up buying it anyway. proving there's no credit or base for their complaints,as even they don't actually end up holding on to it.
@jdv95
I cannot wait for this bad boy. Even though I had it spoilt that Joel’s beard isn’t real.
@get2sammyb exactly.
most people just join the bandwagon to get easy likes on the internet.
but their true collors are only proven when they actually refuse to buy the game for real. which so far has not happened.
@jdv95 No, among hardcore gamers sales have already been hurt. Of course it's going to have some decent sales, but it's remember Battlefield V? People said that game's sales wouldn't be hurt by the "whiners". It sold half as much as BF1 and EA was disappointing by sales, so it lost millions in sales. This has even more potential to be hurt. You don't have this level of reaction without trouble and history has shown that. They haven't been proven wrong at all yet.
Plus, when the game comes out, I'd be willing to bet money all of this will start up again and the game will have many people upset, hurting post-launch sales too. This game will have some decent sales, nobody is arguing otherwise, but this game will be a disappointment for Sony compared to what it could have been.
Could I end up being proven wrong? It's possible, but I doubt it.
I really hate that the game won't sell that well anyway because of the pandemic. Much fewer physical sales and no way to advertise it properly. So, its lower sales will definitely be used as ammo from the anti-woke people.
It's unfortunate, but it is what it is.
@Jaz007 Fair comment, but unlike BF I'm expecting this game to get near perfect scores across the board which will help draw undecided people in.
I think I have enough space for this game reserved now, but between this and Ghost and Lego I’ll need more. First world problems
@jdv95 yeah a load of people saying they wont buy it will actually buy it regardless but most of negative reactions what i have heard isn't about wokeness but about, how to put this without spoiling, about certain events that occur to some characters (yes i have seen the spoilers and even i, a person who isn't really a fan of the series have to admit i'm not a fan of what they are doing so i really wont be buying it but i might borrow it off a mate at some point)
Oh it's ambitious alright..
@get2sammyb More like buycott. 🤣
The game will sell plenty, maybe not as many as it would have, or maybe more (having read the leaks I have gone from disinterested to strongly considering getting it at launch, I’m probably not the only one). ND will be raking it in off this game, no matter which way you slice it.
But pushing an agenda my ass. Shut your stupid mouth, open your big ugly ears and take in the story you’re being told then make your mind up. Enjoy it or don’t. That’s not to say you are not entitled to voice your negative opinions, even with little or no basis - I do it all the time. But I do it because the games a load of sh*te (Ubisoft), not because my fragile core beliefs are being crushed by a mean developer.
@OscarHTX People are angry about this game's existence.
@Rudy_Manchego hehe me too gret pedigree.
The executive producer on a game said their game is good, this is really riding the line between informing and advertising, do you guys have an interview to add on to this? Or is there more information that'll be added?
Oh and also the rampant copyright abuse needs to ease up, yes youtube has a terrible system but its only as terrible as the people abusing it.
@FullbringIchigo ah i see.
i just have the impression that all the hatred is because of PC reasons since that's all what the youtubers talk about.
saying that ND is wrong for pushing an agenda,that the game is woke etc. it's all over youtube and that's what the majority of the haters on youtubers talk about as the reason.
we all knew some F***d stuff was gonna happen to characters in the game because that's what all our expectations where and the misery and loss and violence are some of the core elements in the first game.
it's just sad and discusting that so many people can't stand seeing more fragile groups being represented in a game. all it does is enforce the basement dwelling gamer steroptype to the "outsiders" and it restricts writers and creativity.
@Jaz007 Yeah but Battlefield 4 sold less than 1/3 of what BF3 did (comparing within the PS market at least). There are loads of factors. Like with TLOU2 you'll have people being on lower wages or unemployed due to the virus, having just gone out of business, possible supply issues like with FFVIIR, people that played the first one but didn't like it, people like me who plan to get it eventually but it's not a priority, etc.
@Wormold You review the game and that’s it, there is no need to talk about all that stupidity going on (right now) when reviewing it. It doesn’t have anything to do with being “brave enough” either… You want to read a review of a game quality as a whole (gameplay, performance, etc etc), not the controversies around it like its leaks and whatnot (we have enough of that already).
@kyleforrester87 If I may ask, what about the leaks made you go from disinterested to strong launch consideration?
Edit: Just generally, I know we can't go into spoilers. Thanks.
I'm more angry about the continued crunch despite the delays, and the copyright strikes against all negative coverage.
That's scummy as hell.
@Starkei I haven't read the leaks, but if I had to guess probably one of the new weapons: the shovel, and the fact that you can dig holes wherever you want.
@OscarHTX Because people have seen the game and they don't like it. The story is really divisive so it's up to each player to make their own opinion.
@jdv95 yeah well complaining about something being woke (or just generally complaining) on youtube is a guaranteed high traffic video, it's all about the clicks now a days
@get2sammyb "People are angry about this game's existence
@OscarHTX Because people have seen the game & they’re allegedly inserting politics to the game which I think is really stupid. Not a spoiler because Neil said the same thing on his twitter a while ago.
@Starkei I’m just not a big fan of the franchise but having seen the leaks it’s made me interested as to how it’ll play out. Wouldn’t recommend looking them up if you plan on getting the game, of course
@kyleforrester87 You're really white knighting for a large corporation? Good to know that sheeple still follow blindly.
@get2sammyb That's a red herring because it's not the "existence" of the game that people have a problem with.
I preordered the steel book from amazon today, only because normal was sold out and only 3 pound more. Also downloading last of us remastered for a play through before June. Was the second game I played on ps4 after missing most of the ps3 gen. The game blew me away and this is the last post I make on anything on the game to avoid spoilers for the sequel!
@kyleforrester87 was there anything regarding the length of the story?
i remember someone saying it's more than 20 hours long which would be a first for ND and great since i will have more time to enjoy the story.
@OGGamer I don’t know what 7 of those words mean.
@jdv95 nah, I didn’t see anything about length. Personally 20 would be a bit much for me for this type of game, 12-15 would be nice.
It's so beautiful to see all the love Neil D. is getting on the Naughty Dog youtube channel video. So cool.
Somewhat bitter sweet seeing the dislike ND is getting now (40000 dislikes within 48 hours). It's bitter, cuz i hate seeing one of my favorite studios going downwards instead of up....
It's sweet, knowing not all are sheep that just scream ''homophobe'',''sexist pig'',''primitive'' etc etc when infact, most people that show disaprovall towards the game story direction has almost nothing to do with homosexuality, playing as female characters or trans characters...
Personally i'm more excited about GoT, plus i haven't even played the first one, so once i get that, i'll probably get this sequel too. That being said, sales wise, it could very well go "the Frozen" route, mediocre sales in the beginning, but steady revenue (increasing/decreasing) throught the year(s). I have very little knowledge about the universe of TLoU, but it always seemed to me that the sequel would have a rocky launch, no matter the cirqumstances, just by the amount of love its fans gave it and the vitriol its haters had.
I would be extremely surprised and somewhat disappointed if a developer didn't say their next game was the 'most ambitious' game ever. You expect them to build upon what they have achieved from their previous games and be more ambitious with each new title. I don't know what their 'next' game will be but I bet that will be their most ambitious game....
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L Most of the time when people play video games they play them to escape from the real world and immerse ourselves in fantasies. The Last of Us did this because they weren’t trying to push their personal politics onto the players. They just wanted us to enjoy the game. We don’t need or want politics pushed in our games and ND needs to know that, keep that stuff in the real world and let fiction be fiction.
@Jaz007 I agree. Due to Naughty Dogs abuse of its customers over the leaks, abusing Youtube copyright policy and its leaked woke as hell story the sales of this game will suffer. Does that mean the game will be a flop? No. It will sell well, but instead of selling a potential 25 million (using easy numbers) maybe it will only sell 18 million. That is a lot of gross rev lost because of woke political story narrative and NDs abuse of its customers. Battlefield 5 comes to mind.
I'll bet the vast majority of those downvotes came from alt-right bigots who were never going to buy the game anyways(Same deal with the Ghostbusters reboot trailer).
Anyways I couldn't be more excited about this game, June 19th can't get here fast enough!
@Octane Hahahaha I like that show too.
@DominatorV93 You're right. I think most of the hate and dislike is from ND giving its customers a giant middle finger after the leaks happened. No one cares about the gender of the characters or who they're sleeping with. I'm not sure why that's important in a game anyway, seems like useless information to me imo.
After reading the spoilers I totally understand how many dislikes they got recently.. I loved the first one but I'm really curious how the fans who haven't been spoiled pre release are gonna respond to all this bs. It's nothing to do with 'woke' or 'LGBT' or trans.. it's so disheartening for me, who loved the first one, to see soo many people praise this game and not knowing how the game will shape and end. Please dont get spoiled for this since the things that have leaked are really bad and come across as a joke if I hadn't seen gameplay confirming it.
I might still get it at end of year but I am curious though how the critics will review this considering the mess the leaks show.
@Dethstorm35
Ellie being lesbian is nothing to do with any of the outrage tbf. Most people who are downvoting ND are fans who have seen the spoilers. Nothing to do with lgbt it's something far worse I'm afraid. People are quick to think all the outrage is due to homophobic people but it ain't.
@Jaz007 yeah you really need to not listen to the internet echo chamber it’s proven wrong almost every time. The game is not going to underperform and that I will bet.
I don't know if the ending statement means if I'll think it's better or worse. Can go either way.
At any rate, I'm sure it'll be pretty cheap in a few years on PS5. I'm not in any rush.
I really liked The Last of Us, enjoyed would be the wrong word, as thematically it was so bleak. It played really well as a video game, and the story managed to draw me in like a good film. I will want to play to new one down the road as I am sure it will be remarkable, but maybe not in the mood for such a heavy tale at present. Im enjoying the escapism of SnowRunner.
@TrueAssassin86x You can assume that but since it's an unfalsifiable claim there's no point in me saying not in a chance in hell. Despite evidence to the contrary people like you are defending the agenda pushing of ND. Before you say "No no they aren't doing that" WHY are they false flagging so much? They wouldn't have done that were the leaks received positively.
I'm sure you're blind loyalty to a corporation will be rewarded. Corporations love you and send you presents and Christmas cards.
@darkrage6 the Ghostbusters reboot was a godawful film, and a box office bust...
@darkrage6 Yeah , the Ghostbusters reboot agenda pushing worked out swimmingly for them 😂. The people who PUSH for this content are not avid supporters. Look at Marvel and it's new warriors. Even the comic fans who are actual LGBTQ renounce what Marvel is doing because 1)They're actual fans who spend money on the content and 2)Don't care about pushing agendas. They just want to live their lives like the rest of us.
Maybe that should be a new game. "The rest of us". A straight white male and his other straight white male Christian friend traverse a landscape of corporate zombie supporters looking to silence them.
@Cornaboyzzz yeah can’t say the game is good or not when no one has played it and experienced the story in context,build up etc.
@OGGamer how did you get that from his comment lol grow up. I bet you would have loved to interpret his comment as being a white knight for right wing losers and morons huh smh.
@DominatorV93 you can keep acting like that’s not the reason when it along with fanboy console warriors is most def the reason.
@grahamd yeah none of that is true. Seriously how do losers like you get so into your feelings that you come up with this stuff and spend so much energy hating I just don’t get it.
@Kiro_Senpai keep pedaling that bulls**t no one is buying it. The game is at the top of almost every preorder chart and is going to be a huge hit like it was always destined to be. I mean people aren’t blind it’s very easy to see the hundreds upon hundreds of YouTube videos screaming hateful,bigoted bullcrap as well as going to any ND developers twitter and seeing the absolutely disgusting and homophobic bullcrap being said. I promise the people who have legitimate reasons to hate the story are probably 1 percent of the mob while the other 99 percent are right wing losers and console warriors.
@dark_knightmare2 Never said it wasn't gonna be good, we know ND and they make impressive games, no doubt about that. But they made some crazy choices on this one, and not everybody is gonna like it.
@jdv95 my boy, you see people bashing and criticizing EA, Ubisoft and Activision every single year, yet, what are the top selling developers every year? I'm not saying that the game is good or bad, but selling well despite being bad is not a rare occurrence.
The world is too big to say that no one changed their mind and refused to buy the game.
@OGGamer yes they would have lmao you can’t be serious? Any developer or creator of art who has spent years and years working on something does not want leaks and out of context leaks at that.
@kyleforrester87 Tell it how it is brotha! I share the exact same opinion on the matter. The only agenda being pushed is hate based on leaked cutscenes, and since there’s nothing else to talk about in gaming right nowand everyone’s got pent up rage or something from being stuck in quarantine, everyone’s jumping to conclusions claiming Druckman pushed political views on us and Anita this, Anita that, when in reality she wasn’t involved with the game IN ANY CAPACITY whatsoever.
@Cornaboyzzz you do know that false leaks have been mixed in with real ones right? A game that is going to be 20 to 30 hours long that has had I think an hour and a half of footage leak with almost half that being idle time is nowhere near enough especially with it out of context to determine if something is good or bad.
@dark_knightmare2 Underperform doesn’t mean it loses money. It means it sold less than it could have. I’m also hardly in an echo chamber here. My opinion isn’t what many commentators here think, and that’s perfectly fine.
@dark_knightmare2 Have you seen any leaks ? From what you're saying I guess not. If you did you'd know what I'm talking about, and it goes way beyond some footage.
Am I the only one who actually wants to experience how the game plays out after reading the spoilers? It seems we're in for a genre-defining game again.
@darkrage6 Great logic and comparison. That Ghostbusters reboot really set the world on fire at the box-office, all those broken BO records, man, and it's sequel was awesome as well.
@dark_knightmare2 Get what about who's comment? Be specific and demonstrate your superior maturity.
@dark_knightmare2 Right and you can demonstrate that they would have flagged positive feedback correct? You see I can actually demonstrate the opposite from multiple sources. Can you?
@Vegetto Exactly, people buy shovelware and crap all the time.
@RenanKJ Genre-defining is a strong claim that not one game has earned since 2017.
@OGGamer damn sure they would have! There’s been plenty of examples in the past of spoilers leaking and devs shutting them down whether positive or negative.
I hope last of us 2 reviews well and sell a lot F the bigots and xbots hater.
I was a big fan of the TLOU, and was looking forward to TLOU 2, but after just watching a leaked cutscene, i’m going to need to be given a good reason to play this game.
I get the feeling this isn’t going to be the game for these times.
@RenanKJ the spoilers don’t sound too bad in theory, but the actual footage is gross.
Can we not all just put our differences aside and all agree on the most important thing? That pineapple does not belong on pizza.
@kyleforrester87 I don't understand why this game is receiving so much hate? have I missed something? I refused to watch/read any of the links for fear of ruining the game for myself but other than that IDK why all the hate? I fell in love with the first game, the story was incredible the graphics on PS3 were phenomenal, I even bought the remastered version and beat it twice more over the years because I enjoyed the journey that much. I think this game will do great & I believe true gamers who appreciate ALL the hard work that goes into these games will enjoy this game as well 👌 happy gaming!
@Akurusu I stand by it, I believe it'll be genre-defining.
@cali_kush70 It’s receiving hate because of the way ND is acting, and the fans who saw the leaks well...
@grahamd it’s one guy who btw is known for being a “jerk off” who’s friends with any henning not to mention he wouldn’t be privy to what goes on in ND because he’s a director in Hollywood not a game developer. I’ll give you props for finding one dudes opinion but until we have it officially that he “stole” uncharted or he’s a jerk off from numerous sources I’m going to go with a big old fat no on both counts
Substitute ambitious for sexually ambiguous
@dark_knightmare2 @grahamd
No-one stole Uncharted, it belongs to Sony and not Naughty Dog or any of their employees, past or present.
@Kiro_Senpai I know, I said that. You are repeating exactly what I said. Most are outraged at the way ND has given a giant middle finger to fans and critics. A very small percent give a crap about Ellie being gay.
@OscarHTX People are very angry about the leaks for the game.
