Astro’s Playroom is almost guaranteed to be one of the most entertaining PlayStation 5 launch games, and the great news is that you won’t have to pay a penny to play it. The title – which is designed to be a showcase of the DualSense controller’s features and functions – will come pre-loaded on your system, and will take you on a tour of four fun worlds, some of which appear to be paying homage to PlayStation hardware from the past.
Check out this first batch of PS5 screenshots to improve your mood:

Didn’t realise it was free. That’s very exciting, Astro-Bot was one of my favourite games this gen.
This looks so fun.
Absolutely loved the 1st one, it is probably my favourite VR game so looking forward to this one. Hope the soundtrack is as good as the 1st
@nessisonett
Playroom came free with both PS4 and PSVR to demo the new functions in gameplay. Same on the PS5 and I'm sure it will be a new PS VR Playroom when PSVR 2.0 is released in a year or so too.
Damn, I actually thought its a new VR game =(
@Murray It's not, but doesn't mean there can't be a new one in the future.
Looks good. This looks more like an actual game than The Playroom on PS4, so that's good. A great way to show off the DualSense features; and this hopefully bodes well for a proper sequel on PSVR.
@Murray That's what I thought too
Really cool that the game is pre-loaded on all consoles.
What in the hell is Astrobot doing to that Dualsense?
I like FREE. And always wanted to play Astrobot, need a PSVR this generation.
It's like how wii sports was bundled in with the Nintendo wii, BUT 100X BETTER
@lacerz XD
@get2sammyb @Octane Not to sound all - the PS4 is dead, bring on the PS5 games - like what happened to Wii U and Switch - but does this look like a game to you that PS4 couldn't run and therefore it HAS to be a PS5 exclusive?
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the PS5 will have exclusives and I think MS saying no exclusives for a year or 2 is a big mistake, but this isn't one of those games. Horizon is. Maybe Demons Souls. Not even the Morales update. Free is good, I played w/ the Playrrom. Heck I bought a camera just to play w/ the Playroom, and the VR Playroom, and Astrobot is awesome, but they should be careful about leaving PS4 owners in the lurch w/ stuff like this. It's admittedly a tightrope.
Also, a question more for Sammy - this comes w/ PS5, but will it need the camera, and will the camera come w/ PS5, or can I use my PS4 camera? I'm still 100% convinced PS4 having that Playroom for free was b/c Sony had intended to ship the PS4 bundled w/ the camera - see all the pre-E3 photos of them together - but then unbundled the camera to hit the $399 price at the last minute, around E3.
Free??? COOL Always liked the look of the VR version(I think it was for VR) so will try this
Great fun, i love astro bot on vr, i was hoping they could make a part of this vr to, be more immersive then to have a choice...maybe in a future update.
Wonderful i am so glad after playing Astrobot Vr i must say it's the future of Mario & a Mario killer it's the way all future mario games need to be.
Astrobot is amazing and a great icon for playstation.
@rjejr I mean, this just a free little game specifically made to show off the features of the DualSense controller. So I think it makes perfect sense that this is a PS5 exclusive.
As long as it can be deleted. Have to say I'm not a fan of having software pre-installed on systems, regardless of the quality.
Like a few others I thought it was advertising a new VR adventure but even so I'm still more excited for this free game than some of the big games like Spider-Man that was shown.
Sh1t, I'd have paid for this after Astro Bot.
Thought this would be a free title already on the system, much like Playroom of old and that other Ps3 title, Home or something. Was confused that JAPANStudio were on board but that will make it even better tbh.
PlayStation has a new mascot
@Octane Yeah, you're probably right. Only they weren't promoting it like a "free little game", they were promoting it like it's a whole new big game. Or maybe I'm confusing it w/ Sackboy. Or Spiderman Deluxe Edition w/ Miles Morales skin, whatever that game is about, nobody knows. 🤷♂️
@rjejr They are all separate games. I don't know if you've ever played The Playroom on PS4, the free game/app that came installed on the system; it also introduced Astrobot as a character and was made show off the PS Camera features. Later they released The Playroom VR as part of PSVR, same concept. Astro's Playroom is a continuation of that concept, but now it's made to show off the Dual sense and PS5 features. The name gave it away for me. So it's not a sequel to Astrobot: Rescue Mission, but more of a sequel to The Playroom and The Playroom VR.
The Sackboy game is just a platformer without the LBP creation part, and it's top-down 3D, like Super Mario 3D World.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales is to Spider-Man (2018) what Uncharted: Lost Legacy is to Uncharted 4. It's not the Spider-Man 2 that is probably in development as well, but a standalone spin-off that features a different main character. I expect it to be on cheaper side too, around $40, since they did that with Lost Legacy as well.
@Octane At this point I've read so many conflicting comments on Spiderman I don't know what to think. And considering how long they have probably been working on the game, and how long they've bene working on the presentation, there is no excuse for ambiguity, just tell us what it is. I don't recall there being that much ambiguity for Lost Legacy. It was supposed to be DLC, it got to big, it became it's own sequel spin-off minigame, done. This is maybe a lot of things.
@rjejr There was confusion because of a statement from a spokesperson from Sony of Europe, but Insomniac clarified it since then. There is no confusion anymore. It is a standalone game. It is not DLC, nor a remaster/remake of the first game.
@Octane "There is no confusion anymore."
If there is no confusion anymore then why did PS just published an entire new article about it? 😉
