It's taunting me. π©
@Bentleyma- I need that background. Where did you get it?
@Bentleyma- @Octane Seconded!
@Rob_230
To the cloud!
Is it weird that Iβm disappointed that the file seems to be so small? π
Most recent AAA games are pushing 80-100 GB lately.
@Th3solution Most of the data that makes up a file size are unused and duplicate assets and textures. File size doesn't tell you anything about quality, graphical fidelity or size of the game.
Most developers don't optimise their games for small file sizes, because almost nobody cares, as long as it fits on a disc it's fine. That's why most games are just shy under 50GB. Or in the case of TLOU2 and RDR2 just under 100GB. But they can get the file size even smaller if they wanted to. It's just a lot of additional work for something hardly anyone is going to appreciate.
@Th3solution While im not disappointed,i do find it odd for a game of this scope to be 36 gb. I was expecting it to be at least 50.
@hulkie Like I said, a lot of the game data is unused textures and 3D models, and duplicates. It doesn't tell you anything about the actual size of the game.
It's also the reason why PS5 games can be smaller in theory. Because the SSD doesn't require duplicate assets and textures, because anything can be loaded instantly. Whereas on a HDD it makes a difference where the textures and assets are stored on the drive. If they are too far apart, loading times increase drastically. And so developers often have to add in duplicates to make sure that all the assets are located near each other when a level is loaded.
Here's a slide from Insomniac's GDC presentation, and it shows you how asset duplication can increase the file size by more than ten times:
Clever coding and programming may have helped Ghost of Tsushima get the file size down a bit. But in theory they can go even smaller without compromising the game.
And this is ignoring unused textures and assets.
Yep I had a nice little surprise when I woke up this morning but now it'll taunt me for a week. Really can't wait for next week
Cr*p!!
I better burn through the rest of TLOUS2 this weekend then, I'm only halfway through I think.
@Octane yeah, maybe that extra month delay let them optimize enough to get the file size down.
Anyone know where to find the theme and avatar on the store? I canβt locate it at all.
My PS4 has started downloading a second file called bonus content. It's 22.085gb.
@Bentleyma- what background theme is that?
The last big ps4 exclusiveπ€.man the generation went so fast.ghost π» of tshushima will be amazing.a 91 on metacritic.word up son
@Boucho11 if you have pre-ordered the game digitally and the download for the game has started already, you can go to the game tile and press down on the joypad until reach the ps store section, then tap right to see the avatar and theme. If the download does not start automatically (like with me) just find the game in your library and repeat the above steps. You can set the avatar but the theme you can't set until the game is released.
@Octane it's from shadow of colossus remake ps4 game.
@Octane The background is a screenshot I took!
@JohnnyShoulder ah ok. Yeah I have it preordered and downloaded from the store but was unsure where the theme was. Shame we canβt have it running now though π
@Bentleyma- That's even more impressive..!
Give it to me nowwww!
@VanguardKaiser Ive restarted my ps4 several times.Im not getting this 22 gb update. Something wrong with my ps4?
@hulkie If the download does not start automatically just find the game in your library and manually start the download.
Get ready= wake the ***** up
@Futureshark same
Does anyone know what is in the bonus content to make it nearly as big as the main game it was a 22GB download.
Looking forward to this. Just waiting for Game to dispatch my collectors edition which is next Thursday apparently
Excited to get the deluxe edition from GameStop. The steelbook looks really nice. Can't fathom why anyone would want to get this digitally and miss out.
