Well, that's one less PlayStation 5 launch game to look forward to. Arkane Lyon has made the understandably difficult decision to delay Deathloop to Q2 2021, meaning it will miss the launch of Sony's next-gen console by a considerable number of months. The team states that it will share another update on the game soon, but the delay is an essential one as the world continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic in working from home.
In a statement on Twitter, the developer said: "Our ambition for Deathloop is to deliver a signature Arkane game that takes you to never-before-seen places in a stylish new world. At the same time, the health and safety of everyone at Arkane Lyon remains our top priority. As we've adjusted to work-from-home, we found that delivering this new and exciting experience, at the polish and quality level that defines both an Arkane game and a true next-gen experience, is taking longer than normal."
The extra time this gives Arkane Lyon will allow it to put even more effort into bringing the world and its characters to life. Had you been looking forward to playing Deathloop at the launch of the PS5? Will you now instead invest that time and money into a different title? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

That's a shame, but I can't blame them considering how crowded this fall is going to be. I'll still be looking forward to it in 2021.
I'm beginning to wonder if its worth getting either of these at launch, all the biggest games launching this year are coming to current gen anyway
Aww, it looked really good but I’d take a polished game over a rushed one. Honestly, this pretty much makes up my mind not to get the PS5 at launch, there just aren’t the games. Might wait until the next christmas.
@Kefka2589 same, on the one hand I want to buy the new thing just because but on the other, all the games I want to play won't be out anyway such as Resident Evil, Horizon and Ratchet. Yet the one game I do want to play in Cyberpunk will be out on PS4 and not have a true PS5 version
That's a bit disappointing, but I understand if arkane didn't want to compete with cyberpunk 2077 on ps5.
Disappointing but still looking forward to this one.
@Kefka2589 This is why I want to hear more about the backwards compatibility. If it does bring near instantaneous loading to PS4 games then I'm 100% in for launch regardless of the launch titles. A young toddler means gaming time is usually 30 minutes here and there. One of the reasons I gave up on Witcher 3 was because a 30 minute session usually involved 1 hour of loading. (That sentence may have used exaggeration for effect.) So it could basically triple my gaming time.
That sucks but i really like the look of this game so they can take their time to make sure its good
Stuff is starting to slip and I don't think this is going to be the last one unfortunately. As long as Spiderman hits for launch I'll be good 🤞🏾😬
It’s becoming increasingly easier to ignore these next gen consoles this year.
Not bothered at all. I didnt even think that was supposed to be this year.
Give me Morales. I would love Returnal asap too.
Was probably going to be getting it on PC anyway. Yeah the PS5 launch is really giving me Switch vibes now
It looks like Spider-Man: Miles Morales is their Breath of the Wild moment
@Kefka2589 Yeah, it's definitely going to play nearly all PS4 games. Just what (if any) enhancements they will have is TBC. But instant loading will definitely increase the time I have to actually play games.
Cyberpunk 2077 is my PS5 launch game. I only expect it to have faster load time and smoother game play with higher FPS.
If the software isn't there for launch, then neither Sony nor Microsoft should launch their respective consoles. Just doesn't seem like studios are ready to launch games, which isn't a massive surprise.
@JohnKarnes Was it confirmed for this year? I think CP2077 is just meant to be backwards compatible with PS5 for now and the actual next gen version that takes proper advantage of next gen consoles is coming later
Bummer. Obviously, it should be delayed until finished/polished. But I was really looking forward to playing this at PS5 launch.
@redd214 Don't get your hopes up. If you're lucky you get a Spider-Man costume in Fall Guys
I didn't upgrade to a pro and now have an oled TV, so if sony confirm backwards compat for majority of games is pro and where not available boosted ps4, I might still bite. Neither console looks like the switch launch though, where within 6 -9 months you had botw, odyssey, splatoon 2 and mario & rabbids!! Thats how to do it!
Was this a launch title?
Oh Arkane and their lovely unique art style and intelligent gameplay. This and HFW is what I want bad, and of course PS5 GTAV 😆
@Noob_Saibot "It's no use launching the PS5 now if they only have Spider-Man as a single exclusive"
The Nintendo Switch begs to differ
So as of now, how many games are confirmed for PS5 launch? And what are they? Does pushsquare have an article with a list??
@NYJetsfan123 These two are relevant:
https://www.pushsquare.com/guides/all-ps5-launch-games
https://www.pushsquare.com/guides/new-ps5-game-release-dates-in-2020
Edit: Personally I think it's a bit too early to tell. I'll buy a PS5 at launch depending on system price and what games are coming out within 3 months of the system, but so much is still unconfirmed right now I'm not making any firm decisions yet. People calling for the system launch to be delayed are maybe being a little hasty.
Arkane is one of my favorite studios.i l🖤ve dishonored games.so im looking forward to this game.i can wait.my backlog of games could last me for 2 to 3 years so im chilling like a villain.word ☝ up son
@TheFrenchiestFry Spider-Man Morales looks to be a great game, but it is not in the the same league as Breath of the Wild.
@Jarobusa I compare the two because it's high profile enough that maybe it'll end up being what carries the launch for a lot of people, especially those who don't follow gaming news hardcore or anything of that sort
It's a sequel to one of the most critically and commercially successful console exclusives of the current generation, it's tied to a character who's one of the most celebrated in comics history, and Miles Morales has extra traction going in given the extremely positive reception to Into the Spider-Verse, in addition to the relaunch of his comic series keeping him fresh in everyone's minds
@Kefka2589 For what was technically a new franchise altogether the fact it got that close in terms of sales numbers to an installment in a 30+ year old series is actually pretty impressive
Also compared to other PS4 exclusives it sold pretty damn amazingly. It's the best selling game based on a comic book character of all time as well as the PS4's fastest selling game. It can definitely go toe to toe with Zelda now that the series has an established presence
What is it with people wanting next gen to be delayed? Because the one game you were looking forward is delayed? Its ridiculous. Millions of gamers cant wait to get their hands on the PS5 and the first batch of consoles is already shipping this month anyway supposedly.
I guess why that narrative is going on though.
Next it will be ps5 turn to delay there exclusive games still I’ll be waiting till ps5 launch before playing avengers with confirmed next gen support and also watch dogs legion and assassin’s creed Valhalla and of course cyberpunk 2077 so there’s plenty of games at the end of the year enhanced for next gen even if not exclusive, I’m sure Spider-Man won’t be delayed 😨.
Whatever only reason I'm even getting a launch day PS5 is to play all this year PS4 games since I sold my PS4 PRO earlier this year to get as much as I can for it ($450 CAD)
It's okay delayed games are for the best. Rather polish it than release a turd. I think I am with a lot of folks when I say that I am probably only going to grab a ps5 next year. I have quite a few games in my ps4 backlog that I want to finish (not to mention that October is solely horror game time). I wanna play cyberpunk but I can wait to play it on the ps5. Plus it will probably be cheaper by then like a few of the games I do want to play
Well, there goes the only other game besides Miles Morales I wanted for PS5 this year.
This has sold me on waiting till 2021 to get a PS5, it's such a mediocre launch line up based on what we currently know, Deathloop was the main reason I was going to buy a PS5 on day one.
And all the more power to those who are hyped for Miles Morales, but as much as I want to play it at some point, a stand alone DLC (that's what it is, basically their Lost Legacy) for me isn't enough to warrant spending £500-600 on a console when I have a backlog of amazing titles to get through on PS4 aswell as games like Cyberpunk still yet to come to the console.
I'll be keeping an eye out for a Horizon II collector's edition PS5 instead of a launch edition.
@carlos82 to be fair you might not be able to get a PlayStation 5 they will be sold fast.
if I'm honest the chances of me buying this game day one was 0.
I think we'll be lucky if Spider-Man Miles Morales makes it for launch. Everything is shifting and I wouldn't be surprised if both consoles launch with next to no games on them. Both Sony and Microsoft should do a "behind the scene" pact and launch both when they're able too. I think both makers are afraid of the public perception of "blinking" in this regard.
@Kefka2589 makes sense, as they do one for 85% of their major exclusives, would be a great looking edition too I bet.
And by that time games like Miles Morales will be cheaper and the PS5 will have its launch issues patched and console hardware issues ironed out too.
I guess exclusive launch lineups are down to Miles for PS5 and the Medium and Scorn for XSX, and we still have seen no gameplay for Scorn.
Disappointed since Deathloop & Kena are the two titles I wanted to dig into for my extended holiday break in PS5.
I bet you 99% of next Gen games will get delayed and won't come out on PS5's launch :-/ + for the next Gen Xbox to. Oh well luckily I still have about 8 big PS4 games to get thru until next year(it's good to have a backlog of games piling up I guess)
I have been saying for a while now that PS5 will launch 2021, seriously hope I am wrong..... we buy consoles for the games, not to hold a door open 😎
Just another reason I’m waiting until next year to pick up a PS5, because I’m sure more delays are coming..... 🙄 Hope Cyberpunk is still on track...
@TheFrenchiestFry That's true the update to PS5 will come at a later date. That is the reason I said: "I only expect it to have faster load time and smoother game play with higher FPS". Nothing about improved graphics.
@Kefka2589 LOL my thoughts exactly!
Backlog goes back to PS3
But the wife gave me $500 for Father's Day to buy it and I need to get it to make sure the money goes where it was meant to
I couldn't care less if an 'Exclusive' Launch title gets delayed with everything that's going on in the world right now. It won't impact my decision to buy next gen and I couldn't care less if a LOT of next gen games will be available on current gen either.
I want to play games at their 'best' on a 'console' platform. Its why I bought a Pro and X despite them both playing ALL the same games as the base consoles - only better. I would rather buy a next gen console and play all the new games, even if they are available on PS4/XB1 at the best Visual quality and highest performance possible. No doubt some of the games in my backlog too will perform a lot better as well so even if I don't have 'new' exclusives to play at launch, I have numerous games that I can enjoy and some that will be more enjoyable.
Maybe its me, but just having 'access' to a game is not the same as having access to the best version of a game. I would rather buy a next gen console to get access to the best versions of the game and then when these 'Exclusives' do release, I already have the console to play them on. In the meantime, I have been enjoying all the cross gen releases and some of the games in my backlog with higher visual quality and higher/more consistent frame rates. All those games that drop resolution and frame rate on current gen, running smoother and more consistently - much more enjoyable!!
The thing is current gen launch was a lot weaker. I waited till Infamous SS to get my ps4. This time, not only there is BC and a ton of games available, but there are more cross gen titles. I'm definitely getting Outriders on PS5 day one.
Shame, but I understand due to Corvid. I was set to buy a PS5 this year. However, my Ps4 decided to die so I bought a slim and the fan is silent, I actually forgot they used to be like that. Nevermind have enough of a backlog to get through, so may wait for the next upgraded PS5.
@Kefka2589
I loved ISS and still now but the first year was quiet.
2015 was awesome though
@Noob_Saibot Why wait if it's ready? Let people who want it for enhanced PS4 games buy it in November, then those waiting for the real next-gen games can buy it whenever they come out, be that March 2021, Christmas 2021, or even 2022.
Shame to hear about the game being delayed, but hopefully the game will be mostly bug/glitch free as a result.
