Talk about a match made in heaven! Hitman developer IO Interactive has just announced its next project and it's a James Bond name currently going by the name of Project 007. The game appears to be quite early in development as the studio is currently looking to recruit talent from across the globe, so it'll probably only come to PlayStation 5 rather than being a cross-gen release.
The official website reads: "Featuring a wholly original Bond story, players will step into the shoes of the world's favorite Secret Agent to earn their 00 status in the very first James Bond origin story." Details are extremely scarce besides that brief description, but still, this is seriously exciting stuff! How hyped are you to learn more? Share your excitement in the comments below.

YESSS!
A match made in heaven, indeed. Perfect fit.
I can't think of a better game/developer match up. Really looking forward to this!
This is great news, very excited about this! Bond has had a bad track record for ages with video games, fingers crossed this will correct that!
I was not expecting this announcement but I am pleasantly surprised.
This has SO MUCH potential!
I don't like the Hitman games, but very excited about this!!
Oh that's sick as hell
Hitman is basically an excellent foundation for a good as hell James Bond game, but that probably means they're not going the action-focused route of GoldenEye 007 or the EA-era Brosnan games like Nightfire, Agent Under Fire and Everything or Nothing
Wow, this has come out of nowhere. Cool!
Hopefully a linear or wide-linear adventure. I wonder why now? Do they know who will be the next Bond? Perhaps it's completely separate from the films.
Bond has a lot of gaming potential and delete me right this could be class.
Probably talking a release date of 2025 mind so perhaps best to not get too excited.
š
I'm listening.
I remember playing Goldeneye when it first came out and thinking, "Now this is James Bond done proper." It would be cool if they gave us options on his appearance...I'd give it a go as Sean Connery, even though Roger Moore was my era's Bond.
@Col_McCafferty It's an original story.
Of course they are, lol.
I have no doubt IO will do a good job.
Awesome! Hope for some VR too.
This got potential to be a megahit !!
@get2sammyb Yes I got that but could still mean the next Bond is involved. I didn't ask it it was based on a film.
š
Probably not but just speculating. I think a Bond game should be set in modern times but for the next Bond films I kind of think they'd be better being period pieces and maybe go back to where they first started in the 60's.
Although a 60's set Bond game could be a thing of beauty.
@Col_McCafferty It seems to be seperate from both the books and the films considering it's a new interpretation of Bond's origins, which were explored previously in both Casino Royale and the Young Bond series by Charlie Higson. It probably won't feature the next live action film Bond considering that would cause a lot of confusion since it's meant to be standalone
Just kidding of course, sounds promising and a good match of studio to IP.
Driving sections in an Aston Martin please.
Brilliant and I can't think of a better developer to actually pull this off either
I thought Craig's Casino Royale was a kind of origin story for 007? Doesn't matter, as long as it looks decent I'll probably get it.
This is great, I hope the game has puzzle-like levels design like hitman/golden eye rather than action only like previous non-rare james bond š
Excellent news. I do enjoy the Bond movies and the PS2 era games. Plus IOI is a good developer choice for this, they should be able to make a quality Bond game.
The name's Bond. Agent 42.
This was unexpected. IO Interactive is the perfect developer for a new Bond game and universe. Very exciting. But the timing of the announcement is odd. I wouldnāt be surprised if this was originally planned to be revealed at the game awards.
R.i.p.sean Connery.i o is the best to make a james bond game.i play the psp bond game wad the last one i play.word up son
@Col_McCafferty I know that a while ago the bookies stopped anyone from betting on Tom Hardy being the next one because it was taken as a secret that had leaked out due to how many people suddenly started betting on it. Apparently they have at least offered him the role.
In before total chaos when it appears they're using the new Bond which is, of course, a woman.
@Matroska I think he's a great choice. An obvious one maybe but a great one nonetheless.
Who will direct though? Will it be Nolan? He's definitely up for a Bond film so the first one with Hardy in the lead role seems the most attractive choice.
What! this is so amazing. Well done IOI for acquiring this. Perfect people for making a Bond.
I hope they spend a significant amount of time deciding to choose Troy Baker as the next Bond. Kidding, of course, but seriously, I want the video game Bond to be just as iconic as the movies.
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes!!!!!! Best piece of gaming news in ages. I feared the licence had died in lawyer hell after Activision let it go... The last few bond games haven't been great but I just can't help playing them regardless. With IO making it, this could genuinely be the best bond game since Goldeneye!
this hopefully will be good. I'm probably the only one that really liked Blood Stone when it came out - thought the story was good and the driving parts especially fun.
Bald Bond? The names Bald, James Bald.
Oh this is amazing. The treyarch games were actually extremely fun so i am well up for this!
Hmm,potentially interesting licence given their Hitman pedigree. I wonder who's publishing it? I mean, it wouldn't be a cheap licence to get given older Bond titles were what Activision/E.A. etc. the last couple of console gens? (Last ones I played was Nightfire & Agent Under Fire on ps2!)
Really excited for this, Nightfire was just brilliant when I was younger. Goldeneye Rogue Agent.... wasnāt.
Now this is good news!!
@nessisonett Oh yeah that one game when they became desperate once Brosnan was ousted from the role lmao
@TheFrenchiestFry Honestly most of the Bond games made by EA were great, it was just that one rubbish one.
@nessisonett Yeah Rogue Agent was basically them trying to scramble for a reason to hold onto the IP rights for longer when Brosnan exited the role, so they took the cheap route and tried to play with people's nostalgia for the N64 game
But instead of GoldenEye it was literally a Golden Eye
This is great news. Just recently watched all the bond movies in order and really enjoyed revisiting them. Its about time another great bond game was released and i think IOI could deffo pull it off. Exited for this.
Be great in vr if they do this even if its an add on later down the line
@Bartig Not to be pedantic but she's the new 007. Not Bond.
(Yes the title is project 007 so it could be a woman).
I am so excited about this.
@johncalmc me too. Hitman 3 was my most anticipated game... now it's not!
Well I guess it is a type of game up there alley.
This is huggggeeeee news! Ugh, Iām so pumped!!!!!
HYPE. I loved the James Bond films, the two Hitman films, and what little I have played of the original Hitman games!
Definitely looking forward to seeing more news about this.
I thought the video game licensing for James Bond was owned by Rare (Microsoft)?
