Not getting a PlayStation 5? No problem, as Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales still looks pretty bloody good on the PlayStation 4. This video shows the next-gen version’s Performance and Fidelity modes compared to the current-gen release, and it’s roughly the same – although there is a noticeable downgrade in asset quality and overall lighting.
The PS4 edition is also capped at 30 frames-per-second without the benefit of raytracing, of course, so there’s simply no question that it looks better on Sony’s new console. However, if you’re not planning to get a PS5 just yet, then rest assured that Insomniac Games has turned in another outstanding effort here, and you can still enjoy the title on your existing system – with a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade.

Insomniac are gods, baffles me how they manage to squeeze more juice year upon year out of this weak console.
Gonna wait till PS5 though to experience this in its full glory!
Insomniac games are really talented. PS4 version looks really good
Thank goodness! Can't wait to play this on PS4 and I'm very happy with the supposed length of the campaign.
Too many good games coming out this month and next, we are truly being spoilt for choice in these final months of this rollecoaster of a year.
@Kalvort Great games giving us all the escapism we need right now! 🙏
Yeah but you definitely can help me, can't you Push Square?
Am i right in saying that if i buy this digitaly on ps4 i can just download it to my ps5, get the 'upgraded' version but still have access to my ps4 copy on the old console?
It’s clear they showed mainly cutscenes to reduce the apparent differences. Show Spidey scaling a reflective building during gameplay and check the difference then.
One thing's for sure, I can't see the difference between performance et fidelity modes.
Massive props to Insomniac for having the PS4 version being close to the PS5 version in terms of graphics and whatnot.
@Cornaboyzzz You definitely will be able to on your TV.
Performance Mode is definitely the way to go (at least for me)
I mean Ray Tracing may be nice (especially after watching Digital Foundry's video) but 60fps just seem so much more quality
I think it's insane how much Sony's first party developers manage to get out of the PS4. If I'd never seen The Last of Us Part II or God of War before and someone showed me them and told me they were PS5 games, I'd believe them.
Amazing!
This haw it should be done. People who still ok with their PS4 or got a PS4PRO not that long ago should get a quality version.
Just mind blowing how much bang for the buck I got out of PS4. I could have easily kept playing there if I wanted.
But having the PS4 and PS5 being the same price its outrageous
Ps4 is still amazing in my opinion, and now with the amazing backwards compatibility of PS5 it makes the incredible back catalogue run even better!! Its a win win situation
All PS5 games need 1080p mode with 60 FPS with Ray tracing and all goodies turned on.
I'm getting it on PS5 for myself at launch and PS4 for my nephews Christmas. He loves Miles spider-man more than Peter so he will be chuffed!
@DonJorginho Their like Wizards at times.
@Bentleyma- just wait until we see the PS5 games from ND, Guerrilla, SSN and SP! And all the others when they drop their next gen only games
That's on a Pro, I'm guessing? Insomniac are my favourite dev, and I know they can work miracles, but that looks awesome.
Only real difference I can see is the hood on the coat.
It looks lovely on both systems, but I'm confused. At 2:41, the metal strut Miles hangs from looks better in ps5 performance mode than in fidelity mode. It's a higher rez texture. So the PS5 couldn't handle ray-tracing and the higher rez textures, instead using the same texture as the PS4? So fidelity mode is 4k at 30 and performance is 60 at 1080p? If so then why does fidelity mode have the lower texture? Which mode has ray-tracing?
Looks exactly the same. Loving the miles flavor and banter, probably story. But definitely could've been dlc. Can't wait to grab it as a PS hits. But if you haven't played the first one, grabbing the ultimate edition, that has both, is the way to go.
This is probably a dumb question but is it $40 on PS4? Or still $50?
@theMEGAniggle Yeah, it's exciting to think about. I'm hoping Ready At Dawn do a sequel to The Order: 1886. Imagine what they could do on the PS5, considering how amazing The Order: 1886 still looks.
Seriously, PS4 version looks amazing! Insomniac's developers are insanely good.
Because here in the UK PS5 launches on the 19th, is it worth to wait one week to avoid spoiling the first impression? Would you recommend to start playing it on a PS4 Slim and then beat it on a PS5?
Every time i read something about the ps5 i think to myself "i dont need it yet" just a little bit more. This comparison just solidifies my thoughts. I will wait well in to next year or longer now for a ps5.
Platinuming this on PS4 and when i get a PS5 in 2022 ill be ready to platinum it again
Too bad there's no PS4 Demon's Souls...yet.
@Bentleyma- unfortunately I think the order just made everyone think RAD couldn't do AAA games because of how much it kind of disappointed. I hope I'm wrong and we see a sequel but their recent games are just not good. And they got bought by Oculus sadly
@theMEGAniggle Aww that's a shame. I really enjoyed The Order: 1886. It's nice to play a linear game every now and then. I'd probably rank it among my favourite PS4 games.
@Bentleyma- yeah it was a great game to be fair, thought it was a nice little snippet of what they could do and a sequel would have been nicely welcomed
