Finally, the PlayStation 5 adds a new feature which displays your overall playtime in both next-gen and PlayStation 4 games. Interestingly, this data appears to be retroactive, so you’ll see the number of hours you’ve spent with titles tracking back years – and the figures appear to be generally accurate based on our findings thus far.
Sony appears to be pooling this data from its servers, so while we’re yet to test it, you may need to be connected to the PlayStation Network in order for your sessions to be logged. Nevertheless, it’s great to see the organisation finally surfacing this information, as various holiday promotions over the years have suggested it is collecting this data in the past.
You can find out more about the company's new console in our PS5 review through the link. Go on, give it a click!

Finally, time to be incredibly ashamed of the hours I put into games.
I'll take the credit for this one, thank you very much.
I can only imagine the shame I'll feel as I scroll through my PS4 collection. Ass Creed Odyssey 12,000 hours. The Witcher 3 400,000 hours. Skyrim Special Edition 12 million hours.
I might just never look at it.
@LiamCroft thank you for your service sir, you're doing the lord's work haha!!
Nice news. I'm curious what my most played game is, as there's a few that it could be.
This is some of the news that I've been waiting for! I've wanted this for twenty years. But as far as the PS4 goes, I wonder if that is still true if you play while not connected to the internet. For example, if I put 100 hours into a PS4 game in 2014 while never online, and then deleted the game to create space, does the PS4 still remember that, and then transfer that info to the PSN when I do connect? I guess we'll find out.
I love things like this. It's just a nice little thing to do on something like Steam or even the 3DS and see which games you've put the most time into.
I remember a couple of years back they did that video that showed you your top 3 games played, so it was clear it was being tracked. I think my top 3 were FIFA 18 with around 1500 hours, then NMS with 450 hours, then Red Dead 2 with 2 hours (but it had only been out 2 months at that point).
The other thing that comes to mind is that if the PS5 can do this, and do it for PS4 games, why can't we just go to the PSN and see the same info there?
Nice, can't wait to see my playtime for some games. I hope the timer stop when I press option/pause though
Oh man, such a small thing but something I wish the Xbox had. It does have stat tracking but on a game by game basis if the Devs implement it. System wide is better. In fact the 3DS is the best console for this so far which is pretty crazy.
Been asking for this for years.
Blessed Sony 🙏🏾
Someone fell asleep playing TLOU2?
YEEEEEESSSSS!!!!!!!! I love stupid stats like that! I've spent countless hours on PSNProfiles.com reminiscing at the countless hours I've spent getting trophies!
Really happy they added this, and for PS4 games too!
I know what I'll be doing while waiting for the firmware update to download on the PS5.
I'll keep tracking my times manually with a stopwatch and writing them down because old habits die hard lmao
Thrilled and a little terrified at the same time.
Estimates for
@Clemerek Please tell me you actually do this!
Oh dear. I don't think I want to know how long I spent in warframe or various disgaea world's.
Also, can others see this like on your friends trophy list??
@LiamCroft I do actually. Started doing it when I got into the habit of journaling and keeping a daily log.
Yes yes yes, a thousand times yes. Finally
@Clemerek That's amazing, I love it.
FINALLY!
This should not of taken this long to be a feature... but FINALLY!!
I kinda wish there was a total playtime that adds up all the games you've played... But at the same time I'm kinda glad that's not a thing.
@AJDarkstar Switch is so bad at it considering they had it way back on the Wii 15 years ago which did a much better job. 3DS perfected it as another person said, and even the Wii U was pretty good. I have the app installed so once a month I can see stuff, but even the app is limited. This sounds really good though.
@Clemerek I was keeping track of my Splatoon games that way. Not the normal ones just ranked battles. 1 night I got to B+ and lost like 15 matches in a row and sunk to like C+. I screamed at yelled so much my wife banned me form ever playing it again. No Splatoon 2 for me.
I'm all in for a playtime log though, 1 has never made me scream like a madman yet.
Can't wait to see my Binding of Isaac playtime. I have over 600 hours on Steam, and probably a good 250+ on PS4, at least.
This is bloody awesome, I have wanted this feature for ages, well done Sony.
Gulp! I do not want to see my Red Dead 2 play time.
@AJDarkstar I've always wanted Sony to do something, so I'll take it, whatever it is. Have you played The Witcher 3? That is the weirdest "Time played" location I've ever come across. The first 3x I wanted to see it I had to look around a bit. I think I know where it is now. Probably.
Omg I’m almost terrified to see what I’ve done on Binding of Isaac.. or Fallout 4.. can’t wait though!
@AJDarkstar Good decision. It's amazing looking on my standard PS4 and 1080p TV, wish it had a photo mode at times, which it might but I haven't found it yet after 110 hours, but I can only imagine how nice it would look on PS5. And there are some long loading screens here and there, and some cut scenes that people freeze but the voices keep going. So yeah, something nice to look forward to. I'm waiting on GoT and TLoU2 myself. Oh and Spiderman, I need my puddles. 🤣 OK basically just my backlog is huge as I'm still playing 5 year old TW3. Which I probably could have finished by now but I've been watching the news for 100 straight hours, even as I type this.
OK I'm distracted now so I'll go, my wife is yelling at me about what the people on TV are saying. Some day this lockdown is going to end.
About time. Now backport that to PS4 UI.
Finally! I have wanted this feature for so long. It was frustrating to only get to see some of the data in the year-end stats that Sony was releasing.
I wonder/hope this info will be available in a future PS4 update too, otherwise all my friends with ps5s will have more information about my play time than I do! (If you can see it on other people's profiles)
@ShogunRok And here i was being proud of my 200 hours with Dragon Quest Heroes 2.😆
@Bentleyma- Better that parents dont know about this feature. What if you 120 hours at your studies instead of 120 in HZD.😆
Nioh 2 already told me I played it 435 hours. That would be nice to find out about other games though.
Oh boy...do I really need to see the absurd hours I spent playing Fifa or Fortnite? oof
I like this feature on xbox when you get some sore loser you just beat calling you a basement dweller who needs to get a life to then go and check their games and see they have spent 100 plus days playtime on a game a year old on top of the rest of the games they play lol.. They soon shut up or come out with some ridiculous excuse like its my kids playing on my account haha sureee
Star Wars Battlefront 2 was my most played games as if last year but I stopped playing it in the summer. I reckon I put over 400 hours+ into it.
2nd might be the first Battlefront or maybe Red Dead 2 seeing as I only recently finished a second playthrough.
I like this feature, I like it a lot!
I’m a bit conflicted about this. On the one hand I love stats, on the other, it’ll make me feel I can’t pause a game to go have dinner or something because I’ll mess up the stats (and I’m completely OCD about stuff like that). I know it’ll never happen, but I hope they can stop the timer if they detect a game is paused.
is there an embargo on profile pages atm?
also mine are probably Rocket League, apex and Battlefields
My destiny 1/2 stats will be shameful. Without orbit/social space time it's over 4000 hours, with it's probably double. Oh the shame.
Now if only my iPad would tell me how many hours I've put into Azur Lane. The number would be disgustingly large.
@thefourfoldroot GLAD TO SEE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE!
Cool now i can look at how many hours of my life have been spent on my games instead of, i don't know...spending time with family or something
@AJDarkstar "do so before moving on, because there’s no going back."
Oh man, I hate that. Happened to me in Pikmin 3 and I never got over it. I missing at least half the fruit.
Problem is I'm drunk right now so I won't remember when the time comes in a year or 3, but thanks for the heads up just the same, I do appreciate the warning. I'll probably just play it then and stop when it ends.
Only time I stop gaming is when the hot pockets cool off, and my mom makes me go potty and eat my melatonin before bed.
@AJDarkstar TLoU2 right?
1 day down, about 700 to go.
@AJDarkstar I have the PS4 Slim, which I've heard is quiter, in a tv stand, and 5.1 surround sound w/ the subwoofer right next to the PS4 Slim and I can say I don't recall ever hearing fan noise. Not saying it isn't there, just that I'm drowning it out and therefore not bothered by it.
And I have no idea where to even put a PS5. Might have to wait for the Slim on that as well.
@AJDarkstar Still don't have a 4k tv, which is part of the reason I never needed a PS4 Pro. Will be chicken and egg I guess for PS5 and 4k tv, no point in having 1 w/o the other, but can't pay for both at once, will at least need a few months between those 2 purchases.
Nice, I've been wanting this for awhile to show off to some friends.
