Update: Cyberpunk 2077 does have a Performance Mode on PS5, and according to Deputy Editor Robert Ramsey – who now has the game – it runs fairly smoothly at 60 frames-per-second. Bizarrely, unlike the Xbox Series X, this is the only option available. With the build on Microsoft's system, you can also toggle to a Quality Mode, which drops the framerate to 30 frames-per-second but improves the overall resolution. It's unclear why this option is missing, but perhaps it's something CD Projekt RED plans to patch in at a later date.
Original Story: Looks like you’ll be able to toggle Cyberpunk 2077’s settings to get the kind of performance you want – well, on PS4 Pro and PlayStation 5 anyway. A leaked screenshot shared on Reddit from the Xbox Series X version of the game shows Performance and Quality options, which are fairly standard toggles on console games these days. While the images are clearly from a build running on Microsoft’s machine, we’d be flabbergasted if the settings weren’t also present on Sony’s systems.
In the menu, the game explains: “Choose between performance and image quality. In performance mode, framerate will be prioritised at the expense of image quality. In quality mode, framerate will be capped at a lower value to prioritise image quality.” The way the description is worded suggests Performance mode may target 60 frames-per-second, but we’ll need to wait for further confirmation on that front.
The person who shared the screenshot had the following insight to share: “I prefer Performance mode. The game runs at 60 frames-per-second with occasional dips (again pre-Day 1 patch). Resolution takes a hit but overall image quality doesn't suffer enough to justify playing this game at 30 frames-per-second in my opinion.” It’s worth remembering that, if you play on PS5, depending on how the game’s been designed, you should get the max possible settings across the board.

If performance is stable 60 then sure, that’s probably the better option. If it’s a bit ropey and quality is a stable 30 then that’s probably the better option. A stable framerate is way more tolerable regardless if it’s 30 or 60.
@nessisonett It legitimately needs to be an unlocked framerate, especially in consideration for PS5 and Series X. Otherwise there's no reason for it. If you're playing on PS4 Pro or the One X, it'll likely be best to simply play in the Quality Mode.
I've seen footage of the game running at a stable 60fps on the PS5.
It ain't a rumour.
So is there a ps5 version? Sorry i lost track months ago
I wonder how crossgen games run on basic PS4.
Has anyone in the UK got this game early? I received an email on Thursday saying its been despatched via RM first class (from The Game Collection). I suspect they'll hold it until release date though, but I hope I'm wrong.
@ClockDownRMe I’m just waiting for the PS5 version, I’d rather not have to worry about if the game will run and focus on the actual content of the game.
Honestly very surprised that it has a performance mode targeting 60fps. Given the ambition of the open world design, I thought it would be capped at 30 no matter what.
I assume that the PS5 will be able to push it to 60 while PS4 Pro will end up somewhere in between 30 and 60.
@ShogunRok would you like some footage? I have some of the PS5 version and it runs at a stable 60fps.
@Waa-Laa got the same email but they've announced it was a glitch and the games will be dispatched tracked 48 on the 8th
If we already get two exclusive modes for ps5 I really wonder what the next gen version of next year will include.
@DonJorginho I wouldn't mind seeing it as long it doesn't get anyone in trouble! But CDPR is taking any and all videos down before the 9th.
Performance made is most probably meant for PS5 owners. Can't see the PS4 or Pro doing 60.
I'll wait for the PS5 release.
@DonJorginho yeah, man. Share away if it ain't gonna get you a rap on the knuckles.
Im just gonna hang fire on this one for the full fat PS5 version to arrive. Seems like a lot of hours can be sunk into it and I think it makes sense to hang fire.
Hopefully the witcher upgrade arrives before then though.
I saw it on the xbox subreddit, the dude has the game so this is 100% legit.
I don't know how PS5 can't handle a PS4 game resolution mode at 60 though!
As long as quality mode has a solid 30 fps I'll take that. I'm not a fan of games dropping frames.
Noice!
Sounds like 60FPS on PS5 is the way to go.
Waiting for the PS5 release, it's nearly been a decade anyway, might as well wait a bit longer.
@AhabSpampurse @ShogunRok
Let me know if the link goes down, I'll make more mirrors.

Exactly what I was hoping for
@DonJorginho Looks nice and smooth, though the streets are pretty barren. Hopefully there are more bustling areas.
Leave the frame rate unlocked on performance and the quality mode dynamic 4k the ps5 will do the rest it will do until the ps5 update next year.
Base ps4 will probably be 30fps with the lesser image quality then
I will be going for the visual fidelity mode. I am perfectly fine with 30 FPS for a single player game.
@DonJorginho thanks dude, that looks great. Can't wait.
@DonJorginho This is stable 60 fps, but how can you proof that it‘s not a PC footage?
I have this pre ordered on Xbox (Series S) but thinking of getting this for my PS4 Pro instead. The Series S should technically run the game better with a similar GPU and better CPU but because it will run the Xbox One S versions and not the One X version I am concerned it will very much be a 1080p 30fps situation. I feel like I might have more options with the PS4 pro (getting PS5 next year).
Edit: problem solved I should be getting a PS5 this week!
@Max_the_German As PC Copies can't leak. They're digital only and only come available once the worldwide servers allow them to.
Console discs can obviously be played whenever you receive them, also you can see the visible lack of RTX that PC would have, and the obvious Dualsense button prompts.
I wouldn't be sure the ps5 version has it..it's likely but you can never be sure.
I just can't wait till Microsoft implements their version of "DLSS" which will be open source so devs can tweak it to make it better and better. Just like they did with Tress-fx. It looks much better than hairworks and uses like 15% less resources and that's because it's open source.
@Matroska according to those who played the game, this is a part of the city under military lockdown at the start of the game. I've seen images that have now been deleted by CDPR that show bigger crowds (not as big as pre release trailers for E3 but much bigger to feel alive) from later on in the game.
Also Hideo Kojima is actually in the game and you can meet and talk with him!
I'll gladly wait for the next gen versions. Witcher 3 wasn't great at launch, so I'm sure there'll be some major patches the first couple months anyways
@Yaycandy Cd project red did say there's next gen versions in the works and common free upgrade if own it anyway on ps4 or xbox one ect
@ShogunRok it's likely just for ps5 and Series X lol
@DonJorginho you sir, are one of the eggs that are good.
@Matroska @DonJorginho yeh I thought the same looked dead. Hopefully it's a bit more populated in other areas.
@AhabSpampurse Many thanks my friend, I take mine poached 😎
@DonJorginho Thank you! Didn‘t see the Dualsense button prompts. I am just surprised that they didn‘t show 60 fps gameplay in the Xbox and Playstation trailers. I expected 30 fps and wanted to wait for the PS5 patch in 2021, but now I can hardly resist. 😍
Some of the ps pro games have the option of performance over image quality.so it shouldn't be a problem for them.
I'm pretty worried about this game running on a standard PS4, which us what I have, especially with the recent preview video only showing PS4 Pro and PS5 footage. I think I'm gonna wait on this until I get a PS5
I think 60 will only be effective on PS5. The PS4 pro is still very CPU limited. If PS4 can deliver a stable 30 fps that will be a good result. That said this is the perfect game for PS5 to stretch is legs so will need a 60 fps open in its PS4 code to allow that option.
I know I'm certainly "wrong" here, but it would really depend on how well quality mode is. I waited for PS5 to play Spiderman in "60fps" only to be so impressed by the graphics mode that I haven't switched back.
Granted a 3rd person button masher isn't the same as a FPS/TPS/THPS. Hard to sell even great 30fps in those.
@Darylb88 the Xbox s is the worst out of them all isn't it, watched a digital foundry video and it performs worse than base Xbox
@NathanUC Really?. 60fps over Ray Tracing all day long. I took a look at both Spiderman games on my PS5 at launch and after 60fps there is no going back...feels like running through soup in 30fps....and to think. We put up with 30fps for years on consoles....
This game is not a looker unfortunately so 60fps will be my go to mode. Is there any more ways they can screw up the launch. Some of the bug compilations are hilarious. It truly is Cyberbug2077.
Fortunately I prefer 60 fps compared to 30 fps 😃
Imo stable 60 > over hi Res 30 if the image quality drop isn't too bad.
Highest fps always
Better that than being forced to play on 4K30fps since I prefer 60fps, but it's still weird that there is no option unlike the XSX has
Microsoft have the marketing deal for the game here in the U.K. (and I presume globally) so, yeah, that’s your reason right there for the greater focus on Xbox features. I’m sure the quality mode with be quietly patched in after launch.
Need base ps4 run ability. Will it even be worth it or wait until I purchase a ps5?
@Rhaoulos smooth as butter Sir smooth as butter just seen footage from N.Z.
@Elodin Base PS4 footage live https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybdYZy16IzI
@Darylb88 congrats!
10hrs 53 minutes
Oooh mine just landed on my doormat. Finally I can do something productive today.
@get2sammyb I have the game downloaded on my PS5 but still curious to see if this runs at 60fps on the PS4 pro. Has Robert tried the PS4 pro version?
My best guess around why quality mode is missing from the PS5 version is because it's not in the PS4/PRO versions and It is a port of the PS4 Pro version.
From what I know Microsoft have different versions of the game (Durango, Scarlett) and the hardware lets you download the relevant version. I think the PS5 version is literally the exact same file and not a separate version.
If CDPR made another copy with the update in it, Sony may have to then list it as a separate PS4 version on the store and things could get confusing.
Sony seem to have the PS4 vs PS4pro version down but maybe they haven't figured out how to do PS4 to PS5 yet?
All guesstimates
@ORO_ERICIUS Thank you!
After being pretty dismissive of it in the past, 60fps really does make a difference. In Demon’s Souls the combat felt so good.
So yeah, I will defo be playing Cyberpunk 2077 in performance mode.
So the game isn’t running at 4K on PS5? It’s going to look so blurry and awful
@Yaycandy Yep and its coming in 2021
Isn't it getting a Next gen version later...?
I'd assume that's where these options would come in
@Mezzer I've switched back an forth throughout the whole story, but always decided fidelity was worth it. The city looked so much for flat in performance mode. I would love to see some 1080p/60 with fidelity options enabled. I think it also helped a ton turning off motion blur. That game looks like absolute soup with that enabled. I should also say, I'm generally on the pickier side since I'm used to 120/144hz/fps gaming from my PC. Some games just don't need 60+ imo
I'd imagine its down to the PS4 Pro probably being a lower resolution than the One X meaning it doesn't have a high resolution mode to start with. When the true next gen versions come I'd imagine those options will exist
@Darylb88 I doubt it's 60fps on Pro, they seem to be able to change the framerate in the background on PS5 as with both Days Gone and Ghost of Tsushima doing so. I'd agree with you on the resolution front as its unlikely the Pro would have the same resolution of One X, so they likely didn't have a 4K version to work with for PS5 bc
@Number09
Finally signed up on here (after years!) to say thank you mate for the link. That’s good enough for me on ol’creaky PS4.
@weegiebored your welcome Sir......He is a chilled out guy and tries to answer most Questions.
@Number09
I became more chilled too when I switched off the “chat” he is doing a good job filtering out the detritus! I’m zipping back and forth trying not to spoil any fun after a long long wait.
@carlos82 So this game isn't even running at 4K or scaled 4K on PS4 Pro/PS5? It is going to look horrible on my high end 4K TV then
@Wormold The definitive way to play is on the target platform, PC. But I agree, I'm curious to see how much they can amp up the game on PS5.
@jmac1686 very few games are 4K on PS4 Pro, it'll still look good but I wouldn't have thought it would be above 1440p
Anyone elses playable in countdown saying only 2hrs left??
Well thats a bit strange
Well, this is slightly disappointing. With that being said, it will be added sooner or later and hopefully is still 4K.
@Wormold pretty sure they don't have a review copy... Or at least they didn't at time of this article's publication.
www.pushsquare.com/news/2020/12/site_news_wheres_our_cyberpunk_2077_review
This seems like an oversight, I don't see why the quality mode would be intentionally disabled. Expect a patch soon.
I'm a bit confused is it a toggle to turn on performance mode as surely turning it off is quality mode ?
@AFCC it can but cd project red havent patched it yet
@vapidwolf I'm playing on PS5 and there are no menu options for toggling anything - it must just 'be' in Performance Mode. Literally no quality vs performance option in the menus on PS5.
@SamboNZ interesting to see what the series x actually runs at
Performance mode is the only mode. They'll surely improve graphics with the PS5 version, if not before.
@bbauer36 judging by Reddit comments CDPR have MANY MANY things to patch out lol people are fuming. If it was EA or Square Enix (Avengers) people would be playing other thing already
It's a ***** show on console. Poorly optimised. Even on PS5 its 60fps but at times there are bad dips and stutters, not to mention bugs. Red Dead 2 was superior at launch and pushes better visuals and designs....
Project Red are highly overrated and always have been. The Witcher 3 was a shambles at launch on console...Geralts movement is still shockingly bad and stilted. Cyber ,after all the delays and time has been clearly pushed to show off the highest spec PCs....consoles were a 2nd thought....at least until the true PS5 and SX updates are released.
