Month in, month out, we all sit here and react to the new PlayStation Plus games. Sometimes they're really good, sometimes they're frustratingly bad. Sometimes our readers think they're absolutely crap — as evidenced by the public PS Plus polls that we host on the site every month!
But we're not here to discuss the quality of Sony's subscription service today. Instead, we have just one simple question that we'd like to put forth: do you actually play your monthly PS Plus games?
We think it's an interesting query. We've all had a good moan about certain title selections at one point or another, but are we even playing these games to begin with? Or are we just adding them to our library and leaving them there forever?
Vote in our poll, and then give us an honest answer in the comments section below.

I play them less and less since I have PS Now. I'm probably not renewing my subscription.
I've played very few games on PS Plus over the course of the PS4. Generally speaking I've already played or wasn't bothered about a game long before it hits the service. So the only games I've got any use out of are things like Rocket League or Fall Guys which launched as part of PS Plus and I suspect Destruction All Stars will be the same.
Don't have PS+ cause I don't play online and the free games aren't worth it cause I already own most games I'm interested in
I have Plus only due to Online is tied to it but I do play most of the games attached to it.
I've finished King Oddball, because it was first game I've took from ps plus and than.... really cannot remember a lot, Rayman, CUBE, The Witness, Edit Finch, Ethan Carter... I think that's all I've finished. Other plus games wait in backlog, or I already owned.
I’ve already got the platinum on most of those games so not right now maybe later I’ll go through them again
I have (almost) never played a PS+ game (Contrast and Resogun being the exceptions).
That isn't to say that I haven't played a handful of the PS+ titles; but I played my own copies of them.
I don't play them as much as I did on PS3, I always add to library though as sometimes I get into a slump and don't know what to play and nice having them there just in case I need them. Usually I have bought what I want to play and only get a couple of games from plus where I have been 50/50, still think I get my money worth through the sales and online play every now and then. Think I would prefer if they dropped the free monthly games and just swap it with ps now tbh.
Since the month of Battlefront 2 and whatever else it was I've played Battlefront 2 (a decent amount), Hollow Knight, Fall Guys and Vampyr. I also have The Last Guardian installed ready. There is a couple I have 0 interest in, but I plan to play majority of them eventually, Just Cause 4 included.
Looked through the list of 2020 games and I actually didnt play a single one. Half of them are games I already had, and the other I had no interest. Closest I came to playing one was Fall Guys but you couldnt invert Y axis at launch and once it was patched in I stopped caring
@Jayslow You live up to the name of the slow Jay, 30 seconds behind my comment ;P
Yeah playing the crash bandicoot remaster between playing assassins creed valhalla. Now that ubisoft have fixed ps4 to pa5 upgrade, for me anyway
I play a good amount of them. Some (Dead By Daylight) have actually been games I’ve spent a lot of time with when I never would have considered buying. I definitely want to play Hollow Knight at some point.
I’d say I play them all but honestly 90% of them are still in my backlog.
I fully intend to at least try them all, but the list keeps growing 😂
Depends on the game. I haven't got around to it yet, but I'm really looking forward to Bugsnax. I enjoyed Fall Guys earlier in the year, and I want to check out Worms Rumble.
For me it's probably more that I'm in a very privileged position where I can buy the games I want. Having PS Plus as a kid would have been mental.
Honestly I hardly ever play them. My backlog is huge and I buy what I want mostly. A lot of the time if it's a big game on Plus I already own it. And if I don't it's unlikely to crack the backlog.
I had a go on Fall Guys but I can't remember what the last PS Plus game I played before that was.
@get2sammyb couldn’t have put it better my self sir .
I’m excited for bugsnax too I was blown away that they included ps5 so soon with such a small library at this point I can see us getting some gems over the next few months
Depends on the game. If it’s good or I was going to play it anyway then absolutely. If it’s something rubbish then probably not.
They used to be so good but now it is just lackluster, in size and quality.
Maybe. Finished Tomb Raider and Read only Memories recently. At the same time there are loads that I haven't touched.
It's the thing that makes me think Game Pass might not be so great, if I haven't gone out of my way to choose to buy and play a game it has a very short time to sell itself to me.
Rarely ever play these games, only signed up for it recently so I can play Demon’s Souls online. I am however really enjoying the PS plus collection on PS5 because there are a good chunk of those games I have yet to play. Wish they’d just make online play free TBH, it’s ridiculous that we have to pay for it.
I give many a shot... but only keep playing a few. There have been MANY that I have had ZERO interest in. But for the cost if I get 3 - 5 games per year I feel like I broke even. If I could get more than 6 I would be really pleased.
@nessisonett exactly the same - when stuff from my wishlist comes up on PS plus it's a huge bonus. I was going to buy Bugsnax day one anyway so when it was free on Plus I effectively just saved £17.99 so even if I play nothing on plus for 5 months now it's still even.
For other games, like this month's Worms, I tried it once, hated it, never think of it again and that's OK too.
What your subheading says.
Missing the option for “my kids often play them”
@ApostateMage Same here. Always add them to Library, very rarely ever play them. Though I will probably play Bugsnax whenever I get a PS5.
From memory, Hitman, Detroit Being Human and Resident Evil 1 are the only PS+ games I've got into and played to completion.
I usually redeem them, at least. And then I try to try them but that doesn't always happen. Even then the only game I can remember finishing is Tomb Raider. Still off and on with Outlast 2, though, to be fair.
Hi there fellow gamers. Yeah, I give most PS Plus games a try. At least once.
Like Bugsnax for example. If it wasn´t for PS Plus, I wouldn´t gave it a go and to my surprise, it is a very interesting, clearly bizarre, but fun game to play evry now and then.
An the PS Plus games collection on PS5 is a must for PS5 early adopters coming from PC, Nintendo and Xbox.
Some of the best Playstation exclusives are available, as well as some cool multiplatform games.
All and all, it is a good way to try out some different games you normaly wouldn´t play right away.
And it does help when we find a hidden gem sometimes.
Cheers, stay safe and happy gaming to us all
Very rarely do I play any plus games, as I only play games I purchase, games I own really, if I don't own the game I can't get into it, if I can get it disc then that's my preference, I don't really like this digital age of downloading games, as you can't own them, you're only paying for the rights to play that game, if you wanna play them in future and the servers no longer exist it's tough unless you already have it installed
Of the 70 or so games I've redeemed on PS4, I'd guess I've never downloaded around 40. Of the remaining 30, I would maybe buy 5-7. Maybe 10 games I bought were added to Plus after my purchase. I still feel it's a cost effective way to try games you wouldn't otherwise spend $$ on but I do tend to redeem games I know I have zero interest in. I also do not redeem everything.
G) "Not really, I subscribe purely to access Online play."
@Ear_wiG you'll pay for it either through plus or higher game prices. The alternative is every dev doing their own thing on their own servers leading to having to pay individually for each online game, inconsistencies in quality, connection issues, etc. These are greatly reduced by having PS online under one umbrella.
Rarely... PS+ is to play with friends and fam I do not see that often.
I play most of them, although less over the past few years. This is not to do with the quality of them so much as the ever growing library of games I now own, which is turn is largely driven by ps+ and deep discounts on PSN sales!
It's why I'd never go for something like gamepass....the choice paralysis would be crazy, and that combined with the rotation of non MS stuff would make it all seem too much like work to me.
Plus at least gives me online and cloud saving on top of the games anyway. The argument that those features 'should' be free is moot because they're not ever likely to be and you either pay up or don't have online.
I used to back in the PS3 days but then during the PS4, I haven't played very many as I've been buying too many which I can't keep up with. Just a few selected titles over the years. The rest are saved in the library for another day which never comes.
Now that PS5 games cost £70, I see myself buying less so I will probably have more time now to play PS plus games again. Played Bugsnax from it and loved it!
I only played Nioh and Hollow night.
Also I really din't like games with paywalls or multiple dlc are offered in ps plus. They're like free but they aren't really.
None of those answers..........
I play all the ones that interest me that i haven't played in the past.
I generally have a scan through your reviews first. But there are so many only a really dedicated gamer could play them all.
But this can take years for me.
Still playing hollow knight voidheart edition.and last week i did play vampyr.cod ww2.and darksiders 3.word up son
They should combine Plus and Now and give you some kind of credit so you can buy whatever game that you desire otherwise you always end up with games that you don’t care to play or try not even for free, but the ones that I like I do play
I play them all, but for how long is the question...
I only have PS+ to play online. Wish they would offer a cheaper service to do only that; really not bothered about the games most of the time. Still find it shocking that they charge to play online at all!
I've been signed up to plus since November 2014. I've picked up almost every game that's been on offer since then (the few exceptions being either titles I already own, or have watched a trailer and been compelled to avoid)
I can honestly say, at least 75% of the games I picked up are still in the backlog, and will probably never see the light of day.
By the time a game I'm interested is on Plus I've already played it. Fall Guys is the only PS Plus game from this year I recall playing, and even then I played it for a week and then haven't touched it.
Rarely with the games getting most time being Rocket League and Fall Guys. I currently also have Darksiders 3 on the go from it but yeah its rare i play them, the main reason is the games they give out what i actually like i usually already have.
For me Plus is for online and for the various discounts on PSN.
Barely ever. Only new games like Fall Guys and Rocket League. I'm looking forward to trying Destruction All-Stars.
The rest is either stuff I already have or stuff I'm not interested in so never bought lol
I stopped renewing ps plus 6 months ago. I don’t play online & the games offered on plus are not expensive so, if I really wanted to play them, I’d just buy them. I have signed upto ps now-which is fantastic & very underrated for what it offers. I don’t think I’ll ever get plus back on, but I will always keep ps now going.
I don't have plus as I mainly play single player games and have quite the backlog anyway. However I've just booted up my ps4 to see its forcibly installed fortnite season 5 on my main menu (having never played fortnite) I find things like that annoying!
@Jmck87 its just an icon, nothing installed. I agree its annoying but not a do or die situation
When I first got my PS4 I played the PS Plus titles and got some great times in with Everyone’s Gone to the Rapture, Invisible Inc and a few others, but since then, I’ve only played the PS exclusives I’ve missed or the brand new indies. If we got just one new indie game each month instead of old stuff, I’d be more likely to play the PS Plus titles
@cycologist I know just rude lol like a mid YouTube advert certainly not do or die
Unfortunately, there haven't been all that many that I've been interested in in the year (this week) that I've been a member. There were actually a number leading up to that point where I would have played them, and that's what lead me to join, only to see the quality change to ones I either already had or didn't want afterwards. Bad luck on my part, I guess. And I have absolutely zero backlog now, so I'm really looking for worthwhile games.
It's kinda line sloppy seconds innit!?
My case, i played and finished 75% of them and, i try to get the same game and keep it sealed, while i play the digital one and keep the sealed game for collection
I’ve usually bought or played them by the time they show up on PS+. Doesn’t bother me at all because I buy the membership for $30 specifically for the discounts and online play. Anything else is just an added bonus for me.
We’re all in different situations and approach our gaming differently, but I can never get worked up about what PS+, Gold, GamePass, etc are offering because they’re curated services.
I would rather buy and play the games I want to play, instead of moaning about lackluster choices every month.
I try to but I have like 100 hundred on PS4 alone, let alone Vita and PS3 that I still haven't played. I don't want to renew my sub in May as I rarely play online but I do want to play these games and get my money's worth.
I wish the online portion was cheaper or free by itself, then I could justify just buying that for the odd time my mate wants to have a game online without having to worry about a time limited back log slowly building up
In the two years I've had it I've probably played about ten games, so I've got the monies worth. I only sign up to it because they lock online behind the sub though, I'd much rather go back to free online play as I only really play From Software games online. I prefer going to a store and finding bargains on games I've missed instead of building up a library of rented games I'll lose if I decide not to sub anymore.
The online sub still feels forced and controlling even if it is good value. It would be interesting to see how many people would still sub if online play was made free again.
@Arckadius hmmm. Bugsnax 🤔
I have a PS5 (luckily), and this one is firmly in the back catalogue 🤣
I don't claim what I don't want. Those I do claim, I do play... but when I play them depends on what else I'm playing at the time. I claimed Until Dawn, but have yet to play it... same with Mafia 3.
I literally only pay it for online play on the scarce occasion that I play with my friends.
Games I want to play I buy so usually by the time I game I want comes to PS Plus I already played it.
I just platted bugsnax.
And... Wow that's the only one I played from the offerings this year.
Didn't know that.
OH well. Got a lot in the backup pile I guess.
I have added Mortal Kombat X and Worms Rumble and have immediately regretted it.
Last i saw I think it was 244 games I have from PS Plus. I am happy as long as I find 3-4 games I want to play from PS Plus per-year.
I play a majority of the psplus games, especially when they are titles i normally wouldn't play. It's usually a nice change of pace from the games I play on a regular basis
I don't have enough time too finish my own games let alone the Plus games.
I’ve lost count of the number of PS+ games I’ve downloaded and then deleted a month later to free up space without actually playing them. My subscription expired this month and I’m not regretting passing on a renewal even with the 25% BF discount
Basically have Plus for the multiplayer and the sales discounts. I rarely download the free games though I do add them to the library.
Haven't even looked at the PS Plus Collection on the PS5 yet. Too much new stuff to play.
I would say the only Plus game I have played regularly is Rocket League. The rest are in the library.
I find it a bit of a waste of time. If I really want to play a game I usually have bought it already.
Sometimes I get a nice surprise, for instance Meat Boy or Gone Home, but I will support the developers and buy those games outright.
Resident Evil , Gone Home, Journey, and Rime are games from Plus i have played in 4.5 years of having plus. I have yet to download Mad Max or play my most recent download, Tomb Raider. There have been about 4 or 5 i downloaded and then deleted after about 20 minutes.
For me Plus games are mostly games i already have or games i do not want. I only keep Plus because it is required to play online.
I've hit that saturation point where I either already own the game before they give it away or I wasn't going to play it anyway, even for "free." I don't have enough time as is. But I prepaid my Plus account from black friday deals years ago so I think it's still good for at least another year.
I usually at least try psplus games that I'm interested, but I already have a lot of games from my backlog. I like it if psplus games is new games like bugsnack, I hope psplus next games is more new good indies rather than old AAA games that's probably already discounted a lot of times already.
I picked "rarely", as there is no option for "some" (for reasons I don't understand). I try some of them, few do I play through.
I hardly play any of them but I do add them to my library.
That said I do intend on playing Bugsnax and I will be checking out a couple from the PS+ collection as I never got around to them on PS4 (I'm looking at you Bloodborne).
Use the PS+ for online, so the games are a bonus (I suppose).
Most of the games are a bit 'meh' if you don't like the genre, and there have been quite a few of these this year.
I've added a few to my library over the years and downloaded a few of those but not to the extent that I did in the PS3 and Vita included era.
@get2sammyb great point. It's top value for a teenager who can get Plus for Xmas then a guaranteed 24+ titles in the coming year for <£50. Would've loved that back in the days of £39.99 to buy (the awesome) Streets of Rage.
as someone who has never played a Sony exclusive other than Spiderman (100%) and Horizon (played about 20 hours), I have subscribed just to get access to all the PS4 titles on PS5. Playing GOW at the moment and can't wait to get into AT LEAST another 6-7 that are available. Going to play the lot of them, that way by the time that's happened there might actually be some decent dedicated PS5 title to play
I add everything to the library, probably end up properly playing about 2-3 of them a year.
I'm most thankful for the family games it's given, like Overcooked and Sonic. Had a few joyful sessions with the kids on games I wouldn't have bought otherwise.
Think the last ps plus game i actually played after downloading was deus ex? Maybe the last of us remake. Either feels like a loooong time ago. Mostly just have it for coop gaming with friends online and the occasional discount.
Ps3 was the glory days when I would legit play just about every downloaded game. Probably because the quality was, generally, better and the selection more diverse. Guess ps3 just had more games to choose from!
I'm always giving a shot to games I've never played or heard of (that was the beauty of ps+) unless it's Combat or Sports games.
Most of them, unless they're not very playable in terms of controls. And the gamble around said controls is mainly why my PS4 collection barely grows outside of PS+ these days.
I usually just play what it gives me as I dont buy a lot of games.
If the game's weren't garbage I'd play them more
They are usually such poor and unimaginative choices that they never get downloaded. Tbh, given the farce of PS5 and how Sony have just facilitated scalpers ripping so many normal people off just looking for one for their kids for xmas, with no strategy to stop it, and the endlessly poor games on PSplus, Sony are really losing their lustre for me and I have never had any other console brand.
And let's be honest the PS5 is really very ugly and overdesigned. It looks like a cheap vase.
I feel like none of the options cover the only obvious answer most people would have, which is to say it's not a situation of whether you play most of them or play none of them but rather it depends on which ones you want to play.
The options here make it sound like PS Plus games are some sub-genre of game that is somehow different from other games. If the free ones are a game I've been wanting and want to play, I'll play it. If they're things I've already played or something I never want to play, I won't play it. Simple as that and probably true for most people.
I just keep adding them to my backlog (I mean library), never to be played fully for years...however Plus has still saved me so much money.
Between the free games and the store discounts, I definitely make back my money and then some.
