Shopping the PS Store this holiday? You may as well give up on Sony’s official web-based effort, as it’s held together by Sellotape and Blu-Tack. And even if you own a spangly new PlayStation 5, then there’s a strong chance you won’t be able to see the latest round of discounted games, as there’s a lottery on whether you see the correct banner ad apparently.
Just give up, and use one of these third-party alternatives instead. We’ve been singing the praises of PSPrices.com for a while, as it allows you to see game price history and filter based on discounts. It also compares digital game prices to physical game prices, and you can subscribe to titles you’re interested in to get email updates when they’re reduced.
Alternatively, a reader contacted us about their effort: PlatPrices.com. This works similarly to PSPrices.com, but one advantage it has is that it also includes information on how long each title will take to beat and how difficult you can expect the challenge to be. A perfect option for Trophy hunters, then.
Both websites are faster and easier to navigate than Sony’s official option, and they include tons of filtering options, allowing you to sort by discount percentage, base price, release date, and much more. At this point, we’d recommend you give up on PlayStation’s solution and use one of these alternatives instead – a sentence which, frankly, should leave the Japanese giant embarrassed.

I love PSPrices. Other thing to note is that it covers Switch and Xbox games too, so you can manage your wishlists all in one place and get email updates for all systems when games go on sale.
I like platprices especially the sort by reviews section thanks for this
Oh, that PlatPrices one will come in real handy. Thanks for the heads up!
My favorite will always be the physical stores no contest. Service, discounts, physical copy and options too trade in and sell on my games.
Boy that PSPrices website works pretty nice.
Well I don't really shop on the PS Store web anyways but on PS4 it showed up early and it was flawless, dunno bout PS5. It seems as though certain things haven't been ironed out for PS5 really, for example the icon with the "P S 5" not the console icon, to show someone is playing on that console is still shamefully a dragged out blurry icon looking like it was done by an amateur image editor. Like, just get the sizes right to fit.
I sometimes wonder if the official store is so flaky because all these unofficial sites are constantly scraping the data. 🤔🤣
The official web store is working for me at the moment - all prices and buttons are showing, and it's pretty quick to respond.
They are not "unofficial stores". You don't and can't buy anything from them. They are comparison tools. How hard is it to write a simple article with accuracy and without misleading click bait titles?
@man_of_ps How hard is it to not be rude on a fan site.
@L3GTRIGA Quite easy as long as "journalists" write accurate articles not clickbait with false titles.
Ps prices is what I’ve always used but they seem to have messed up their redesign too. You can no longer search for PSVR games with U.K. pricing, only US. Probably something to do with VR not being counted as it’s own platform for some reason.
@L3GTRIGA Yeah @man_of_ps could have been more tactful but they aren't wrong I guess.
Somewhat off topic but I think it's funny how many people deride the idea of paying $60 to be a beta tester for a new release but think it perfectly reasonable to buy a PS5 at launch. All the issues it seems to have (the broken store just one among them) I can't see how it's all that different.
PlatPrices doesn't really work similarly to PSPrices, in that it's missing the most import feature, which is the historical lowest price so you can ensure you're not overpaying for the game.
Fun fact: PlatPrices was originally called PS5Storefront, I guess the owner got an email from Sony's lawyers and had to change it! XD
haven't used the new website at all, barely ever used the old store website much.. never saw the need to, because generally i don't buy much digitally.. and if i did, i'd be downloading it from my PS4, so i just buy it from the PS4. i always use redeemable codes anyway. as for sales on the PS5, it is literally two buttons presses to see the latest sale (or at least the first twenty featured titles.. bit of scrolling required to see them all). still cheaper to buy many of the big AAA games on disc than the digital sale price, making the store irrelevant in those cases anyway.
@zupertramp
Hardware issues are under warranty. Things like UI design, well, it’s quite fun to see the changes and progression. Broken store is absolutely nothing to do with the console and could not have been anticipated (it’s also no big deal for early adopters, but joe public who doesn’t read sites like this to know about deals and such more do).
Definitely would recommend PSPrices.
I highly recommend PSPrices. It does everything the new webstore does not. It includes pictures and videos of the games, and it has a wishlist. I even added all the games on my Switch wishlist, and if a game is available on XBox, I added that version too in case something goes on sale on XBox and not PSN. I recently bought Shantae and the Seven Sirens on Xbox instead because it went on sale.
You can even see all the new games that came out recently on all 3 systems in one place. I don't have to check each store individually anymore.
@thefourfoldroot firstly, no worries I didn't mean anything by it. I might have bought a PS5 if I hadn't recently bought a Pro (or I might have at least put in the effort to try and buy one). Also I figured I'd just wait until there's a bigger library of games.
But I disagree the broken store doesn't have to do with console. It works fine (ish) on the PS4 because it's the same old PS store. The revamped version only exists because of the next gen. I get it's also the web store now but that's still on account of the PS5.
And game fixes are also a progression. Which was kinda my point. People pre-order games figuring the kinks will be worked out over time same as early adopters to the newest console. Like, I guess I just don't understand folks who criticize one but not the other.
Hardware issues are another matter that I wasn't really including.
Edit: like this needs to be any longer but i should clarify, i have some of the users in mind that i see going hard on how stupid everyone is for pre-ordering cyberpunk and some of these same people talk about having ps5s. just seems hypocritical, almost.
@zupertramp
I see where you’re coming from, but consoles don’t stop “progressing” as games do. Wait a couple of months and a game will likely no longer be worked on, to wait until a console is “finished” will mean waiting years.
More significantly, console issues also don’t really impact the user experience as much as a game like Cyberpunk will by being essentially unplayable on some versions. At most you’ll get the occasional crash (which I haven’t) and put up with a disc spin sound every hour (which I do).
The PSN store / web store / app is not platform dependant. Things may have changed when the PS5 was launched, but having a PS5 or not makes no difference to the experience. As such it’s not really relevant to your point.
Not Sellotape and Blu-Tack.......im screaming lmao
Thank you for this!
