We may still be waiting for Cyberpunk 2077 to be allowed back on the PlayStation Store following its disastrous launch in December last year, but there's no getting around the fact that the game sold ridiculously well. Not long after its release, news broke that the open world title had topped 13 million copies, and now, a report from SuperData claims that Cyberpunk 2077 had the biggest digital launch of any game. Ever.
According to the number-crunching company, that's based on both digital revenue and digital units sold. State of the product aside, it's an impressive achievement, and just goes to show how effective the game's marketing campaign has been over the last few years.
Despite Cyberpunk 2077's obvious commercial success, developer CD Projekt Red has promised that it'll continue to update and improve the title over the coming months. The game's next update is expected to arrive before the weekend is out.

Well of course marketing campaigns are effective if they blatantly lie. Anyone with the slightest knowledge of politics knows that lies sell.
And some people say "I feel bad for CDPR"
This is actually incredibly sad considering the state the game launched in. I cannot believe the people who created The Witcher crapped this turd out. Don't pre-order, folks.
Also record number of refunds ๐๐
And the moral of this story is "don't pre-order kids"
Completely forgot this game existed, glad I don't have to see thousands of videos anymore of people giving it moist kisses. I'll still eventually get the PS5 version when is severely discounted...maybe.
Yes yes alot of us simpletons got had by CDPR. Now how many of us are preordering RE8 Village? lol
''According to the number-crunching company''
@ShogunRok Well done sir, well done.
Who is still waiting for this non-game ?
It was on pre-order for two years on PS Store then it was pulled.
It is over.
@benok77 me. I only started being interested in it once I heard how bad it is. Waiting for the price to go down more though.
Lies. Deception. Scum
Caveat followed by record returns.
By my math, the patch SHOULD arrive today. Of course, that hinges on the idea that they told the truth in the video 10 days ago that said it'd come within the next ten days.
I mean, they wouldn't lie, would they?
Also, I've just read the comments above, and I'm guessing all of you combined have less than 10 hours put in to the game.
I'd say it's got among the best open-world storytelling, characters, and dialog writing out there. And Night City itself is an amazing construction.
If you really tried it and it wasn't for you, that's fine. But if you're one of these bandwagon jumpers who just mindlessly spouts what they've heard from others, shame on you.
I'm still waiting on my refund though...
COVID-19 & late delivery was the only reason I got the digital version.
@LordSteev I'm with LordSteev on this one. The comments here are ridiculous - "the games over" "scum" "turd of a game"....I'm waging that these are made by people who haven't bought / tried the game. If you had, you'd see what a great game it is, despite its issues ( of which there ARE obviously ). It's a truly adult, thought provoking game that deserves to be played rather than rounded on by people who just jump on the trending hate bandwagon. Yes the performance was awful on release, yes it's glitchy, yes it maybe shouldn't have released in that state but I'm playing on a base PS4 and it's faaarrr better after these 3 patches. Give it a chance guys, ya never know you might actually enjoy it !
@UltimateOtaku91 the 13 million sales factor in the refunds
Best game I played last year and will most likely be the best game I play this year too. Yes it's buggy, crashes a lot, doesn't look or perform as good as it should and had content cut back but despite that it's still a feckin' fantastic game, in my opinion.
@ApostateMage @KingPev
AMEN to the both of you! Happy Gaming! My patch just finished downloading, so I'll see everyone in a couple hours and give a report on my early findings. Night City forever!
@ObserverGamez Not exactly the same, though. Capcom actually shared gameplay videos running on PlayStation and released a demo on PlayStation 5 that plays perfectly well.
CDPR lied all the way until release date. They knew that it played as awful as it did, but still did not share any gameplay videos for people to make an informed decision.
@LordSteev The game is a utter mess and how they released it was a crime so dont tell me its jumping on a bandwagon if people say that.
@Flaming_Kaiser
It's jumping on the bandwagon when people say that.
Well, the reason is in the article
"An extremely high share of digital sales (80%) were on PC"
Where it is still 4th best selling game on Steam, has a positive rating after 320,000 reviews and still hitting 60K concurrent players a day.
80% of the people who made it the biggest digital launch ever are not judging it based on the console version they are not playing.
This is like saying why is anyone still playing Witcher 3 on PC based on the fact the Switch version is garbage.
@Agramonte I've talked to people who say the PC version is kind of a glitchy mess too. Surprisingly so. I don't think it's gamebreaking there, but even PC sounds like you may as well wait from some of the thing I've heard.
Gaming has to be perfect, 100% of the time. In no universe is any company allowed to foul, misstep, or release buggy games (and then fix them, per usual.)
Itโs amazing to me to think of the number of people who do not have the slightest amount of free time to play a video game, yet we who have time to waste also have time to complain about our games, which waste our time.
Just enjoy the games, ignore the ones you arenโt into, some of you are acting like the release of CP2077 was a personal affront.
NINJA DODGE ALL USELESS COMMENTARY
@BloodNinja A misstep you mean blatent lies and telling the reviewers not too use their own footage and still claim they didnt know how bad it was?
Some people dont have a lot of time indeed so they rather have a game that does not crash several times and is a buggy mess. Yeah i know such privileged people wanting a game that runs good.
@Flaming_Kaiser Im not interested in talking about conspiracy theories in gaming that cannot be proven.
NINJA DODGE
@RenanKJ no I know man lol. I was complimenting RE. I'm saying the preorder itch is still strong even after CDPR played us.
