Having played God of War again following its PS5 update, we've started thinking about other defining PS4 titles that could do with another turn in the spotlight. Obviously games like Ghost of Tsushima and Days Gone are already members of this exclusive club β both titles looking and playing better than ever on Sony's new system thanks to free upgrades. But what else needs some work?
As always, we'd like to know what you think. Which first-party PS4 game would you most like to see running on PS5 with a higher frame-rate and enhanced resolution? Vote in our polls, and then gives us your reasoning in the comments section below.

My perspective is if Sony arenβt willing to support ps5 then who will. First party from 2020 at least should have had native releases by now.
There are no wrong answers here. But some answers are more right than others.
Cough cough Bloodborne cough cough
All of them would be nice, but if you're going to make me choose, I have to go with Bloodborne.
Life of Black Tiger ππ
I want to play Days Gone and replay GoW at some point but somehow I haven't played a single PS4 game on my PS5 yet
Voted for Shadow of the Colossus because it is one of my all time favorites, but the correct answer is definitely Bloodborne.
Has to be Bloodborne. An update similar to God of War would make that game incredible. I started playing GOW again last night and the difference is huge. It's strange that a last gen game is the most next gen game out if you know what I mean. I can see why Sony went for the controller stuff now as I'm not sure any graphical improvements are going to be noticeable going forwards.
G-Police all the way.
I'm surprised we haven't got an updated FFVIIR yet since the game has problems with textures loading in some places - and we've known for ages that far higher quality textures are on-disc than are ever used in the game. They'll probably do it when the game goes multiplat.
The best game I've ever played: Bloodborne
GT sport has a 2k performance mode any way. That's good enough for me.
No Knack option?
All of them.
Well that's wot I fink.
@Matroska Yeah I think some kind of 'definitive edition' of FFVIIR is inevitable. Hopefully it's still a free upgrade for those who own the base release!
@DrClayman Shameful that we forgot about Knack.
You can still click 'other' and vote for it manually if you want!
Bloodborne at 4K/60fps. I'll even take a PC port like Horizon
It really sucks that Bloodborne hasn't gotten this treatment yet given the amazing work that's seemingly been done with games like Ghost of Tsushima and God of War
@ShogunRok Isn't Bloodborne second-party?
(I still voted Bloodborne)
Guess I'll have to play Days Gone on PS5. Didn't know there was a patch. But with gyro aiming, I'll definitely give it another try soon.
even though i don't like racing games, i'd probably pick drive club from the list for a 60fps framerate boost. even for a title released early in PS4, it's always looked fairly impressive to me. i'm sure last of us 2 would be fairly slick at 60fps but having played through it twice for platinum, I've no desire to ever play the campaign again.. i'll wait to see how the alleged multiplayer mode turns out.
@themightyant Co-developed by Japan Studio, so we let it slide!
@themightyant ''second-party'' doesn't exist, and is a term made up by fans. Something is either first party or third party. Anything published by Sony is first party.
@Voltan play days gone! so underrated
@ShogunRok Wasn't DriveClub discontinued?
I voted for HZD, but after thinking about it, MGSV needs an update. The load times are still very long.
Not a first party game, but would still like to see it.
@ShogunRok We will happily let it slide
I don't have a PS5 yet nor have I tried one, so just curious, are the PS5 versions that much better?
@Octane That way of looking at it doesnt work, though. Demon's Souls was published by Sony in Japan so is first party? Even though it's made by the same people that made Bloodborne? Yet Demon's Souls wasn't published by Sony in NA or EU so it both is and isn't first party? Pokemon is published by Nintendo in EU and NA but isn't published by them in Japan - so it's a third party game, like CoD is on PS5? The publisher-led way of looking at it makes no sense as it changes both by country and also over time.
Bloodbourne, HZD. Surely have to be upgraded for PS5. Bloodbourne running at smooth 60fps is the dream. HZD native 4K will look stunning with improved load times.
@Octane Technically, but we thought it would be nice to see it running on a PS5 all the same.
@Octane Afraid that's not 100% true. First, second, third party are all terms used outside of gaming too in commerce, in data and have been in widespread use in games for decades, and are understood by everyone even if is started that way.
It's also very useful as there is often a difference between first and second party in monetary remuneration and IP control.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_developer
@ShogunRok Tempting lol My sanity prevailed and I voted for Bloodborne instead.
@themightyant ''Second-party developer is a colloquial term often used by gaming enthusiasts and media...'' kinda proves it. Sony definitely doesn't call Bloodborne a ''second party game''.
In business first party and ''second party'' refer to the producer/service provider and the end user/customer. That's Sony and us in this case. Third party is any external company involved in whatever contract exists between the original two.
Ask anyone to define second party and you get varying answers. There's not even a clear consensus on what it is supposed to mean.
@Matroska Sony owns the Demon's Souls IP.
But yes, there are exceptions, always. Companies outsource other companies for marketing and distribution, that happens.
Horizon Zero Dawn of course, no interest in Bloodborne.
HZD is a gorgeous game to begin with but an updated version on PS5 would be even more stunning.
@Enuo You complete me
@themightyant 2nd party isn't an actual term used in real life practice, it's just a description to describe the relationship between devs/pubs etc... Sony owns the IP, along with Demons Souls. They can put devs to work on it with or without From, like how MS did with Halo franchise. BB/DeS are both first party IP, but I'm sure Sony wants to keep working closely with From.
Breath of the Wild definitely needs a PS5 upgrade. I'm sure it would sell well.
@Omnistalgic @Octane I get that it isn't an official term but it is used, and has been for decades, to differentiate between those owned by the platform holders and those who are just contracted for certain games.
Regardless it's not a hill I want to die on, it's Friday night i'm signing off to play some games. Peace and enjoy.
@themightyant Kind of. I believe Sony actually owns the IP like they do Demon's Souls and Japan Studio did collaborate with FromSoftware on the development of the game so it is distinctly a Sony game unlike most of the other Souls entries. It's not like a Death Stranding or Spider-Man situation where Sony just has publishing rights while some other company has control over the IP itself. It was co-developed by a Sony owned first party team which is why it can be perceived as a lot closer to a first party game rather than a second party one like Nioh or Spider-Man
Detroit become human
@themightyant no disagreement, my main point was Sony owns these IP, I believe Bloodborne and Demons Souls. They have a contract with Spider-man and I'm not sure what Nioh is lol. Nioh might be the best real case example of "2nd party"
Sony owns Death Stranding as well doesn't it @Thefrenchiestfry?
Horizon (and I cannot stress this enough) Zero Dawn.
Bloodborne can certainly use an upgrade as well but going back to HZD after playing other titles at 60fps I canβt quite look back. The difference is astonishing.
@NYJetsfan123 the difference is that the updated games now run at double the framerate without sacrificing any of the visuals (or even improving on them), which makes them absolutely the best way to play these games.
In case of God of War you could have either 30 fps at 4K or target 60 fps at 1080p. Now you get both and it's more stable too - sharp and smooth.
If I hadnβt already platinumed Bloodborne wouldnβt have voted for Last of Us 2
I found HZD pretty boring so Bloodborne would be the obvious choice for me. If it wasn't limited to 1st party then it would be Monster Hunter World.
@Octane It's not so much that there are exceptions but that games are reguarly published by different companies in different regions (e.g. Persona, Yakuza, Pokemon, Dragon Quest, Crash Bandicoot, Resident Evil). Your way of looking at it also means that the original FFVII, Death Stranding and Detroit: Become Human are all first party Sony games despite not being made by Sony, being released on various platforms, and being published by at least two different publishers based on region/platform/time. However, it's abundantly clear that they're all third party titles and it would be odd to use those games as examples of Sony's first party output. There's a clear difference between The Last of Us and FFVII (and I don't mean genre or tone) when we talk about Sony's first party output.
Besides, surely it's much more relevant who actually created them than who happened to publish them in a certain region (especially when that varies over time and platform)? It's like talking about music in terms of record labels rather than in terms of bands or artists. Oh yes, my favourite song is 'A Day in the Life' by Parlophone Records (though it was Capital Records in the US, seems the same issues rear their head with music too).
Wow, that Bloodborne is so popular. I hadn't expect that (I don't mean that offensive or to troll). It's not my type of game (I think). I don't like the Victorian style and I believe it is very difficult? I just more expected it to be a niece market of gamers, but the amount is actually quite profound.
I am very glad with the God of War upgrade and I am hoping for HZD, Uncharted 4 & LL, Shadow of the Colossus and the Last Guardian.
Concrete genie since it was free and a great time for people to jump in and try but I think Death Stranding could use a PS5 update using the new controller and having better load times and graphics
Horizon zd, bloodborne, uncharted 4, and death stranding. I want astro playroom like dualsense support for death stranding
I was of the minority who voted for The Last Guardian. I did so simply because it's one of those titles that is already enhanced when running the unpatched versions from the disc, so it should be minimal work to update it.
Death Stranding is a similar situation since the game can achieve 60fps on even weak PCs.
Otherwise, the Uncharteds really deserve a patch to allow 60fps, bringing parity with the ND Collection. Especially because we know the game can support it since it already does in multiplayer.
Shadows of The Colossus would be great at 4K/60 too. Of course Bloodborne is an obvious pick, but I'm not sure how realistic that is considering its age. While Horizon would also be welcome, but I'm pretty sure Guerilla has mentioned that the game was designed specifically for 30fps, but maybe that was before the PC version was planned.
Finally, TLoU 2 is another obvious pick, but I'm pretty confident that a native PS5 port is in the works, so I wouldn't waste my vote on a patch.
I think for many of these titles it could be a simple matter of unlocking the frame rate. Most already have enhanced resolution for PS4 Pro.
@leucocyte i'm pretty sure drive club plays in 60fps on the ps5..still 1080p though but its never going to get a proper update as sony shamefully dont support this classic game any more..idiots..
I'm sorry, but why Death Stranding is not an option? Top choice for me, just to experience it at 60 FPS
With the sequel due, I voted for Horizon as it would be great to have them both using PS5's power.
What I am not wanting to see is the last half of the generation appearing on PS5 and resold as "remasters, like with Nioh and Spider-Man. So many third party games are heading to PS5 via simple upgrades. Don't try to sell me an upgrade for Β£30 or more...
I would almost be surprised if we don't get a full PS5 "Ultimate" edition port of Horizon ZD, possibly as a bundle with Forbidden West like they did with Marvel's Miles Morales and the OG Spidey-Man.
They already did the work of creating upgraded assets for the PC port, this would also explain why H:ZD wasn't part of the PS Plus Collection.
Sony if you are listening I will pay for an upgraded port of Zero Dawn.
Death Stranding.
Hi there fellow gamers.
The answer is Bloodborne.
That is all.
But.... Games like The Last of Us part 2, The Last Guardian, Horizon Zero Dawn and Death Stranding should also have a proper PS5 patch, with Dualsense implementation as well.
Cheers, stay safe and happy gaming to us all
Awww! No Ratchet & Clank PS4 in the poll specifically. Guess I'll click other.
That game would look great in 4K/60fps! You know Insomniac would deal with the upgrade patch brilliantly!
Also would love for HZD to get the 60fps treatment
Skyline Freerange
Iβve already put a zillion hours into Bloodborne, and with a PS5 update Iβll put in a zillion more. DO IT!
It is ridiculous that The Last Guardian hasn't been patched. No real work is needed there, disc players are enjoying 60fps.
I know Death Stranding is technically a second party game published by Sony but so is Until Dawn and that's on the list, so I think DS should be included. The Last of Us 2 and Death Stranding are my picks.
@Matroska Let's put it this way; the company that own the IP.
Come on Life of Black Tiger 4k 60 update!
Just downloaded GoW - last time I played it was on a base PS4 and a non-HDR screen and hooooooly *****
Horizon Zero Dawn hands down.
Bloodborne 100%. This game deserves a full remaster for the PS5!
As someone who doesn't even have a PS5 yet, how about letting them focus on new PS5 titles, rather than wasting time updating old games which already work perfectly well?
If Spiderman can get a remaster then there's no excuse for Bloodborne not getting one, give us 60fps and 4k HDR.
@Arugula
Yeah, see, I would never replay a game for that reason. I rarely replay games anyway haha. The faster load times do sound awesome though. That's probably the biggest appeal to me right now for the PS5. But still not enough to not wait for a price drop. Plus, there's hardly any exclusives for it at the moment. All the games I'm interested in are also coming to PS4. Why bother right now?
@Arugula
Man, you got a nice wife! My wife bought me a sleeping bag rated for 0Β°. Presumably so she makes sure I don't freeze to death when she throws me out haha
I would love to see Driveclub get the update it deserves. 4k 60fps would be the icing on an already beautiful cake π
@Octane Sadly it's delisted now. I never understood why, the game is still one of my favourites. Add Driveclub bikes to that, why Sony why π¬
@Mpquikster So many last gen titles already look amazing. It's like being on PC, I used to go back and play older games when I got a new graphics card, switch on all the bells and whistles and enjoy super smooth gameplay π
I'm really thrilled to see the tremendous love here for Gravity Rush 2! I didn't really expect to see that. I was going to vote for HzD, which I really do want to see updated very much, but was amazed to see gr2 in the list. As one of my favorite Sony series and favorite overall series of all time, and due to the fact that's actually what I'm using my ps5 to play right now, i couldn't not pick that. It's an amazing game, but the framerate and washed out color palette leave a lot to be desired.
But i was floored to see the results only to see it's the #3 pick of the poll, ahead of HzD no less!
The Sony customer base overall has some terrible taste in games, but at least the crowd here knows what's good.
Finally, Bloodborne overtook TLOU 2!
Sony, i hope you're watching this and take the much needed ACTION!
For all the games in this poll, for that matter
@Old-Red
I updated but haven't played GoW on PS5 yet. I still have some raven collectables and a few more chests in Niflheim to earn with Mist Echoes. Not to mention new game plus.
Did they add any controller rumble updates for the leviathan axe?
All of them! I definitely want TLOU Part II to get a PS5 upgrade next, so I can finally experience it.
How on earth did Gravity Rush 2 win this poll? I'm sorry, but there is no way it is that popular
