Sony signed console exclusivity contracts with Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo prior to Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda, which puts both titles in a strange predicament. However, Xbox has said that it will honour those deals, so the titles will still release on the PlayStation 5 and PC as planned, and according to the former’s developer Arkane Studios it’s business as usual behind-the-scenes.
“The acquisition hasn’t affected day-to-day development of Deathloop, which we’re developing exclusively for PS5 on console and also PC,” a statement, published in the latest issue of Game Informer magazine, reveals. No changes, then, as you’d expect. Of course, the future of Bethesda titles is much muggier; Xbox boss Phil Spencer admitted that “some” future titles will skip PS5 and PS4 yesterday.

Considering these exclusitivity deals for Ghostwire and Deathloop were signed with Sony at least a year prior to Microsofts buyout of Bethesda if not even longer than that, then from a strictly legal standpoint Microsoft and Bethesda can't alter what was already agreed upon. That PS5 exclusivity deal will of course be honored for however long it lasts, which is likely at least a year after both games releases.
Deathloop is a PlayStation exclusive for one year coming to other consoles May 21, 2022 or some where in there i'll wait to play Deathloop when in drops on Gamepass in a year
Will be more interesting to see if this comes to PC gamepass day one.
I'm more interested on ghostwire tokyo than this.
@Playstation Not a separate entity. Zenimax is a subsidiary of Xbox Game Studios. No different than 343i or Mojang now.
Such leadership changes have little impact on front line workers so I agree it wouldn't make much sense in delays.
They have no choice but to honour them otherwise they’d get sued to the moon by Sony...
I think the biggest shame is that some Bethesda games would be awesome with full dualsense implementation. That that’s less likely even if they come because that would put a notable reason to get the PS5 Bergson over Xbox and PC. I just hope Doom gets it still.
Glad to see this progressing as normal.
Well since I just SCORED A PS5 FROM SONY DIRECT THIS AFTERNOOON - WOOHOOO!!!!!!! OH YEAH!!! WOOHOOO!!!!
**ahem**
I can enjoy this game when it comes out.
@wiiware Don't worry, that's in a similar situation as Deathloop. But I'll personally wait a year to play these titles on Game Pass.
@Jaz007 eh, I really wouldn't worry about it too much. if PS5 is where ppl want to play, MS will let these devs support the most popular platform. Obviously, MS will fund some exclusives, but I really don't think they will take away games that are used to being on everything. Gamepass day one and marketing rights will suffice for most of these deals. Just look how quickly MS changed the Xbox live price back. If people complain, they will react, they do seem to be about pleasing the consumer, even if there are long-term goals of market domination. Right now though, Xbox just seems to want subs, and they are succeeding without directly competing with Sony/Nintendo's strategy for now, which fully rely on hardware sold. MS is hardware too, but such a different perspective when you factor in PC.
@HotGoomba I have gamepass pc from the $1 promo, but I think it will expired before ghostwire released on gamepass, it's nice but I don't think I'll continue paying the subs when it end. When playing pc games, I spend most of my times playing on steam rather than on gamepass lol.
If Microsoft was smart they'd make more of these deals and pretend that was already the plan, stand to make a lot more money from Full retail sales of the big titles on Playstation then they do having them on Gamepass
I'll probably play this game but I'm not excited for it. I'm like Assassin's Creed level interested in this game.
@TrueAssassin86x you can bet it still will be on PC GamePass day one.
@Playstation minectaft won't go exclusive because it was already out.
Be ready to believe it, though, when either Wolfenstein 3, Starfield or Elder Scrolls 6 is anounced. I think it takes just one of those being anounced as XBox|PC exclusive to know that is the direction for all future games.
Well, we finally know with no ambiguity: this acquisition is about exclusive content for XBox.
Contracts on current Bethesda games will be honored and released games will continue to be supported.
@Tharsman minecraft makes so much money it would be stupid of them not to put it on playstation , they pretty much run minecraft independent from Microsoft even though they own it.
Twitchtvpat, yea. Same goes for everything else. They will be stupid to make any of it Xbox console exclusive. 🙄
