After a prolonged period of absence – and some concerns raised about its working environment – Techland will divulge new details about Dying Light 2’s “development process” as part of a stream next week. The update – announced on the game’s social media page – seems like it’ll focus more on internal matters than the game itself, although we should get a decent progress report.
Obviously, it’s been quite a while since we last saw the title in action, and many have questioned what’s going on behind-the-scenes. However, a representative replied to the concerns of one fan, stressing that the title is “far from being in development hell” and was simply announced “too early”. It added: “Dying Light 2 keeps moving forward.”
The game was announced all the way back in 2018, and was scheduled to release in 2020. Frankly, it still feels like it’s years off, but maybe next week’s update will shed some light on when we can expect the undead sequel to deploy. Are you still looking forward to this title, or has your interest creaked over the years? Stay inside at night in the comments section below.

Fair enough. A rushed game is forever bad and all that
@Arugula There lies the issue, gamers today don't want to hear that development is going smoothly. They want the game made and released now, they have no patience whatsoever and have this weird belief that they are the ones making the game. I personally don't care when a game gets announced, don't care about updates on the development, don't care what the release dates are. I will play it when it comes out.
Glad to hear news about this game. Too much initial hype, and too long without hearing anything after that. Maybe not development hell, but at least a little development purgatory in there somewhere.
Just the fact that we're going to see anything at all on this game is the best news of 2021 so far.
To ease their burden I hope they drop last gen support and focus on the new systems and PC.
Take your time techland.when its ready i will be there.word up son
I’d like to see the first game up scaled and released for PS5. I’ve never played any of the dlc but would purchase again if they had a complete bundle with an upgrade available
You can’t announce a game and expect people not to be excited or grow impatient when years later the game still hasn’t been released (Ahem, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga...). Hopefully a lesson has been learned (industry-wide) and we should see less of this going forward. At least Techland are acknowledging their mistake in showing this too soon.
@Boucho11
Exactly that mate. I really enjoyed the first game but had moved on and didn’t play the dlc.
If they updated it and gave it PS5 support I’d jump back in.
My buddy really loved the first one but I never ended up playing it. Looked fun though so I’d be interested in trying a next gen version of it
Dying Light 2, do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
I think they announced the game and then showed an extended gameplay trailer in 2019. Release date 2020. Given it's 2021 with not so much update until now of course. "Rumours" of development hell were going to be "made up" or maybe they are somewhat true. Added to the fact people will cry downgrade when things are changed from the 2019 trailer and given the game is a few years out, I can't help but feel they fueled this fire just a bit. Not excusing the absolute nut cases that treat a game release like life or death tho. Hope all turns out well and a great game is released tho.
This game will be bad how ever long it takes.
Loved the first game and looking forward to this one. I’d rather them take their time and make a decent completed game rather than rushing it and releasing a broken game cough cyberpunk cough
Let's say this isn't ready for a year or two maybe they should just focus on this gen for now then release later on for ps4, xbox one.
Dying light was one of those games that took me multiple tries to get into, but once you grasp with the gameplay and the mechanics it is super fun. It is even more fun to play with friend/s co-op. I still have to play the following dlc, but don't see it in my backlog atm.
Yes. Stop doing that. I get that you want to get the hype train started but do it at most a year out. Bethesda announced the next Elder Scrolls and that probably won't be until the gen after this one.
yeah the game is not in development hell, I'm pretty sure it is... they can take all the time they want, I just don't want this one to turn to dust!
@Saucymonk
Why do you think so? The first one is really well made, and one of the better looking games from 2015.
@Bamila
The following is awesome. It almost feels like Dying Light 1½. New story, brand new and quite substantial map, and a vehicle with decent handling.
I got kind of tired of Dying Light since it devolved into rote map game shenanigans, but the core gameplay was solid. With that, I'm not sure I care much. Back 4 Blood will probably by my only zombie fix for the foreseeable future.
There are such an incredible amount of games coming out nowadays that I completely forgot about this one. I'm perfectly happy to wait till it's ready.
The first was one of the best games of the last gen for me. I absolutely loved it, and only bought it as I randomly downloaded the demo on a whim. More games need demos for this reason as i'm sure many people are missing out on great games because they can't experience it to know! (it works both ways, if the game/demo is rubbish then people won't buy it)
@BrettAwesome Trolling probably.
